Probably the easiest and most satisfying lane you can get as Trundle. Cheese him, he is always going to lose 1vs1 at level one. Quick trades with auto+Q, back off, and remember to wait until his stacks go off. When fighting, go ham, block him with pillar and ult while standing in king's domain. Easy 1vs1.
Aatrox
Hard to trade, even harder to kill early on. Try to dodge his Q's, if he messes them up, you can all in him.
Dr. Mundo
Just chilling. You outscale him in every moment of the match. Trundle's pillar also counters his passive, since it takes off his CC shield, but doesn't stop slowing him.
Camille
Playable. You win a level 6 1vs1 just like in any other match-up. Try not to get ganked and you'll win. Use your pillar to stop her dash, exactly at the time when she hits the wall with the first cast.
Cho'Gath
His silence may get really annoying, but even if he goes AP, you are still going to steal all his bonus health and one shot him.
Gangplank
A hard match-up. Probably the hardest one. Ask your jungler to play around top, one gank should do the trick. After reaching a certain advantage, you should be able to just run him down.
Garen
Whenever he uses his Q on you, answer with yours. It's even better to do the auto+Q animation cancel. During a 1vs1 you have to ult him first, otherwise he will burst you and win the fight.
Gragas
He won't have enough mana to poke you and farm. You outsustain him, and you will probably outfarm him.
Illaoi
Simple as a wire. Take down tentacles, stay behind minions and trade aggressively. You win at level 6 and any other stage of the game.
Irelia
If she tries to stack her passive at level 1, attack her. If she tries to fight, it means that she's already dead. Always use your ult while standing in the range of king's domain - it boosts your healing up by 25%.
Jax
The only way Jax can beat Trundle is by standing under his tower for the first 15 minutes of the game. I'm not joking. If enemy Jax knows how to play and hugs his turret, try to freeze the wave. He will be forced to fight and eventually get killed.
Kled
A very tricky match-up. Kled's early dominance won't let you chill in your lane. Avoid trading. If he goes in and hits his full combo, you won't survive. Wait until level 6, then try to make plays.
Maokai
It is worth to go grasp in this match-up. The amount of sustain both these champions have is so enormous, that at the end of the laning phase you will probably have over 40 stacks of grasp.
Malphite
Annoying as hell (if he maxes Q), but he is useless in the late game. Even if you go 0/8, you are still going to beat him. Always go conqueror and try not to fight.
Mordekaiser
Killable before 6. After 6 you can't really beat this thing (Unless you bait his ult before using your abilities). You win 1vs1 in late, but if you don't get two kills early on, it will be a struggle to fight him.
Nasus
Your ult completely wrecks Nasus - the same way it goes with Cho'Gath. Play aggressive, even if he gets fed - you win late. One ult on this guy and he's not tanky anymore.
Ornn
Don't let his burst damage catch you off-guard. Trade with auto+Q, he won't beat you after 6, just farm and win late.
Nocturne
He can't do anything against Trundle.
Fiora
It may be hard to play if you're new to The Troll - but it really isn't. Her W is pretty cancerous and even if she doesn't parry, the ability stops you from attacking for 3 seconds. Doesn't change the fact that you beat her mid and late game easily, if she doesn't parry your ult, of course.
Quinn
Super hard to play, probably even worse than Gangplank, although a gank or two can easily turn the tables - just farm.
Renekton
You may think it's easy, but laning against Renekton is the opposite version of fun. He is going to dash in, hit you with a combo for half of your hp, and dash our with full health. Doesn't change the fact the you beat him after 6.
Rengar
He can't even cheese you, two bites and another one bites the dust. Your pillar also stops his dash and ult if timed correctly.
Riven
Same as the Renekton match-up, but easier. Her trades don't hurt as much as Renekton's, and she is easier to kill in late game.
Rumble
Avoid the level 1 cheese from him. Probably a champion with the highest base damage in the game.
Ryze
Annoying, but playable. save your pillar to stop him from escaping with his R, I also recommend you to go ghost+tp in this match-up.
Sett
Braindead trades, very predictable. He is going to bully you early, but one ult after 6, and you'll kill him with half of your HP remaining.
Shen
Extreme cancer. Rely on your sustain and avoid any trades, he will only escape as the game goes on.
Sion
You can block his Q and ult with your pillar. You also steal all his stats and bonus health, so he becomes useless in late game.
Tahm Kench
Grasp works wonders here. Your ult wrecks him completely, and if you don't want to fight - just use the pillar and run away.
Teemo
Hard to play, and, paradoxically, harder to play after 6. His shrooms get really annoying, and if your jungler doesn't help you, you'll have to run him down yourself. Ghost + TP.
Tryndamere
Your Q steals his AD and makes you win every 1vs1 in the game. He can't cheese you, and after 6 you are way too tanky to be killed by him. Easy match up.
Urgot
If he goes ignite- be very careful. A large minion after level 11. Just beat him up. Try to dodge the E and you'll win every trade.
Vayne
She has to respect your pillar's slow, if she overextends, you can 1vs1 her easily. If your jungler comes, she's basically dead.
Vladimir
Both guys have enormous sustain, but you come out on top here. He can't really do anything during the laning phase.
Volibear
You beat him early and after 6. Don't let him hit his burst combo.
Warwick
Warwick is a.. he's not exacly a juggernaut, but in a 1vs1, he is just a worse Trundle. You beat him in every stage of the game.
Wukong
Do not disdain his level 6 combo. If he's got ignite, you are still going to win, provided you've ulted the real Wukong.
Yasuo
Don't let him stab you at level 1. You beat him in a 1vs1 at every level, but he is going to dash around the minions and keep being annoying. If he wants to fight, you can kill him easily. You win lvl 6.
Yorick
He won't do much against your sustain. After you make him go 0/5, he will probably keep bot-pushing in the top lane, since he is just a worse version of Trundle. Join your team and end the match fast, even though you outscale him.
Poppy
Poppy is very easy to beat. Her W doesn't affect you much because you haven't got any dashes in your kit. Do not stay near walls, fight after 6 and bait out her ult to cancel it with pillar so she cannot escape.
Yone
This guy may sometimes get on your nerves because of how hard it is to trade with him, but if you can just remain patient and not let him stab you for free, you will beat him in all stages of the game. Very similiar to Yasuo match-up.
Gnar
You've got way too much healing, so Gnar can't really poke you down. Cancel his jump mid-dash with pillar, go in and kill him. If you ult mega Gnar, you win instantly. He can't deal with you once you get your 2 base items.
Kayle
A good Kayle will hug her tower just to be able to fight you after level 11. If she isn't hugging it - then it's your time to shine. I advise to go TP+igni or TP+ghost in here. She can't poke you because of the minions aggro, can't do anything pre 6 either. Your pillar is a real slow, try to cut her off and just bite through her thin girly armour.
Jarvan IV
You win both trades and longer fights against him. He hasn't got the DPS to beat you in a 1vs1 and will most likely only fight with the jungler at his side. You outscale him REALLY hard, to such an extent that he is a siege minion for you after 30 minute.
Lee Sin
His laning phase is pretty strong, beware of his level 6 burst damage and don't let him kick you into his turret's range. Block his Q dash with your pillar.
Diana
We all know that Diana top is a troll pick. She won't hurt you even a little, just farm and kill her when given the opportunity.
Kennen
Play around bushes. It is recommended to go for armour/mr runes, since he uses his auto attacks a lot with Doran's blade. Doran shield is a must-have in here. If you manage to get to him, you can one shot him easily.
Pantheon
High burst damage, hard to trade against. You fight him the way you fight Renekton - avoid trades at all cost. He always wins with his empowered W, luckily he doesn't get much stronger after his ult, which is a good thing. You win after 6 if you manage to ult quick enough.
Sylas
Skill match-up. He can't cheese you, but his early trades sure do hurt. A lot. When he steals your ultimate, use it after he uses it on you to get back your stats and weaken him even more. Late game favours you really hard.
Swain
He is very squishy, and you can kill him with 5 auto attacks, provided you manage to dodge his E. Your pillar is a great slow and he won't get away easily. Ult him on your domain to turn the fight in favour of yours.
Zac
Picking Zac versus Trundle is a suicide. Not only you stop his only engage ability, you are also able to steal all his stats with your ultimate. Freelo.
Akali
If you get matched against a good Akali... well.. this would be almost unplayable. Your all in abilities don't work well against her quick burst + escape, you can't run her down either because of all that bonus movement speed. Stay under tower and just farm, if played properly, you win after 6.
Cassiopeia
This champion is heavily overrated. Yes, her kit is really broken, but you can learn to fight her. Avoid her Q's, and go ghost to stand any chance in a 1vs1. Without that, you won't be able to stick close to her.
Gwen
If she goes ignite - do not trade. It's impossible for you to win a 1vs1 there. If she doesn't go ignite - you can try trading, and you will most likely win after 6. Remember to ult her while she uses her W to steal all of this bonus armour and MR.
Viego
Be careful. Viego, just like Trundle, is a 1vs1 oriented champion. His laning phase isn't as strong as Trundle's, but you still have to pay a lot of attention to his early dmg and stun. Make sure to always focus him first, because if you get fed and you die while fighting him, he will steal your body and wreck your whole team.
Olaf
Completely countered by your champion, although his early game is really good. Quick trades and simply ult after 6 to get a free kill.
Ashe
Your pillar and her ult are a ton of CC. Great for disengage, even better for chasing down the enemy team.
Sivir
With you W and sivir's ult, no one can escape. Also the huge amount of MS lets you use your pillar more efficiently.
Anivia
Pillar with the wall of ice can block the whole way to the dragon/baron pit, keeping them away.
Hecarim
Your pillar and his ult engage are great at destroying whole team comps. 2 beefy guys taking down the whole team by themselves.
Braum
A CC bomb. Both his passive and Q provide so much stuns/slows that your enemies just can't move.
Vayne
She can use her E to throw enemies in the pillar. The pillar also lets Vayne get to the enemies way quicker.

Trundle is one of the best if not the best juggernaut pick in the top lane if played by an andequate player. The king of teamfights and 1v1s, a super tanky troll with built-in healing and all kinds of debuffs which help him to plough through his enemies, also works great as a support with certain AD carries. He also counters every tank/juggernaut in the game, since both his Q and ultimate steal his enemies' stats. Contrary to his appearances, this champion is great at teamfighting, and best at frontlining and catching enemies. It is not worth to play him the way you would play as Yorick, you don't need to build hullbreaker either because both your push and 1v1 is strongest in the game.
Some tips and tricks
There are quite a few Trundle tricks that not many people know about.
1. Auto + Q animation cancel
This is the bread and butter trick if you want to be an effective top laner. Lets you win trades fairly easy. During the end of your auto attack animation, hit Q and deal more damage in faster time. It's great at cheesing, and even better at finish off your targets. When they are low, flash for them with auto attack, and Q immediately after, they will probably flash away, but your Q is going to kill them anyway.
2. Proper W usage
Way too many people in low elo forget how helpful this ability is. Whenever you're about to receive any healing, remember to use your W before. e.g when your team is finishing the baron, use your w to heal back to full health. Same goes for all the dragons and big monsters in the game. Try not to forget to use W before ulting, it will make you unkillable in a 1vs1.
3. The R kill
Sometimes it's better to bait your opponent out and finish them off with your ultimate - it deals quite the damage if they are low health, and it's also a DOT ability, meaning that if they leave with 50 hp after the first cast, the ult is still going to get them. If someone's low on health you can always flash + R to finish off your target from a ranged distance. Most people don't expect this.
4. The proper pillar placement
Trundle's E is what makes him a not so simple juggernaut. Its correct usage requires a lot of skill and good timing from a player, and if used properly - it is able to turn the entire fight on your team's side. E.g. Blocking lee sin's second Q, Zac's E(very simple), even Jax's Q and Xin Zhao's E or Malphite's ult. Basically any dash with cast time. It also works good against hooks. You can save your allies from Blitzcrank's hooks with using the pillar on your ally just when he casts his Q. To counter Nautilus, simply put a pillar in front of his hook so it doesn't connect to your teammate. Even if you are able to pull those tricks off, it's still a russian roulette - you never know what your enemy's going to do, but practise and you'll be able to shine as a player with some real skill. Another thing with pillar is cutting people off - use it near walls so your enemies will have to go around - leaving them as a prey for your ADC or an assassin. If you're lucky enough, you can even trap people between pillar and the wall. It's not the easiest thing to do, but if you manage to do so, it will leave them without any way to escape, and force to use flash or simply die. A well placed pillar in late game is a death sentence. A 60% slow is almost as high as Nasus's W, but it is an AoE ability, and you don't have to be that great at aiming.
These are all the major tricks you can learn to perfect your playstyle as The Troll King.
My experience
I started to really main Trundle at the start of S9, when he received some buffs which made him a champion again, not a cannon minion that he used to since may 2018 after some enormous nerfs. Playing him top brought the most fun, so I started learning the champion and actually managed to win 95% of my lanes. After hitting P4 with the troll, I realised that I was marked as one of the best Trundle top player in the world, with about 80% win rate in over 100 matches. I managed to hit P1 just with him, but had to stop because of my back surgery, which made me abandon the game for the next 4 months. I hit P1 and on June 25, 2019 I also hit rank 2 global as Trundle top. I haven't got any screens except the one where I am rank 3. Now I'm trying to get back to game, I still win easily, but after those tiamat changes, Trundle was hit really hard. Tiamat made you win and stomp the lane, helped with combos, and ravenous/titanic hydra reset was the best thing ever. I truly miss those times.
