After watching the world playoffs and seeing the M5 vs. IG Game 1 match, I was tempted to try out Evelynn in mid. I found out that she is a very viable mid lane AP Carry/Assassin with massive burst potential. I believe that she under performs in a jungle role due to slow clear time and very limited CC prior to reaching level six. This guide focuses solely on her burst damage from her ultimate and ravage combined with her constant damage output in the form of her hate spikes. I see many guides where she is played with focus on either her hate spike or her ravage, whereas this item build efficiently and effectively allows a high damage output from each. The following guide aims to justify my item/rune/mastery choices as well as give in-depth information about her play style.

Pros:

Great ability to pick off back-line enemies quickly and effectively without much risk of being spotted.
Good team fight ability with her ultimate attack combined with the constant high damage output from her hate spikes.
Passive stealth. (What's not to love about that?)
While stealthed, Evelynn's mana regen is increased.

Cons:

After dashing in with her W, she can be quickly shut down by CC. (However after killing an enemy her W cooldown is refreshed thus allowing her to remove CC and escape)
Squishy and prone to harass from ranged mid-lane opponents.
Stealth is obviously countered by Vision Wards and Oracle's Elixir.

In the early game, it is important to be careful whilst farming. This is due solely to the fact that she is vulnerable to harass from ranged AP carries and AP carries such as Katarina who have harass abilities ( Bouncing Blades) that come at no mana cost. As a result, it is difficult to farm with Evelynn in the early game. Essentially; don't geet too obsessed with last hitting minions, especially if it would leave you in an exposed position. It is simply better to farm up enough gold to purchase Kage's Lucky Pick (a GP10 item) which will supplement your gold income until you can farm more easily.

The runes I have identified are fairly standard for AP Carries, particularly those without mana or those with low mana cost abilities and high mana regen, which scale well with her abilities and needs throughout the game.

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Magic penetration allows Evelynn to deal damage through the base magic resist of AD carries which are the primary targets of Evelynn in teamfights.

Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power
Scales with Evelynn's abilities as the game goes on and is multiplied by Rabadon's Deathcap to greatly increase her AP.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
Scales with Evelynn's abilities as the game goes on and is multiplied by Rabadon's Deathcap to greatly increase her AP.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
Initial AP boost allows Evelynn to farm with her hate spike in the early-game phase.

Boots
Mobility is key with Evelynn. Usually on an AP Carry I would suggest starting with a meki pendant for mana regen, however Evelynn's passive allows her to regenerate mana quickly and she realy needs to be able to avoid harass.

Health Potion
Use these simply to keep your health up as you will be subjected to a fair amount of poke.

Tear of the Goddess
Excellent on Evelynn as her spam abilities quickly farm up the stacks on this item.

Kage's Lucky Pick
As you will be subject to a lot of harass from your mid lane opponent, you will be unable to secure all of your last hits. As a solution, GP10 items must be used. Kage's Lucky Pick provides this GP10 and also builds into a Deathfire Grasp later on in the game.

Fiendish Codex
Ability power and CDR. This allows Evelynn to spam her Q with more frequency and damage output.

Sorcerer's Shoes
Although it is usually recommended on Evelynn to purchase Boots of Mobility, I believe it is more worthwhile to purchase Sorcerer's Shoes. This extra magic penetration will allow Evelynn's abilities to deal closer to their full potential.

Athene's Unholy Grail
CDR and Magic Resist would allow Evelynn to easily counter and burst down enemy AP carries and then escape into the fog with her W.
