Champion Build Guide
Who are you?
I'm casual player from EUNE who loves to experiment with builds.
Last season plat 4 I am basically Hide on Bush, such a great player, that even Pro players dodge when they are up against me. My builds always win me the game.
I went from on hit Ivern to this masterpiece. This is my first guide ever so I'm pretty inexperienced with the site in general. I'm not native English speaker so correct my mistakes if you find any. Most of the times when I create new build, It's because i forgot to change my runes from the last game, so I just adapt to them. :))))

Pros and cons
When someone first picks veigar u think for yourself: "wow what a nice squishy lets pick zed and one shot him the entire game" only 5 minutes later to realise he has more armour than your tank toplaner.
Pros:
- Tanky and deals a lot of damage, easy to survive dives and ganks.
- Insane teamfight, survivability and siege.
Cons:
- To deal considerable amount of damage you need to be in lane almost all the time and give up map pressure. That means that you are weak early.
- Obvious FLAMING
- Veigar's E has big CD early, and costs a lot of mana. Enemies gain an opening every time you waste E.

Teamfights
In dragon or baron pit you can keep the enemies out of the "steal" range and not be afraid of dying from assassins. Veigar's
(E) is a great weapon in teamfights.
I made this guide just to show the possibilities with tank veigar and it's up to you how are you gonna play him.
If you are low elo like me, you already know that ARAM starts at 20th minute mark.
During that time try to side lane, but if you see 2 or more enemy champs missing recall immediately. If you see that your team is getting pushed to the inner turret recall and defend it. Your and makes it easy to defend turrets, and make them much harder for enemy team to dive. Veigar also has very good TP deny. If an enemy starts teleporting in the middle of your team, you can just set up cage and one shot them before they are able to do anything.

Runes
I like electrocute
, it compensates for your lack of burst damage.
Other rune options: , .
Bonus runes: if you go vs more AP than AD change them to bonus magic resistance instead of armor.

The main combo that goes with this rune is E+W+Q. When you lack the damage to kill your oponents with R, very often elecrocute will finish them off. |
This rune together with ravenous hunter helps you have sustain after bad trades. |
Very useful rune in mid lane where you get additional vision, helps you avoid enemy ganks. |
Why tank?
Veigar gains a lot of AP from his passive
so he doesn't need Ap items.
Tankier Veigar can survive bursts from assassins and still do a lot of damage in teamfights.
ATTENTION: VEIGAR IS NOT A FRONTLINE!
As you can see, I wasn't paying attention at all, and those two were standing on top of me. Without breaking a sweat, I turned the fight with my teammates after surviving for 15 seconds without any help.

When to pick him?
Don't first pick veigar, since he has many counter matchups, it's very likely that you will get counterpicked and play against katarina who will make it very difficult to itemize against. It's best to pick him when enemy team has 4/5 AD champs, or your team lacks some AP. The more AP they have, more difficult the game becomes. Champions who build
pose the biggest threat to you, even if you itemize against them they will still do a lot of burn damage.
Items
I start with Tear of the Goddess for mana so I can longer stay in lane.(if you are not a veigar main be ready to miss your first cs since tear of the goddess doesn't give you AP)
Frozen Heart gives you a lot of mana and armor plus ability haste, very good choice.
Locket of the Iron Solari is very strong teamfight item, and if you are playing veigar support, this is the item choice for you.
Abyssal Mask is now bad choice, it got changed at the end of the season 11.
Force of Nature this item kinda replaces your boots, besides the fact it gives you more MR and nice passive.
Rabadon's Deathcap is the only AP ITEM YOU NEED TO TAKE. It packs a lot of AP and buffs your passive 35%!
You can also build Luden's Tempest for more damage.
I tried bulding Luden's Tempest a couple of times, and it worked just perfectly. It gives you a lot of magic penetration late game + nice poke passive.
Crown of the Shattered Queen experimental. I need to put this item to the test. My predictions are that it's good for bullying assassins, but if you are already building tank items why would you need this?
As you may have noticed I didn't include boots in this guide. I personally don't buy boots, but that may change in the future. Boots have great benefits, so I'll try to match them with the new runes I'm developing.

Abilities
Veigar's kit is very simple and easy to use.
Notice: Don't confuse stacking ap from killing minions and damaging champions. You only get minion stacks from Q, meanwhile if you hit an enemy champion with any ability, you will get stacks. For every takedown on enemy champion you will get 5 stacks.

Laning phase
Concentrate on CSing, especially early game when you lack AP to finish off minions.
If the enemy plays very agressively lvl 2, you can proc electrocute with W+Q+AA. Try to avoid trades as much as possible, abilities drain a lot of mana. You rely on short burst oriented trades, or slowly damaging opponent until they are in health range(they dropped low enough do you to kill them) for your full combo kill.
If you see a dive coming, you don't have to recall since it's very hard to kill you under turret. If you see that enemy team is gathering for a 3+ champ dive, back off or try to get your jungler's help.
Deepwards(wards that reveal enemy champions significantly earlier before they gank you) are not necessary, but you should ward it for the sake of your team.

Roaming when to leave lane etc...
How to setup ganks: try to lure enemy opponent by missing
W or
Q skillshots, but keep your E for ganks. If they get caught in the cage it's over for them, you will either kill them, or they burn flash and die anyways. Try to play around your opponent's summoner spells like
or
and if they have
make sure to ult before they exit the
cage stun.
I don't recommend following enemy laner roams, stay in lane and farm, but don't forget to spam ping your team! If you want to roam, secure vision in the river first.

Is it better than AP veigar?
I definetly think that the build is great, I had much more fun playing tank veigar, had better KD , very good winrates and easy/relaxing laning phase(I didn't need to worry about assassins one shoting me).
I sometimes replace standard build with this one, and I'm still experimenting with new items and runes to make this guide better and more accurate.
The strength of this build comes from enemies thinking they can kill you since they are used to dealing a lot of damage to standard veigars. That makes them go for agressive, unsafe plays which you can easily punish.
