Build a Team Comp
Set 12 has a total of 9 Hero Augments for Poppy, Blitzcrank, Lillia, Elise, Nunu, Galio, Rumble, Shen and Wukong. It's not possible for two players to have the same Hero Augment since Set 12, so you always know you are uncontested before taking it.
Current Hero Tier List:
S Tier - Wukong
A Tier - Lillia
B Tier - Rumble, Galio, Blitzcrank, Poppy
C Tier - Shen, Nunu, Elise
Portal is a great comp at the moment due its powerful power spikes in mid game. It's heavily recommend to only play this comp if you can guarantee an early Portal Emblem with the help of the Starting Portal / Augments / Spatula. With the Emblem you can push for Level 6 in Stage 3-2 and stabilize with 6 Portals without having to find Ryze or Taric.
Push for Level 8 in early Stage 4 and look for Taric and Ryze so you can run 8 Portal. Once you've stabilized with an upgraded board you can push towards Level 9. Add Norra once you find her and replace a weaker Portal unit like Jayce. With Level 9 you can add Vex/Nami to support Norra and add Diana to cap out your board.
If the game allows you can try to reach 10 Portal as a win condition, since you only need two Emblems. This is very doable in the Trainer Golem Portal, since you only need Level 9 to achieve this.
Yuumi positioning doesn't matter anymore, she used to block the Hex she started in, but this doesn't work anymore.
In early game you can play around 4 Bastion with Ahri as item dump for Ryze or play around Portal for a strong early game. An early Frying Pan from starting Portal can help a lot, since you can craft the Scholar Emblem with Pan + Tear and gain access to the powerful 6 Scholar trait in late game.
Aim for Level 8 roll down in early Stage 4 and push towards Level 9 after you're stabilized, so you can cap out your board with Morgana/Diana/Milio and potentially 6 Scholar. Items between Morgana and Diana are interchangeable, it depends on who you find/upgrade first.
Mages are currently the strongest and mosted conted comp in Patch 14.20. General gameplan is small stabilizing roll down in Stage 3-2 with Level 6, push for Level 7 in early Stage 4 and slow roll for Veigar*3 and Vex*3 (Nunu*3 optional). Push for Level 8 after, add Taric for Bastion/Portal and replace weaker Mage for Norra.
Aim for 7 Mages in late game with Level 9 or with Mage Emblem.
There are multiple ways you can approach this comp. You can aim for Nomsy Reroll (especially with good Artifacts like Fishbones/Sniper's Focus), you can focus more Shyvana*3 with Level 6 or you can simply use Draconic Mastery as a means to rush for Level 8. If you're skipping Shyvana*3 you can run Nasus as main tank and focus more on Varus/Smolder as your main carries.
If you have Shapeshifter Emblem you can give it to Smolder and aim for 8 Shapeshifter as alternative win condition and play without Varus. This works better if you have Nomsy*3, since she has same item build as Varus anyway.
Faerie received a lot of buffs with Patch 14.18. The patch structure was changed to 3/5/7 and you receive a second Crown with 7 Farie.
You want to open with 5 Faerie and use Tristana as an item dump for Kalista, while Lillia acts as your main tank. Run Shen/Akali/Hecarim for Bastion/Pyro/Warrior as additional filler units. You want to rush for Level 8 in early Stage 4 and find Kalista/Rakan for 5 Faerie with 3 Multistriker + Preservers. Once you're stabilized you can push towards Level 9 and look for either 9 Faerie or cap out board with Legendaries like Millio/Morgana/Camille.
Play strong early game board and maintain high eco so you can rush for Level 8 in early Stage 4. Roll for Arcana units together with Shen/Varus and Preservers. Once you're stabilized you can push towards Level 9 to add Xerath and replace Rakan for Morgana.
High Arcana goes on Tahm Kench, because you're maximizing your traits in this comp and want the HP buff for your entire team in the midgame.
At the start you want to focus on a strong win streak comp like 5 Multistriker so you can rush for Level 8 while saving up your gold. Push for Level 8 in early Stage 4 and look for your Tier 4 units. Once your board is upgraded and stabilized you can push towards Level 9 and add Morgana/Briar to cap out your board.
If you find a Preserver Emblem you can give it to Nasus. You should also look out for some Artifacts like Blighting Jewel, which is the best possible item for Karma.
Open with Multistriker and do small stabilizing roll down in Stage 3-2 with Level 6. Push for Level 7 in early 7 and slow roll for Hecarim 3 Star. Once you have him push Levels 8 and if possible cap out your board with Camille/Xerath.
Make Hecarim your high Arcana, can swap to Xerath true damage in late game if you bought enough charms. Multistriker Emblem usually goes on Shen/Xerath and can give Kalista Pyro Emblem. Hecarim is also very strong with Silvermere Dawn instead of QSS and you can even isolate him in the frontline so the enemy frontline wraps around him.
Works best if you open with Zap Attack Blitzcrank Hero Augment or Upgraded Adventure. Can also commit on this comp if you open with Manazane Ziggs, as this is his best item at the moment. Other Artifacts like Forbidden Idol/Unending/Locket on Blitzcrank are also amazing.
Slow roll for Ziggs/Blitz 3 Star and pick up Ahri/Nunu/Kogmaw on the way. Make Ahri into high Arcana for bonus AP, can swap to Xerath later if you're lacking 3 Star units. This comp performs much better if you have powerful starting Augments like "Upgraded Adventure" or Blitzcrank Hero Augment "Zap Attack".
Once you have your 3 Stars you can push towards Level 7/8 and add more Arcana Units. If you find Honeymancy Emblem you can give it to Hecarim and replace Veigar, unless you find a second one which allows you to play for 7 Honeymancy as your win condition.
Frost/Pyro is a powerful mid game comp to secure yourself a Top 4 placement. It works a lot better if you have access to a Frost Emblem for early 5 / 7 Frost. It also opens up a potential win condition with 9 Frost in late game with a second Emblem.
In early game you want to run 5 Frost with Rumble. Rush for Level 8 if you have a Frost Emblem so you can run 7 Frost without Diana to stabilize your mid game. Can either stay level 8 to secure placement with Hwei*3 and combat charms or push for Level 9 to add Diana and more Pyro.
Push for Level 9 once you finished all of your upgrades or if you have a second Emblem so you can play for 9 Frost win condition.
