The truth is, Vel'koz can actually support your team. Not only does his Q slow enemies it also has stupid range and hits like a truck when finally maxed. His E also being a knock up which you should definitely hold onto for those ganks or if the enemy bot lane has a strong all in. Lastly Vel'koz supports the team by picking up the slack. Common complaint in League, "my teammates are trash and they're feeding". Vel'koz can fill that VOID by doing ungodly amounts of damage, having CC abilities, spectacular wave clear, amazing range, and an ultimate when used properly and landing it on its 3rd ability will literally one shot/wipe out whole teams. I personally think Velkoz support is perfect if you're trying to climb and gain some of that elo.
