Bruiser Senna's Guide to Higher Elo [Newest Pre-Season Patch

By pharish13
Why Senna?
Senna is the first Marksman support in League and comes with a very versatile kit that provides a bit of everything, damage, healing, CC, mobility and global support for your team. She is an indefinitely scaling champion that only gets stronger with time, whilst the vast majority of champions in league plateau when full build. Her early game despite being a scaling champion is not absolutely weak, as you still provide consistent damage, healing and overall utility for your team.

Why Bruiser Senna?

From my hours of playing Senna and experimenting with different builds, I found out that Bruiser Senna is the best way to go with her for the vast majority of matches. There are several reasons for that. Firstly, you team most likely doesn't need a second squishy, high-DPS Marksman. The majority of the games, having one high-DPS marksman and playing around to protect them is enough, when there's 2 however, things can go downhill pretty fast if your team is falling behind, or in other words, fed enemy assassins will insta-delete your entire botlane. I personally never understood the reasoning behind going for full damage Senna. You are a support, therefore your job is to support the ADC, not take it's place. If you ADC is falling behind, you will fall behind as well as full DPS Senna, which will automatically put 2 players of your team into a bad position. And when DPS Senna is behind, she is reaaaally behind. Bruiser Senna is great because you will stay alive for longer in teamfights, which means you will be able to provide support to your team to the fullest, whilst still dealing very consistent damage to enemies (trust me, the damage is very powerful regardless).

Let's talk about the two core items Bruiser Senna builds.

1. Divine Sunderer

- Divine Sunderer is a phenomenal item on Senna. Unlike Kraken which requires consistent attacking to get it's full value, with Divine you apply a massive burst of damage with a single Auto-Q combo. It provides healing for you which is *HUGE* in the early laning phase and also doesn't fall behind of Kraken when it comes to shredding tanks (in fact, it is better against champions with high HP than Kraken). It grands you ability haste which is extremely useful for Senna and makes you a bit tankier. All good stuff. Whilst Kraken gives you only damage, Sunderer gives you a whole spectrum of buffs (self-sustain, damage, tank-shredding, haste.. you name it) which results in a massive powerspike for Senna after building it.

2. Black Cleaver

- The Black Cleaver is a PHENOMENAL item, especially on Senna. The amount of value you get from this item is insane, in my opinion, it's one of the greatest items in the game. Let me explain. Cleaver, when you think about it, is technically a support item. No, no... I don't mean an item "supports" should build (well, except Senna), but it's an item that actually supports your team. Cleaver is the ONLY item in the game, that shreds a targets armor for your ENTIRE team, not just ignoring it for yourself and your own damage. Thus, it actually makes perfect sense why a support such as Senna might build it, you can apply damage really fast to multiple enemies with your kit, thus giving your entire team an easier time in teamfights. Moreover, the stats this item gives you are ideal for Senna. The extra Health is really good to have and with it and Sunderer the bonus 950 health you get makes a big difference in teamfights. On top of that it gives you 25 Ability Haste which is MASSIVE, and the best of all, it's passive Rage stacks perfectly with your Passive, giving you a really big burst of movement speed when attacking enemies which is perfect for both chasing down targets or escaping fights if necessary. With Sunderer and Cleaver, you'll eat through tanks like crazy, whilst still dealing very solid damage to squishier targets and having reasonable sustain.

As for your later building options, I personally prefer to go for additional tank/damage items that will grand me even more sustain on top of more damage. All of those items in the build provided give very decent amount of damage on top of providing you with sustain and other awesome stuff. You don't really need attack speed items (although Wit's end is quite nice versus heavy AP teams), since your Lethal Tempo will provide you with that, that's why we take Lethal Tempo, to compensate for the only single thing we're missing with Bruiser Senna - Attack Speed. With this build/rune combination, you'll become a late game killing machine, which deals almost as much damage as your ADC whilst being twice as tanky and triple as versatile.

Finally, let me give you a few tips as Senna.

For her ult - Senna's Ult in my humble opinion is one of the strongest ultimates in the game, as it's the only instant global skillshot in the game with no travel time, basically a guaranteed hit. With your ult you can support your allies throughout the map, without leaving your lane, as well as use it for vision and even cheesy kills. However there is one mistake I see from a lot of Senna players when it comes to using her ultimate and it's that they're using it TOO LATE in teamfights. There is no reason to wait till an enemy or ally is low to use your ultimate, your ultimate doesn't scale with HP, neither it's damage, nor it's shield. By not using your ultimate at the beginning of the teamfights when all of your allies are alive, you are depriving them of the shield and a very strong heads-up in a teamfight. You should rather be using your ultimate in teamfights first thing, so your team basically engages with a Mountain Soul, enemies are damaged a bit and MOST IMPORTANTLY, you get FULL vision of the area where the fight is held. This information in itself is massive. Do not save your ultimate to last hit low-hp enemies, it's not worth it. You may miss and not get any value from it, or it may not kill the enemy (it doesn't deal THAT much damage).

Stack Farming - Stacks are extremely important for Senna, but that doesn't mean you should go out of your way to farm them. It is NOT worth to risk getting caught by Morgana Q in the laning phase to get a single Mist and die for it. It is not worth to lose half of your HP or more in the laning phase because you got greedy for a second-hit stack or a far away mist. You have to find the balance between farming a consistent amount of stacks per minute and knowing when to let go off a stack when farming it would be unsafe. Sometimes it might be even better to let a Mist die off than using your Q to collect it, if you're running low on mana.

W - Not many players know this, but if Senna's W kills the target it lands on, it instantly activates. If you last hit a minion with your W, it will instantly root all enemies around it and they won't be prepared for it. It's kinda hard to land, but a neat trick regardless. In certain situations, if you use this to your advantage, it could mean the difference between an enemy champion dying and an enemy champion escaping safely. Say for example you and your team are in the enemy jungle and you see the enemy Kha Zix taking the raptors. If you land your W on the Kha Zix, he will have more than enough time to E-away safely and you'll miss out on the kill. However if you manage to last hit one of the little raptors, he will be instantly rooted and your team will eat him immediately. Again, it's a very advanced play and not many Senna players can land it, but that's also what makes it strong, nobody really expects it.

And that's it for now. There's a lot more to say about Senna, but I'll let this guide be relatively short and straight forward. Let me know what you think, and good luck with your Senna grind <3
