Morgana
Morgana doesn't really have 'extreme' threats. she's probably the safest pick on botlane right now as she is very hard to counter. Her biggest threats tend to come from champs who simply outscale her, as we'll see.

Name a more iconic duo... I'll wait... Who doesn't like being stunned for 2 seconds at level 1 only to be trapped and deleted right after?!

In it we go over some of the more abstract concepts that are harder to convey over text to really help you master Morgana and I suggest giving it a watch!
Hi guys! My name's Pocket and I'm a League of Legends guide creator. I make video guides on YouTube as well as doing VOD reviews with an assortment of high ELO co-hosts on Twitch, and sometimes I even get chance to play the game myself. If you want to check out my YouTube, Twitch or come hang out in Discord click the links below! |
If you're here, you've probably already decided to play her, but let's talk a little about what Morgana can do and what makes her work so well!
So to start, Morgana is a mage, and in this guide we will be focusing on her ability as a support. The reason for this is while being a mage she also has a huge amount of utility.
Her Q - Dark Binding is a projectile snare that has a massive 2-3 second root on hit. This is the bread and butter of her kit and the ability you will max first in every game!
Her W - Tormented Shadow is an AoE pool that does up to 10 ticks of damage. This can help follow up a Q with damage, and also help with waveclear and with damage on objectives. That said this is usually the last ability maxed.
Her E - Black Shield is a self and ally-targetable shield that absorbs exclusive magic damage. While the shield still has any amount of the holder is also completely immune to crowd control! This can be a game changer, giving your allies big shields into AP heavy comps and extremely long CC immunity into AD heavy comps. You will max this second!
Her R - Soul Shackles is an AoE root. Morgana gains movement speed and latches soul shackles to all enemies in range, dealing damage and slowing them, if they stay in range for 3 seconds they are dealt more damage and stunned for 1.5 seconds. Big in teamfights, but it makes you every vulnerable!
Lastly, but certainly not least, Morgana's Passive heals you for 20% of the damage you abilities do to champions, large monsters and large minions. Every time you are healed by this passive, your W gets it's cooldown reduced by 1 second!
Summon Aery is also viable, it does less damage to the enemy but it gives shielding for your allies and allows your spell shield (and therefore the CC immunity) to stay on allies for longer, it also procs from auto-attacks so may be better into easy melee matchups where you can poke more consistently. |

Secondly we will take either Cosmic Insight or Biscuit Delivery. I tend to go Biscuit Delivery, but Cosmic Insight gives you better item haste and therefore more uses of Zhonya's Hourglass, which is great. |

A more defensive starter item, it offers health, health regen and safer farming, at the cost of less AP and no manaregen. This is great into high range and poke heavy laners, you can farm safely by last hitting minions rather than poking and the HP regen keeps you healthier. | The aggressive option, offering more AP and manaregen so you can hit more and hit harder in lane. This is great into easy matchups and low range/melee laners. You can farm up quickly with easy poke and the manaregen means you can be more aggressive and are less afraid to miss a Q. |
The key here is to understand that neither one of these is 'better'. It is entirely matchup dependent. Take into consideration both the enemy support and ADC and choose accordingly. Using the advice above you should be able to quickly learn what matchups you will prefer each option into!

Imperial Mandate In my opinion, Imperial Mandate is by far the best mythic item on Morgana. Not only does the passive give you and your ally burst damage when you hit a Q, but it also procs on slows. Your ult will always slow enemies that it hits, so when you manage to get a big ult off all of them will be dealt bonus damage by you and then marked, for your allies to then deal even more damage to. This is jsut fantastic and by the time you have Imperial Mandate and Zhonya's Hourglass you're a real teamfight threat! |

These are the typical boot choice on Morgana. They offer better engage with your Q as you can swiftly take position and catch the enemy out while also giving you better roam potential. In lane they make you fairly scary, which is why most people take them I guess! | These outscale Mobility Boots and work for a more late game or teamfight oriented playstyle. They're also slightly cheaper than Mobility boots so you can could get Zhonya's Hourglass a little earlier, or that extra control ward for Drake |
I really think this comes down to playstyle and feel. Mobility Boots are the logical choice for most people and they are what I would suggest, but I can't help but feel really nice with Ionian Boots of Lucidity, and when you watch the highest ELO Morgana players you'll notic them cropping up more and more, likely due to the fact that these higher level players hit ridiculously well timed spell shields so the extra cooldown is even more important. At the end of the day my best advice is that Mobility Boots will probably be best for you, but try out Cooldown Boots sometime and see how you feel!

Vigilant Wardstone Vigilant Wardstone is the key item for supports. It is upgraded easily due to your warding support item and the passive ability to not only hold 3 control wards, but to place an extra control AND stealth ward is huge. Vision control should not be underestimated, especially by newer players, and this allows you to really take advantage of vision and map control. Build this every game! |

Redemption It's cheap, it gives you bigger shields, it gives you a nice amount of mana restoration which can really help in some games as well as a big AoE heal and damage on it's active ability that can go great with your Ult. You can also use the active ability while dead! So if a brave Ult got you killed don't worry, with Redemption you can still help out! |

Dark Seal A very solid buy on Morgana support. It gives you mana as well as increased healing from potions, so it synergises well with Refillable Potion, but of course the real benefit is the stacking AP, up to 40, for just 350 gold, with the potential to upgrade to a Mejai's Soulstealer. Morgana has solid AP ratios on all her abilities, 70% on everything except her Q, which is 90%, so she really can use this gold efficient AP. Of course, you lose stacks when you die and taking up an ivnentory slot when you have support item, stopwatch, boots and control wards is risky, so only buy this when confident or ahead! |

Zeke's Convergence Zeke's Convergence synergises very nicely with your kit, and Imperial Mandate. You bind yourself to an ally and then whenever you immobilise and enemy your ally gains bonus magic damage every time they hit that enemy with an attack or ability. Not only is this a great offensive choice to buff your ally, but it gives you lots of defensive stats too, armour, health, ability haste and mana, which helps you survive your ults even better! This is great when you have an ally that's doing very well. |

Chemtech Putrifier Chemtech Putrifier is a niche but extremely useful item for when the enemy has lots of healing. It applies a 40% anti-heal debuff, called Grievous Wounds, to any enemy that you deal magic damage to. This buff is increased to 60% when you immobilise an enemy, so it can be great into enchanters, as when you lock down your ADC with your Q they cannot be healed very well and your burst is even better! |
