Poppy focuses on making plays over farming early levels, giving her an advantage in striking first. Her W ability can be quite irritating, so consider it in your pathing and during fights. Opt for Eclipse in your build and avoid overcommitting against her. Watch out for walls, as she'll aim to stun you against them. Coordinate your movements with hers to avoid being caught off guard.
Wukong
Wukong R is very hard to work around as Rengar. Don't fight him on his Divine Sunderer powerspike as that's his strongest point in the game (typically uses that to snowball into BC purchase.. then he becomes thanos), but you can beat him after your 3-4 item spike for sure. Tread lightly in extended trades as his passive gives him tons of armor/stacked conq that you can forget about in the moment. Bola(E) reveal can be pretty annoying for Wukong though, this matchup is more of a can-you-play-rengar-intelligently check than a difficult skill matchup.
Graves
Graves isn't too challenging in the early game (BUT WATCH OUT FOR HIS INVADES, AND MAKE SURE TO WARD YOUR OPPOSITE BUFF OR STARTING BUFF ENTRANCE). However, he can capitalize heavily on any early mistakes, thanks to his ability to build damage items while still being tanky with the grit passive of his E. He can also disrupt jumps with his powerful basic ability, smokescreen, especially in bushes. Invading him is risky, as he can stack grit while clearing, potentially leading to fights where he's unexpectedly tanky. Look for counter ganks and opportunities to catch him off guard. Prioritize getting ahead through lanes and consider building Last Whisper as your third item. Dealing with a Graves who stacks Death's Dance and Frozen Heart can be tough, so try to avoid situations where he's heavily stacked with these items.
Fiddlesticks
Similar to Karthus, Fiddlesticks poses a significant mid-late game teamfight threat. When invading, make sure to bring your team along (as he can sustain through 1v1s with his draining abilities). Avoid solo-invading unless he's low on health or after a skirmish. Counter ganking early can also help delay his power spike. Keep your CS comparable to his to estimate when he'll hit level 6 (typically around 44-48 CS). When he goes missing at level 5, anticipate his ultimate ganks on your laners. Fiddlesticks has many angles to approach from, so be vigilant in pinging safety for your team. The longer he's missing before using his ultimate, the more dangerous his presence becomes. Be cautious of engaging too deeply into the enemy team, as it can provide Fiddlesticks with ideal ult angles. Always be mindful of his intentions. Lastly, avoid attempting or completing Baron or Dragon without vision behind the walls.
Olaf
Olaf can chase you relentlessly with the slowing effect of his Q, and his lifesteal can quickly turn fights in his favor. Exercise extreme caution when engaging with this champion. Prior to initiating, thoroughly inspect his items, as he might be more vulnerable than he appears. Consider utilizing Lethal Tempo and possibly Ignite to maximize your chances of defeating him.
Kindred
You have a significant advantage against Kindred early on, but she scales well into the mid-late game, posing a threat to your objectives. If Kindred understands how your R mark functions when you ult, she can effectively stick to your priority targets, acting as a Tryndamere ult for her entire team. Moreover, she can opt for defensive items after her core mythic and still maintain respectable damage output thanks to her scaling passive, while you need to continue building damage to stay relevant. Keep in mind that her R has a 3-minute cooldown at rank 1, so exploit this window of vulnerability. Familiarize yourself with her R cooldown reduction based on level, as she typically doesn't build ability haste, resulting in a consistently long cooldown. Be cautious of potential invades from Kindred, and if you ward defensively, your team can collapse on her for an advantageous skirmish. Establishing an early lead against Kindred can significantly increase your chances of success, provided you don't squander it later on.
Skarner
Pretty herpes matchup, self explanatory.
Rammus
Conqueror suggested. You can't kill him or outrun, only way to win vs a Rammus is to avoid fighting him and outmacro him.
+ A bit of prayer hoping he doesn't get a lead on you :)
Karthus
If Karthus opts for Exhaust, this matchup can become quite challenging. While Karthus can focus on farming to become a late-game powerhouse, you'll need to stay proactive on the map. Any missteps on your part will only allow him to further pull ahead in levels. If you have lane priority, coordinate invades with your team. Otherwise, prioritize securing early objectives to keep pace with Karthus's scaling potential. Exercise caution when invading, as a well-cleared jungle can mean Karthus is already onto his next game. Communicate with your team for a strong leash to execute invades effectively.
Taliyah
Taliyah's early game advantage from her passive allows her to strike first while maintaining strong clear speed. However, engaging her directly can result in taking significant damage and possibly being one-shotted by her combo. Prevent her from dominating the map too early by staying proactive. Avoid full clears and focus on anticipating her early ganks for counter opportunities. Coordinate with your team for a level 1 ward to track her movements and refrain from engaging directly, as her rock throws can now stun and interrupt your jumps, leaving you vulnerable to her combo.
Nunu & Willump
Similar to Taliyah, Nunu's primary goal is to gank early. He can initiate his snowball off vision, making it difficult to evade once spotted. Anticipate his likely gank paths and aim to counter gank after reaching level 3. Avoid attempting to counter his level 2 ganks, as they may or may not occur, and premature action could set you back significantly. Utilize pings to communicate with your team, prioritize early warding, and other preventative measures to thwart his plays. Since Nunu players often opt for Phase Rush, focus on rooting him when fighting near bushes, or go for a combo for damage if bushes are unavailable. Lethal Tempo can be effective against Nunu, as it allows you to sustain through his tankiness with your W and retaliate effectively, especially after acquiring Last Whisper.
Zac
Zac boasts significant innate crowd control and healing abilities. Avoiding his Elastic Slingshot (E) + Stretching Strike (Q) combo is crucial, and obtaining healing reduction is advisable if your team lacks an enchanter who can build Chemtech Putrifier. His healing capabilities may surprise you, so be prepared for it. Remember to smite his bloblets during fights if you forget to use it initially, as they're tougher to take down than you might expect. While he's vulnerable in the early game, if he gains an early advantage, he can become one of the most frustrating champions to deal with.
Trundle
Trundle tends to win 1v1 engagements unless you're significantly ahead. His ability to steal AD with his R + Q combo can catch you off guard, even if you have an item advantage. Approach with caution. Trundle players often look to invade, so prioritizing an early ward with your team can be beneficial. A well-executed counter gank in the early game can set him back significantly. However, be mindful of his Pillar of Ice ability, as it can disrupt your jumps.
Rek'Sai
Dealing with Rek'Sai can be frustrating due to her ability to gank very early from unexpected angles. Prioritize purchasing Steelcaps and Edge of Night to consistently win 1v1 encounters against her. Be mindful of her Tremor Sense, as she can track your movements during your ultimate, potentially leading to a canceled jump with Unburrow. She typically builds Edge of Night (which blocks your E, dealing significant pre-mitigation damage later), and later opts for Death's Dance or Guardian Angel, so incorporating %armor shred into your build is essential. In 1v1 situations, you generally have the advantage if you're at similar health and have Conqueror or Lethal Tempo. However, 2v2 or 3v3 fights can be challenging if you're the one absorbing the initial engage, as you may need to use W > Empowered W to disengage if you survive the combo, rather than being able to retaliate immediately. A useful trick is to note that her ultimate places her in front of you, allowing you to turn around and flash in that direction to create distance.
Diana
Like Karthus and Fiddlesticks, Diana poses a significant threat as she focuses on farming and excels in teamfights. It's crucial to secure victories in fights against her early on to establish a lead for the rest of the game. However, even if you gain an early advantage, be aware that she can purchase Zhonya's Hourglass and remain a threat later on, so remain vigilant throughout the matchup. Avoid using your W recklessly for empowered Q and instead, anticipate her QWE combo, which can occur rapidly if not followed by her ultimate (preferably). Keep track of her item power spikes on the scoreboard and be prepared to mitigate her ultimate burst damage with your W to turn the tide of fights.
Udyr
This champion favors Frozen Heart and can become extremely tanky due to his high base stats. Prioritize purchasing Eclipse and aim to immobilize him after acquiring Magic Resist or Lord Dominik's Regards, unless you're in the jungle and can pursue him effectively. However, be cautious when chasing him too aggressively, as he may be leading you into his team. Avoid excessive greed and focus on eliminating his teammates over Udyr himself. Exercise caution during invades and refrain from underestimating his movement speed.
Bel'Veth
Her Q packs a significant punch, so it's crucial to understand its mechanics and position yourself where she can't freely land it. Dodging her W is key to winning early trades, and refrain from over-committing initially as it grants her a free angle for her E (which comes with damage reduction). If possible, avoid engaging her solo during her ult unless you're exceptionally fed. While there is clear counterplay against her, making too many mistakes can make it nearly impossible to win in a 1v1 situation.
Talon
This champion becomes a significant threat only when he takes Ignite. Many Talon players opt for Ignite due to his built-in mobility with his parkour E, which prevents you from healing his damage. However, if he doesn't have Ignite, the matchup in a 1v1 scenario is quite favorable, as you can outheal his damage, reveal him in your R, and interrupt his E mid-air with a well-timed root. Be cautious of his burst potential with his passive, as it scales effectively with his power spikes and can deal significant damage on its own in the mid to late game.
Zilean
Zilean's ultimate (R) poses a significant challenge, essentially granting him a built-in Guardian Angel on a short cooldown during the mid-game. Even if you attempt to engage by rooting and then retreating, he can still catch you with his potent 90% slows and aim for a stun with his double Q. The combination of Guardian Angel and Zilean's ultimate can disrupt your combo, which could have been used to finish off a target. Time manipulation is central to Zilean's kit, allowing him to buy precious moments in teamfights. To counter this, consider entering the teamfight later and approaching from unexpected angles to catch Zilean off guard. This may force him to either prematurely ult himself or his ally, providing an opportunity to switch targets and eliminate him. Prioritize landing a root on Zilean unless you're confident in your ability to burst him down, as his E ability has a short cooldown, enabling him to slow you for a stun and escape.
Lissandra
This champion's ultimate ability is quite troublesome, offering point-and-click lockdown alongside substantial damage, and it can function as both a Zhonya's Hourglass and a heal if necessary. Additionally, she possesses an instant root that synergizes well with Aftershock, and her E ability can make ganking difficult. When attempting to gank, if she extends far enough forward, hold your root for when she teleports with her E; otherwise, use it immediately to force her to use her E earlier than intended. Furthermore, you can position your E in the direction of her E, ensuring it hits her regardless of her movement.
Hecarim
Conqueror suggested. Hecarim is a rough matchup aswell, just because he can chase you down and stick to you, which doesn't let you repeatedly leap to him and get extra fero + dmg. Once you leap on Hecarim, he can just E you, and W which slows you, and just chase you with Q, he can also just R and fear you and chase you down with it if he wants to.
Tough matchup aswell.
Nidalee
Amumu
Conqueror suggested.
Evelynn
Electrocute suggested. You counter her invisibility with R. Building more CDR vs Eve is good, giving less CD on R. (Ultimate hunter recommended for more R activation).
Ivern
Electrocute recommended. Counter to Rengar if he doesn't use bushes in a teamfight.
Dr. Mundo
Conqueror recommended. Killable, still annoying.
Kha'Zix
This matchup isn't about complete dominance; it's a matter of securing a gold lead first. Both champions have the potential to come out on top. The key is to be the one who jumps on the other from a bush first. It's a skill matchup. Landing your E is crucial, as the reveal counters his R, which is advantageous. Be cautious if he evolves his W, as it can allow him to kite and slow you. If he builds armor and evolves his Q, he can easily out-sustain and win 1v1s unless you're already ahead. A well-timed counter gank against Kha'Zix early on can tilt the matchup in your favor, but remain vigilant throughout the game.
Kayn
Conqueror recommended.
Vi
Conqueror and Electrocute both viable into this pick.
Shen
Conqueror recommended.
Shaco
Electrocute recommended.
Take ignite into this matchup for the truesight granted by ignite.
Volibear
Conqueror recommended.
Warwick
Conqueror recommended.
Xin Zhao
Prioritize purchasing armor early and focus on healing when Xin Zhao uses his W. It's crucial not to let him get too far ahead in the early game, as this can quickly spiral out of control. Xin Zhao is relatively manageable if he doesn't snowball early, so he'll likely attempt early ganks to gain an advantage. Use this predictability to your advantage and be prepared to counter his ganks. Capitalize on objective opportunities when they arise, as Xin Zhao requires every advantage he can get to become a menace. By limiting his opportunities, you can mitigate his impact on the game.
Lee Sin
Prioritize purchasing Steelcaps early to counter the armor Lee Sin will likely stack. Ensure you utilize your W for healing effectively, and beyond that, success against Lee Sin comes down to being a skilled jungler (securing objectives, ganking efficiently, counterganking, etc.). If you can consistently dodge his Qs, particularly after acquiring some armor and securing early kills, you'll be in a good position. Exercise caution when facing his ultimate, as he can execute his entire combo within the kick's crowd control, potentially catching you off guard with a reverse one-shot.
Nocturne
Be mindful of holding your empowered W for Nocturne's fear. He gains bonus AD while standing in his Q created by his shadow, so dodging it can provide a significant advantage. Avoid using your E directly into him, as breaking his spell shield grants him attack speed. While a fed Nocturne won't necessarily shut you down hard, he can pressure you to play defensively and make decisions quickly due to the limited vision during his ult. Some useful tactics to consider are using empowered W to negate his global blind over the map or leveraging Edge of Night's spell shield to nullify its effects.
Gragas
While you have the advantage in farming, be cautious of Gragas's E ability, which can cancel your jump and create frustrating situations. Similar to Poppy's W, Gragas can disrupt your engages if you're not careful. Early invades can significantly hinder Gragas's ability to impact the game, so prioritize them if you have lane priority or a stronger early game 2v2/3v3 setup. Additionally, landing Gragas's E ability reduces its cooldown by 3 seconds, meaning that after acquiring a couple of items, the cooldown will be reduced to around 4-5 seconds (or 3.5 seconds if he's heavily stacking ability haste). This can pose a significant challenge in longer teamfights, especially if Gragas is fed.
Zed
Dealing with Zed can be challenging, especially considering his ability to dodge your damage with his ultimate, which is quite potent. Ensure you prioritize armor and play for healing during fights to withstand his burst. Fortunately, Zeds in the jungle typically won't run Ignite, which alleviates some pressure. Given Zed's elusiveness, it might be more effective to play for a root if your team is nearby, preventing him from freely teleporting between shadows. Familiarize yourself with how his ultimate positioning works, as you can land some clever roots directly out of his R that he can't react to. Additionally, be mindful of the long range of his W, as he'll likely save the swap until you use your empowered E ability. Keep this ability on standby until he's forced to swap, allowing you to capitalize on his movement for a root and potential kill.
Ekko
Electrocute recommended. Easily killed and invaded.
Sylas
Electrocute recommended.
Master Yi
Electrocute recommended. Can also go Conqueror if you wish.
Lillia
Electrocute recommended.
Pantheon
Conqueror recommended. W his W+Q combo.
Ivern
Super great synergy. Ivern's kit is perfect with Rengar, his Q, allows Rengar to close the distance on his enemies and get that last auto / Q off to finish his enemy. Ivern's W, CREATES a bush. Rengar + Bush = Leap. Ivern = Bush maker = Rengar + Bush = Ivern Make bush for Rengar to Leap. Ivern's E, shields and then after a duration it will explode and then slow them for a very small amount which allows Rengar to stick onto his target. Overall great synergy and I recommend trying to duo with an Ivern if possible.
Yuumi
Really good, Yuumi gives you more AD passively. Yuumi's Q slows enemies which let's you stick to them as much as possible. Her W, once she attaches to you it will grant you movespeed, a good Yuumi player will detach and re attach to grant movespeed + aery shield. Yuumi's E, heals you and grants you movespeed which would proc aery shield. And finally Yuumi's R roots enemies caught within the stream which is great for Rengar so he has time to step up to a bush / walk up and kill his opponents.
Senna
Since Senna can camouflage Rengar, he gets a free leap onto enemies, she can also save you in some close call fights, has CC and heals
Thresh
Lanterns you anywhere you need so you can go in and he can get you out, or bring you into a fight.
Rakan
Good shielding with guardian, he can keep up with you, can go in with you super easily and not only that but he can use R and simply CC their entire team which helps you maneuver in teamfights.
Taric
I've funneled with a Taric player named Egypt with Rengar. Super disgusting. Taric can use E just before Rengar is about to leap, and then guarantee a stun on their opponents. The ultimate also helps a lot with assassin Rengar and allows him to get off as much damage as possible.
Bard
Super great roam potential since he has high movespeed and can help you with invades and get you out with portal, also catch people with R to set you up for nice kills.
Pantheon
Great pressure. All around a good kit to work with Rengar.
Leona
HUGE amount of CC to peel for Rengar. Great engage, basically unbeatable if you have a Leona with you in scrims.
Janna
Lot of pressure, similar to Alistar and Bard. High base movespeed, shields you before engage, extra AD etc.
Galio
Great with scrim, taunt is broken with Rengar, setups are super easy with Galio.
Orianna
Balls Rengar -> Rengar leaps -> She ults -> 1v9
Alistar
Great pressure. If they're like Alicopter, they just roam perma level 3+ with mobis and they just gank top/mid/help invade with you. Kinda disgusting.
Nautilus
Point and click CC with Auto. Also has a hook which you cant complain about. His R is also a multiple target knockup.
Pyke
Hook + CC + W Pressure.
Morgana
Blackshields you before you go in, you don't get CC'd in any way and you get out. Good for setting up ganks or w,e with her Q.
Zilean
Movespeed + gives you a guardian angel on crack
Soraka

Hey everyone, I'm Ejsner. I'm 20 years old and I'm arguably one of the best Rengar players in the world. Throughout Seasons 12 to 14, I maintained a solid 75% winrate with Rengar in Challenger. I've got a deep understanding of his kit and mechanics, and I'm here to pass on some of that knowledge to you.
Feel free to join my Discord; https://discord.gg/ArCJkJMfQz for any questions about builds or anything about Rengar in general! I offer coaching through Discord with plenty of options to suit your needs and schedule. Catch me live on Kick at https://kick.com/ejsner for some educational streams!
I'm often asked this question, but let me be clear: this guide isn't about convincing you to play Rengar. It's for those who've already chosen him, feel he suits their style, and are eager to enjoy playing him. Below, I'll highlight why Rengar is such a fantastic choice.
* Great for scrims (1v1s - 2v2) * Great healing from W * Smooth kit, very nice once mastered * Super strong when snowballed * Satisfying oneshots
Rengar stands out as one of the most potent OTP jungle champions once you've mastered him. However, mastering him requires consistent gameplay and dedication to honing your skills.
In my opinion, the most consistent rune on Rengar this season is Conqueror.
When it comes to Rengar's runes, there's been a lot of debate over which one reigns supreme. Drawing from insights within the Rengar mains community, I'll lay out all the options and share my take on the most effective choices for this season.
Electrocute is ideal for facing squishy team comps or champions with stealth and high mobility. Electrocute will also boost your one-shot potential against these foes.
Hail of Blades shines when you're up against champions with limited escape options or when you're confident you can stick to your target easily. It offers significant dueling power, making you formidable from early to late game.
Conqueror is a standout choice for Rengar, Conqueror stacks quickly and provides substantial AD, turning you into a formidable duelist. It's particularly effective against tanky opponents or in prolonged fights. Personally, I find Conqueror viable against any team composition and highly recommend it for every game due to its versatility and potency.
Favorite Runes
I absolutely advocate for a specific rune setup: Conqueror as your primary choice, paired with Triumph, Legend: Alacrity, and Coup de Grace (or Cut Down against healthier champs). For your secondary runes, opt for Sudden Impact and Ultimate Hunter for maximum effectiveness. These runes synergize perfectly with Rengar's playstyle, enhancing his dueling power and snowball potential.
This clear provides the most XP and gold, and if done correctly, Rengar can complete it quickly and efficiently.
