Champion Build Guide
Who Am I?
Hello I'm Lipatant, I'm a low elo EUW player and I'm currently M7 128k with Mordekaiser.
And here's my OP.GG.
This build was brought to me by HappyChimeNoises' video about Furbo, a master player.
Also, english isn't my native language so if I've made any mistake, you can correct me in the Discussion section.

Why?
I'm not a fan of the "traditional" Mordekaiser build where you rush Rylai's Crystal Scepter.
I do think it's better to exploit Mordekaiser's early damage by buying Iceborn Gauntlet first then go for damage.
This build fits solo queue better because it covers most of Mordekaiser's weaknesses.

+ True Hyper Carry Only a few of true hyper carries remain in the game: champions like Vladimir or Fiora for example. Those champions can solo carry fights if they make little to no mistakes. For Mordekaiser, his standard Rylai's Crystal Scepter build lacks tankiness, making him very difficult to play against comps with lot of cc. However, this tanky build gives him more time, while still maintaining good damages thanks to Nashor's Tooth. |
+ Easy to play Even if you miss your Qs ( Obliterate), you can still beat people to death with Nashor's Tooth. Just focus on your macro and you should climb. |
- Weak early-game Your early-game is about farming and punishing ennemies over-extending (with Ghost). |
Items
First Back
950g (or 700g/1000g/1750g)
CDR Boots |
Take it, it's only 950g and gives you very good stats as well as the passive for your Ghost and Smite. In some RARE match-ups, you could take Mercury's Treads but it's not as good as Ionian Boots of Lucidity. |
Damage |
Alternative first back item. It just gives you much more damage. Is turned into Iceborn Gauntlet after. Do not take it if you're planning on buying Jak'Sho, The Protean. If you've already purchased it, keep your Sheen for as long as you can before selling it. If you have spare golds to spend, you can take Boots. |
1st Item
Mythic item
VS
|
Iceborn Gauntlet is better in most situations. In addition of giving you tankiness, you get more damage and a slow. The early Sheen is a nice bonus too. The main weakness of it lies in its lack of Magic Resistance. But if you're against an hybrid comp, you can still build Iceborn Gauntlet, then build a Negatron Cloak for only 900g. | Jak'Sho, The Protean is an alternative. It gives both Armor and Magic Resistance so it's cool. You can run this item when you know that you won't need Iceborn Gauntlet's early damage or slow. It's very effective against AP tanks like Zac or Sejuani. |
Cheap components
Optional, before your 2nd item
AS |
Is turned into Nashor's Tooth after. Allows you to proc your passive ( Darkness Rise) faster. |
MR |
Very good if you're building Armor items ( Iceborn Gauntlet) and need a bit of Magic Resistance against 1 or 2 ennemies. Can be turned into Force of Nature later in the game. |
Anti-Heal |
If you need Armor and/or Anti-Heal. Very effective against champions like Olaf, Warwick or Yasuo. Can be turned into Thornmail later in the game. |
2nd Item
Always the same
Staple | Take it, it gives a lot of damage. Don't try building something else, except cheap components like Negatron Cloak or Bramble Vest. After that, you'll have enough damage to kill most champions, even with a tank build. |
Tank Items
Most of your build
Armor Anti-Heal |
Hurts (scaling with armor), apply Grievious Wounds and give a lot of armor. Can be built from Bramble Vest. |
RM Speed |
This item is very good for sticking to ennemies, and gives you MR. Can be built from Negatron Cloak. |
Armor RM Shield |
This item has an amazing synergy with Mordekaiser, especially with his W ( Indestructible). It gives you an additional shield that you can use to earn time before using your W again. However, since it doesn't give any HP but scales with the bonus HP that you already have, it's a good 4th or 5th item. |
RM Heal/Shield |
Good alternative/addition to Force of Nature. It synergies with your W's ( Indestructible) heal and shield, as well as Gargoyle Stoneplate's active or any ally shield/heal ( Soraka, Rakan, Janna...). |
Armor Slow |
If you really need more armor. |
Damage Items
If you don't kill ennemies fast enough
Damage Burn |
Gives more HP, more AP and even more AP scaling with your HP. The burn is also quite nice since it can be used by your passive ( Darkness Rise). Most games, you'll finish your build with a tank item, Demonic Embrace, then another tank item. |
Damage Slow |
Situational. Most of the time, you won't need it since you already have Iceborn Gauntlet. |
Abilities
Mordekaiser's abilities are so simple that I'm not gonna take the effort to explain any of them. So instead, here are random memes I found on Reddit or made myself.

Tips
Playing any match-up
Deduce who you need to focus
You have to identify 4 types of ennemy:
|
|
Of course, these categories are subject to change depending on who's fed and who isn't.
Also, some champions are threats only under certain circumstances. For example, Kayle can be considered a 'Hard-Counter' only if she has her ult. If she ults, she become a 'Teamfight Threat', meaning that you can ult her and beat her to death.
Keep in mind that almost every comp have a weak point.
For example, if you're facing Olaf, Ivern, Zed, Ashe and Lulu.
In this comp, Olaf and Ivern are no-goes. Zed is too slippery, even if you ult him and Lulu is difficult to reach. However, Ashe can only be protected by Ivern and Lulu and needs to be in range in order to DPS. So you can try to get close to Ashe, then ult her and it's free.
Surviving early-game
Preparing a comeback
If you are falling behind, it's ok, don't panic. Here are a few thing that you can do to comeback:
a) Focus on farming.
You have 3 major powerspikes, and farming is a safe way of reaching them:
b) Play safe and look for bounties.
Mordekaiser is really good at focusing one person. So you can wait for a fight, then ult the fed enemy when they're low and it's free money.
c) Use other carries.
You may not be only carry in your team. With your tankiness and R ( Realm of Death), you can bait ennemies to attack your carry, then ulting the threat away from your allies. If you get the kill, that's good, if your carry get it, it's good too.
