New /dev Update: Exalted Skins, Mythic Shop, Nexus Finishers & more

In the latest /dev article, Riot shared their plans to include a new Exalted skin tier, a new place to spend Mythic Essence, Nexus Finishers, and more.

New Skin Tier: Exalted

From this year onwards, a brand new skin tier called "Exalted" will be in the game. The tier is defined as being a sort of luxury good in terms of cosmetics, and an Exalted Skin is one that is meant for players who "want" "hyper-exclusive skins". These will allegedly be “the best possible skin for each champion’s unique fantasy within a specific theme.”

The first Exalted skin in League of Legends will be Arcane Fractured Jinx. We’ll likely be getting this skin during Patch 14.24 alongside Arcane Season 2. The skin will feature two distinct models across three different forms and VFX that will highlight her Arcane story. Each form has a unique VO that reflects her during that specific moment in her journey. You can swap between the different forms freely by pressing Ctrl+5. More will be revealed later to avoid spoilers!

The Exalted skin tier news has received mixed reactions, and may be one of the more controversial announcements Riot has made in recent memory. In addition to adding a new skin tier to a game that arguably already has quite a few, this skin will not be directly purchasable and requires multiple instances of spending RP for a chance to acquire them, similar to the Treasure Bounty system in Teamfight Tactics.

Unlike Ultimate skins, Exalted skins will only be available during a short time window, because the “exclusivity of these skins is part of what makes them appealing to players who want them”.

New Currency: Ancient Spark

Ancient Spark will be the currency used to unlock Exalted Skins. You’ll be able to purchase an Arcane Spark for 400 RP each, and spend it in the new “Sanctum” for a chance to unlock the skin. Aside from Exalted Jinx, there is other content you can unlock while spending Sparks in the Sanctum. The chance to acquire an Exalted skin will be 0.5%, but you are guaranteed to unlock it after spending 80 Ancient Sparks. This equates to about 32000 RP or about $250.

The drop rate of content is as such:

Tier

Description

Example

Drop Rate

S

Highest value loot within The Sanctum’s pool

Arcane Fractured Jinx Exalted skin

0.5%

A

Various cosmetics including skins, rare new content, exclusive rewards

Select skins, exclusive paragon chromas, exclusive banner

10%

B

Primarily Mythic Essence in varying denominations and some accessories

Mythic Essence (5/10/25/50/100), random icon, random emote

89.5%

Some bad luck protection is included as well. As mentioned before, you’re guaranteed to get an S-tier drop after 80 attempts. You’re also guaranteed A-tier content within every 10 attempts.

Mythic Shop & Mythic Essence

Mythic content can now be found in a separate tab from Loot in the newly added “Mythic Shop”, starting with Patch 14.24. Aside from the usual rotation of Mythic skins, Riot will be including other sorts of cosmetics into the Mythic Shop that previously did not cost Mythic Essence, such as Legacy skins, event chromas, and emotes from Event Passes. This way if you missed out on something you really wanted, there's still a chance to get it in the Mythic Shop, albeit for a steeper price.

Nexus Finishers

One final thing Riot has announced are a new type of purchasable content, Nexus Finishers. These can also be found in the Mythic Shop and will be purchasable for 250 Mythic Essence. You can equip a Nexus Finisher on any champion or skin and then a randomly selected player from the winning team will be able to show it off. That means if everyone has a Finisher on your team, there's a 1/5 chance that yours will be used when you win the game.

The first Mythic Finisher that will be added to the Shop will be Jinx’s Super Mega Death Rocket!,straight from the Arcane universe.
