TFT - Top 3 Team Comps (Patch 14.9)

Still trying to get the hang of the newest TFT patch? Try out these three, trending team comp ideas in your next match!

Storyweavers continue to reign supreme in 14.9. You can still run the Kai'Sa Galio comp we talked about in the previous article, but you might also want to try out this Irelia-centric Storyweaver comp in your next game. Rather than having a burst of Trickshots, you will want a small dip in Duelist to activate Irelia's Duelist trait, and we're going with Lee Sin to also incorporate some more attack speed via the Dragonlord trait.

Early Game

We're going with a Storyweaver opener, which can be quite versatile. You'll likely want to get both Garen and Riven in your front line and then make up a backline of either Zoe, Sivir, or Zyra, whatever you can get your hands on in the early game. You may want to forgo Garen for a Bruiser instead to create a more effective frontline. Without Trickshots, Sivir is likely a worse option than Zyra or Zoe, but she does like similar items to Irelia, so she can be a convenient choice so that when you sell her your Irelia will be fully kitted. For Irelia, you'll want any combination of Red Buff, Infinity Edge, Giant Slayer, Guinsoo's Rageblade, and, believe it or not, Morellonomicon is a great choice too.

To round out your early five, you can do anything really, but if you want to remain on theme and keep some units for later, you can activate the Dragonlord theme by grabbing Diana and Janna. Diana is a fantastic tank and she will be in your team in your ideal endgame comp too, though Galio will be your priority tank. The Dragonlord trait will do AoE damage after a few seconds of combat and, crucially, then grant all your units increased attack speed - this is what we want for our Irelia carry.

Augment-wise, as usual, getting either a Dragonlord or Storyweaver Crest can diversify your comp a lot. "Enter The Dragon" can empower your late Dragonlord units, while augments that buff attack speed like "You Have My Bow" and "Tiny, but Deadly" work great for Irelia.

Level Eight

Once you're level 7 you have a chance of acquiring your core unit, Irelia. Grabbing augments that give you random 5-cost champions may also improve your chances to really kick the comp online. Aside from Irelia, you'll also want to find Galio and Lee Sin as soon as possible. Galio will be your tank-carry, so get him all your best tank items once he's fielded - Gargoyle Stoneplate, Redemption, Warmog's Armour, Dragon's Claw, Bramble Vest, and more.

With Riven, Galio, Irelia, Diana, and Lee Sin - you've got your Core taken care of. Now, to build on that, you may want to grab more Dragonlords to improve the trait's effect - Rakan is a natural choice as a strong 5-cost unit, and you could have kept the Janna from your early game to get to Dragonlord 4.

On the other hand, you can always dip into Heavenly - which is never a bad idea, by grabbing Wukong. Wukong will synergise with Diana, giving you Sage 2, which is another terrific dip-trait, and you can even get Heavenly by forgoing Janna and fielding a backline Soraka. You can also just go for level 9 and have both enchanters in the backline with Irelia and Kayle.

Irelia and Galio are your priority units - prioritise starring and itemising them over others!

Ghostly is still getting lots of play in patch 14.9, and you can run the same old Dryad-Ghostly combo, or try out something new, with this Heavenly Ghostly combo that centres around Kayn and Morgana. This combination takes advantage of several great four and five cost units while buffing them all with various Heavenly stat boosts.

Early Game

Most likely you'll want to start with a Heavenly opener. This can be extremely versatile, but in our example we've grabbed three units we want to keep all game - Qiyana, Kha'Zix, and Soraka, and then slotted in a couple of units that complement them. In this case, Darius will provide a Duelist synergy with Qiyana, as well as Umbral for Yone, who is there for Reaper with Kha'Zix.

Alternatively, you can get a headstart on the Ghostly units, but these are more scarce at early levels. You can get Caitlyn, Aatrox, and Illaoi without too much difficulty, but none of them will make it to our end-game comp.

In terms of Augments, a Heavenly Crest would be our ideal augment, to get that sweet Omnivamp boost to all units. "Not Today" is a good option for Kayn, while "Little Bubbies" has good synergy with this sort of lopsided comp (lots of low cost units, lots of high cost units).

Level Eight

We are keeping Qiyana, Soraka, and Kha'Zix, but now we need five other units to round out the comp. Our final Heavenly Unit will be Wukong, whenever you can get him, and he'll synergise with Morgana, one of the two core Ghostly units, by way of activating the Sage trait. For Morgana, you'll want to get a Morellonomicon and Spear of Shojin first and foremost. The third item is more flexible - Jeweled Gauntlet, Rapadon's Deathcap, Adaptive Helm, and more are all good options.

Our second Ghostly unit and our second carry is Kayn, who will activate Kha'Zix's Reaper trait. Kayn is a typical assassin who will want items like Edge of Night, Hand of Justice, Bloodthirster, or Titan's Resolve.

To round out our comp, we're gonna activate a few more synergies. For Qiyana, we'll put in a Lee Sin to activate Duelist. Lee Sin is a superb unit as well, and he would make a perfect Heavenly Emblem. Otherwise, he likes the same items as Kayn. To synergise with both Lee Sin and Soraka, and give us some more beef in the front line, we'll put in our cherry on top - Rakan.

Kayn, Morgana, and Lee Sin are your priority units - prioritise starring and itemising them over others!

Another Dryad comp to add to your repertoire. It's not that I love Dryads - I do - but they really are in that good of a spot right now. This time, instead of focusing on Gnar or Kindred as we usually do, we're going to branch off Kindred's Fated Trait, and run a Syndra-centric comp instead. Syndra is a terrific carry right now, and you can give her the perfect support by slotting in some beefy Dryads and pairing her with other Fated units.

Early Game

In the early game, you can easily do either a Dryad or Fated opener, depending on what units you come across in the first couple stages. In our example, we'll do a mix of this, knowing that we'll want to keep Ahri, Thresh, Gnar, and Kindred all game long. Of these, you'll only want to itemise Thresh, as he will be our main tank alongside Ornn. Ionic Spark is perfect for our AP-damage-focused composition, alongside any other common tank items like Gargoyle's Stoneplate, Warmog's Armor, Sunfire Camp, or Redemption, for example.

You can give our future Syndra's items to Ahri, but make sure you either have a Magnetic Remover or a back-up Ahri unit in your bench, since we'll want the Arcanist unit to stay in for the rest of the game to activate Syndra's trait. The items you'll want to get for Syndra are Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, and then Adaptive Helm. Adaptive + Rabandon's Deathcap, even two Adaptive Helms plus the hat, is a great combo right now as well.

A "Fated Crest" will be perfect for you in this camp so you can get to Fated 5 more easily. "Jeweled Lotus II" will let Syndra's abilities crit, while "Ba-BOOM!" works great with her quick cast time. "Magic Wand" and "Fully Adapted" may be great Augment choices depending on how you choose to itemise Syndra.

Level Eight

We're keeping everyone in our above example except for Illaoi and now we're going to round out the comp. To get to Fated 5, you'll want to find Syndra, of course, and eventually Sett as well. Syndra will synergise with Ahri's Arcanist while Sett will activate Gnar's Warden trait, making both units beefier. You'll want to tether Syndra and Sett now for their Fated bonuses.

Next we want our Dryads - Ornn and Azir. Both terrific units in their own right, and perfect for our comp, aside from the fact that we have no Invokers for Azir. If you go for level nine, that's the one gap you can fill out with perhaps an Annie. Ornn and Azir can both use a Thieves' Gloves if you can't spare the components to itemise them, but if you can, Ornn can use the same items Thresh did, while Azir is great with Spear of Shojin, Jeweled Gauntlet, and Statikk Shiv; to make his laser beam shred magic resistance from the enemy team.

If you can two-star Sett, he can make a terrific secondary carry to your Syndra as well. Sett's favoured items are typical AD fighter items like Bloodthirster, Titan's Resolve, Hand of Justice, and Sterak's Gage.

Syndra and Ornn are your priority units - prioritise starring and itemising them over others!
