[11.5] Roofus' Grandmaster EUW Anivia OTP Midlane Guide

By Roofuslol
Introduction
Hey friends, my name is Roofus i am one of the best Anivia otps in Europe West and im chilling (haha) in grandmaster at the moment. Im only playing since season 6 and i started to main Anivia in season 7 that might be the reason why i only have 1 million mastery points on her. Yet i would say that there is not a single mechanic on her that im not aware of. I think the perception of how you play Anivia is generally a bit distorted since season 11 and im going to share with you with what runes/builds i play to have such massive success in this season.
Before we get started i just want to say that this is not an in-depth guide, however if enough people show interest i might go more into detail!
Runes
I probably have to do a lot of explaining here so let's talk through my runepage and why i take this instead of the other common Anivia runes.
First of all Runes are a matter of the matchup and the playstyle you like. I can totally see the reason why player are going
Phase Rush, Presence of Mind, Manaflow Band, etc, but since this is my guide i will explain my playstyle and why i think my runes are currently the best on Anivia.

As you can already see in the runepage, Anivia is nothing like Anivia in season 10 anymore. For me she works the best rather as a burst mage than a control mage now.

Electrocute fits Anivia's burst playstyle the best

Anivia has permanent cc on Glacial Storm and stun on Flash Frost that makes you get a lot of bonus damage by going Cheap Shot

From Eyeball Collection to Ghost Poro has been one of the best changes for me. I think the value of having an extended ward that gives you more security of where the enemy jungler is, is way greater than some ap that you only get if you are snowballing and let's be real if the Jungler camps your lane, it's hard to snowball. I like to place the ward either early at enemy Crimson Raptor or pre minute 3 at the enemy jungle entrance

The out-of-combat movement speed is just simply the best choice

Inspiration second

Magical Footwear gives you a lot of goldvalue and bonus movement speed, but you should exchange it with Perfect Timing in case you play against Zed or you need Mercury's Treads first against double ap cc mid/jungle like Syndra and Elise

I feel like Approach Velocity just got created for Anivia. The rune is absolutely godlike on her, cause you get movement speed, whenever you crowd control someone. You use the rune easily up to 50 times in 20 minutes and together with Luden's Tempest and Boots you get around +100ms when you hit someone with Glacial Storm or Flash Frost

How you should play with the runes all together:

First of all as you might wonder im neither running Presence of Mind nor Manaflow Band. From my experience you actually don't need these mana runes, Tear of the Goddess with a mana mythic item is usually enough. That being said
recall around minute 4, buying tear and using Teleport to get back on the lane is one of the most important things you have to do. I promise once you try out these runes in combination with the items you absolutely never want to play without that bonus movement speed ever again!

After hitting level 6 you are looking for fights and remember if you have only 200 Mana left without Teleport up, push the wave with the rest amount of mana and reset.

Alternatives:

Against heavy crowd control enemy team compositions like: Gragas, Skarner, Galio, Ashe, Leona i would definitely run Legend: Tenacity as rune with something else from the Precision rune path instead of Inspiration
Itembuild

Itempath + Explanation

Why am i building Luden's Tempest and not Everfrost might be a question in your mind and when should you build
Liandry's Torment ?
As i said i see Anivia rather as a burstmage than a controlmage nowadays. Even though the Gold value of Everfrost is way higher than Luden's Tempest it's not the optimal item choice on her in my opinion. That's simply, because Luden's gives you magic penetration that gives you more damage in the early game and lets you snowball in a fast paced meta! WIth Everfrost you need 2-3 more seconds to kill someone and you have to stay longer in fights to deal damage.
That's why i think Everfrost sounds good on Anivia, but is just a good looking bait.

Itempath + Explanation

Liandry's Torment is the must go Mythic item, in case the enemies have 3 tanks/ fighter.
Combine Liandry's Torment with Demonic Embrace second for the biggest efficiency.

Situational items afterwards

Void Staff

Void Staff is extremely cheap and efficient right now, it's by far one of the best items in the game. Anivia only has raw damage and not any Shield or Heal abilities that scale with Ability power, that's the reason why Void Staff is remarkable on her and you should build it as soon as atleast 2 enemies go magic resistance

Archangel's Staff

Archangel's Staff is by far the best item for her if the enemies have no magic resistances and you get some bonus mana on top

Zhonya's Hourglass

Zhonya's Hourglass is still one of the must buy items against engage heavy compositions and against Assassin .
I personally often build it as second item after Luden's Tempest and Sorcerer's Shoes and it synergizes just too well with Glacial Storm

Here you can see a clip of me killing FNC Upset, because of the Zhonya's Hourglass usage

These items are the most important ones on Anivia, the order when to build which item from these 3 depends on what you need and i think every other item is Tier 2 on her and very situational.
Conclusion
If people show enough interest im willing to go more in-depth and i might reveal some of my Anivia secrets with you :D
until then good luck on the Rift fellow Anivia player
