Go Glacial Here. If he engages on you, Howling Gale the enemy ADC so they can't follow up. If he targets your ADC, you're free to harass him since he has no escape once he goes in. Your peel is also good enough against Alistar.
Annie
Not seen anymore with the shift of meta but if played, she can burst you down even when not going one shot full AP. The stun can allow enough time for the enemy to follow up and kill you. Play it safe here and go Resolve as a secondary tree with bone plating to avoid getting bursted.
Bard
Sidestep or bait out his stun and you can easily poke him back. If you get caught though, you will likely be very low after the trade.
Blitzcrank
If you get caught, you're dead. Consider your wig snatched. Ripped right off your head. Same thing if it happens to your ADC. Go Summon Aery to mitigate as much damage as possible if that happens. Blitz falls off heavily later so you win late game. Play it relatively safe until then.
Brand
All Mages kinda counter Janna in her poke game, but keep playing it safe and going for safe trades until you can outheal/shield their damage later on. Go Glacial here because he's immobile and a decent gank will get him killed.
Braum
His shield kinda negates any kind of poke you deal on him or the enemy ADC, so it's in your best interest to law low. Glacial or Aery is good here.
Karma
She's the poke queen i fear... Don't get caught in her empowered Q's and after laning phase you'll be fine. Go Glacial Here.
Leona
Even when she engages you can just Howling Gale her all-in and she won't stun the enemy. Just make sure to do it while the animation is happening where she is pulling herself either towards you or a teammate. You can poke her all day. Really easy to lane against. Go Glacial here.
Lulu
Skill Matchup. Both carry enablers in their own rights. Her cooldown are slightly shorter than yours so she can poke more. Depends on how well you can Glacial the enemy ADC or her to engage and get a kill.
Lux
Your passive on Zephyr (W) gives you enough movement speed to avoid her spells. If you get caught, she can ult you and you die. However, in the same context, she gets caught very easily and has no escape. Glacial works best here.
Maokai
He can go untargetable so avoid getting hit by your tornado. His saplings in the bushes can also do major damage when you don't notice. Great all-in champ and you should go Aery here.
Milio
Enchanter on enchantress crime. Skill matchup. He can't cleanse airborne so your tornado and ult still reign supreme. Slightly in your favor. Go Glacial here.
Morgana
Morgana as a character is very weak right now. Her spells are slow moving which makes it easy to dodge. However, her spell shield is annoying. Try to bait it out and then unleash your tornado on her or the ADC. She has no escape after the spell shield goes down. Go Glacial here.
Nami
She has better heals than you early and great poke damage. Her CC from ult and bubble cause major problems if hit. Likewise, she is squishy and a tornado with Glacial can enable your ADC to get a kill of of her. Go Glacial here.
Nautilus
Same with Leona. You can cancel his hook with Howling Gale and leave him defenseless. However, if his hook lands, just tornado the enemy ADC so they can't follow up. Go Glacial here.
Pyke
Her worst matchup I think. His hook and dash stun make it really hard to stay healthy and one good hook will kill you/teammate. Also if you don't land your tornado well, he can dash behind you and get you stunned. Bannable tbh. Go Aery Here.
Rakan
Same with Leona and Naut but his dash mechanic works a little differently. You can still cancel it with Howling Gale but you have to predict his dash in order for it not to go off. If you are a split second too late, he will still airborne you even if your tornado lands. Tornado right when you think he's going to engage. Go Glacial Here.
Rell
Ever since her rework, you can't just expect a free lane bot anymore. Her E now gives her a burst of movement that can catch you off-guard. When she uses that in tandem with her stun, you can potentially get yourself killed. Still highly in your favor, but you have to play back a little more and be more careful. Poke when necessary and use your tornado as she sets up her E into W/Q so Glacial can counter.
Renata Glasc
If she lands her ult on your ADC with your shield put on them, it's likely you will take so much damage from them you'll die. However, she is squishy and immobile. You can wait for her bailout as well and walk away so the enemy still dies. Go Glacial here.
Senna
She has huge damage potential over you, but she has extremely low hp and can be so easily killed by a Glacial tornado and have your ADC follow up.
Seraphine
Mages are high threats to Janna and Seraphine is no exception. Struggles with mana early so keep her using her spells to which you can trade after and probably secure a kill.
Shaco
Hate Shaco support and even playing safe he still manages to outpoke you. Either ban him or go Aery and play super safe. Go for trades when necessary. Buy Oracle early.
Sona
She wastes so much mana and can die very easily due to her low hp. Go Glacial here and she can't escape. Late game however, she will have lots of health and can carry harder than you. You will have even trading in lane, so it's just better to leave your ADC and get other lanes fed.
Soraka
Outpokes and outheals. Try to go Chemtech Putrifier second and have your team target her first. It's even better if Soraka goes moonstone since she has little escape.
Swain
His root, eye, and Q has much better poke damage than you do. He's also much tankier than you. Go Glacial to avoid getting him to engage on you once he gets ult.
Tahm Kench
I hate going against Tahm. He has a major slow, airborne, and is extremely tanky. However, you could try peeling for your team with ult and tornado. Glacial or Aery works here.
Taric
He can't get close to you because of your passive movement speed and your range.
Thresh
You get hooked and you are almost certain to die. Try to predict the hook and nado it before he all-ins and flays you/teammate.
Vel'Koz
A mage like Vel'koz will 100 to 0 you if you get hit by his airborne. His poke is way better but is quite dodgeable. Go Glacial as mages don't have mobility.
Xerath
The worst mage you can fight against in support. Has so much range and can remove you from lane. I recommend roaming frequently or getting kindlegem first item to combat this.
Yuumi
Not TOO hard. You really have one target to tornado which is the enemy ADC. Go Glacial here to kill the ADC then Yuumi is free.
Zilean
Has good poke and mobility but you can outshine him later in the game.
Zyra
Her poke especially with Arcane Comet is annoying, but she has a lack of escape tools. Her root is slow and her ult takes time to airborne.
Aphelios
Your shield can buff his damage significantly and he can hold his own if the player knows how to use him correctly.
Ashe
Not the greatest for shielding since Ashe usually builds on-hit anyways. However, both of your CC can kill an enemy if you coordinate your attacks. You can peel for her very well.
Caitlyn
Your tornado, unless fully charged, doesn't give Caitlyn enough time to guarantee a Yordle Snap Trap, but your peel for her is unrivaled and can get you early kills.
Draven
The damage on his axes are insane and you can further this with the AD boost from your shield. You allow great follow up for Draven.
Ezreal
One of, if not, the safest duo in bot lane. You guys can play it safe for late game and can almost always guarantee the win.
Jhin
Shield is great on Jhin and you both have great movement speed.
Jinx
Fairly strong. You can wait for Jinx to get her powerspike and then enable her hypercarry potential.
Kai'Sa
Your tornado can allow follow up with Kai'sa E or her ult and get a kill off of that.
Kalista
Janna doesn't work with Kalista at all. Kalista requires someone to go in with her ult but Janna is fairly squishy and would probably die if sent by her.
Karthus
You both can play safe but Janna can't buff Karthus since he's AP. Otherwise, you still have good peel for him and can keep him alive.
Lucian
Lucian has good burst damage that can utilize all of Janna's abilities well. Plus his dash lets him engage on enemies Janna hits with her Q.
Nilah
Like Samira, Nilah has a good engage mechanic and can utilize the tornado and shielf buff well.
Samira
The tornado lets Samira knock the enemy up for more time and can easily get her to stack up to S in a short amount of time. Her ult does more damage when shielded by her too.
Seraphine
The Glacial Augment on Janna could let Seraphine automatically root/stun enemies and provide more poke damage.
Sivir
Average Synergy. Both you and Sivir can poke the enemy reliably and still remain unscathed due to Sivir's spellshield and your tornado.
Tristana
You can peel for Tristana and knock the enemy up to ensure a full bomb as well as getting her back safely.
Twitch
Twitch is immobile but has long range so you can amplify his damage whilst still keeping enemies away from him.
Varus
Good poke and shielding, allows for both of you to play back without engaging into dangerous territory.
Vayne
Peel for your Vayne and she can carry later on.
Veigar
The only thing you can do for Veigar is CC the enemy to force the stun from his cage or prevent enemies from getting close.
Xayah
Xayah is better with Rakan, but you can still do a double CC combo with her root and your tornado.
Zeri
You could buy Shurelya's here and let Zeri just run around causing havoc without dying.

Hi! I go by Lunar and I am a Masters Janna player on NA servers. I also play Mid and ADC as well. I wanted to share my guide on how Janna got me from Gold back in season 10 to Diamond as well as how her mechanics allowed me to reach Masters in season 13.
Tips and Tricks
One of the biggest tips I can give to current and upcoming Janna players is planning your tornado placement especially in a situation where you are getting chased. Lets say you got the turret plate and are running back to your tower, but the enemy jungler tries to cut you off. Place your tornado in the direction you are running and let it charge up. This is because if the jungler keeps trying to chase you down, the fully charged tornado will activate as they try to 1. dive you or 2. cause them to step back to avoid the tornado. This ensures a higher change of surviving since it removes the option of your tornado whiffing if you were to aim it to the side at the river instead. Also, you should almost always try to land your immobilizing spells before you activate your shield or ultimate. Janna gains an increase in her heal and shield power if you impair an enemy's movement so that could potentially save you or your teammate's life.
Optimization
One of the things that I can't stress enough when it comes to Janna builds is that you have to understand what kind of team comp you have and what the enemy has. This is because you will have to change up your runes, ability path, or items to combat the enemy. Don't blindly follow the same build every time. Sometimes Summon Aery is necessary despite Glacial Augment being her best rune to bring. This even goes down to the secondary runes as well. For example, I noted that in the resolve tree, Revitalize and Font of Life are what you should take to heal more. But what if there was a Pyke on the enemy team? Then you would probably go Bone Plating instead to keep yourself from dying too fast in the early game. As I stated before in the item build path, go for an item if your team needs it. It wouldn't make sense to go Moonstone Renewer when you have a team full of Assassins because their low health would not optimize the use of Moonstone that well.
