I'd suggest focusing on taking objectives and farming CS.
He's hard laner to beat unless you're really far ahead, or you get a jungle gank early on.
He is super tanky, but he shouldn't be able to get close to you.
Dodge the middle of his W to not get hit by true damage.
Kassadin
you can poke him down early as he's immobile. If he's running electrocute play safe and watch out for his all in.
You have superior wave clear so use it to your advantage. Shove him under tower and look for roams if possible. apply pressure to the jungle and your other lanes. use your EW combo to keep him locked in place so he can't engage your team with his R and get massive damage off. After level 6, you won't be able to do anything to him.
Vex
She will delete you if you mess up even the smallest bit. Shove her under tower and go for roams. Help your other lanes get ahead.
Quinn
Long range, hard hitting and extremely mobile. She can kill you easily, especially if you've blown your root.
Illaoi
You can't duel her, she will win. Avoid her E at all costs, trade when it's down, try to stay behind minions and farm for late game.
Cassiopeia
Slows, slows, slows. Counters you quite damn hard since you're insanely immobile and she outranges you with her abilities. Her W and R will keep you slowed. Opt For Banshee Veil in this matchup.
Anivia
Very Strong Champion when laning against ryze, she can zone with her R so be mindful of that.
Yorick
Great at punishing champs without dashes. Avoid his cage or you're likely screwed.
Karma
Avoid her root and engage once it's down.
Her passive reduces ability cooldowns when she attacks
enemy champs, so stay out of her poke range.
Annoying to lane against, but not too much trouble.
Watch her tether, as she may be using it to set a gank up.
Aurelion Sol
It's hard to get close to him. This matchup is just a battle of waveclearing and roaming which he does better. You have the advantage in teamfights however, so be sure to roam on those.
Ahri
Skill matchup depending on if you can dodge or bait her skillshots. She has the upper hand early since her pushing ability is higher.
Azir
Outranges you and outdamages you in the earlygame and lategame.
Camille
Her long dash on E with stun and R that makes you force to fight are two things that you can't do much about it. Try to rush Seeker's Armguard and Plated Steelcaps.
Cho'Gath
If you make one missplay say bye-bye to your healthbar.
Darius
Try to avoid his pull, and kite him. He can decimate you if you get caught, keep your W for escaping, unless you're planning for an all in with your jungler
Ekko
He has decent waveclear and rushes protobelt.
He will try to shield himself as much as he can, and poke you with his Q.
Fiora
You can kite her easily, but make sure not to get poked down.
Watch out for vitals, if she goes for an all in, kite near a wall
Irelia
Can be dangerous with her Q/E dash resets. She will get Wits End to make it easier to win against you in a 1v1. Try to rush Seeker's Armguard and plated steelcaps. to reduce her damage.
Morgana
She can spellshield your cc, use Q and ult you if you ever get too close to keep you in place.
Sylas
Will take short trades and heal it all back up when hes low.
Be sure to dodge his second E, that's most of his damage.
Syndra
She beats everyone in lane.
She won't match you in the sidelanes.
has more range than you and is really good in 1v1's
She has good burst early on, and she can use her CC to keep you from getting any big damage off.
Lissandra
Has more damage, waveclear early and a lot of cc.
take cleanse in this matchup or you might be screwed.
Your teamighting late game is better, liss is more of a burst before I leave again champ.
Malzahar
He does a lot of damage if he can get his resets on you and he has a free spellshield.
Your waveclear is better, use it to your advantage.
Nocturne
If you're out of position, you die, it's as simple as that.
After tiamat, he'll shove waves and roam to help his team.
Vel'Koz
You won't be able to get close to him.
you're gonna have to burn a flash or you're dead (after level 6)
You have better waveclear and Sidelane pressure, use it to your advantage.
Viktor
Viktor has the advantage in lane since he can keep poking you and gain a shield, which you don't have anymore (Rip Seraphs Active)
Orianna
She will poke you a lot since you are a short ranged champion and she has a lot of range.
She also has fairly high damage.
Yasuo
Windwall (W) can stop the majority of your damage, he's extremely mobile and can shred through you easily. Try keep the wave near your tower, kite him and try to avoid his tornados.
Avoid extended trades.
Zed
Not fun to play against, go early seekers and then steelcaps.
Zoe
Your waveclear is superior in the lategame, use that to your advantage.
Gragas
You have better waveclear and hes melee.
He has really good sustain, so poke damage won't be too effective.
Use your superior waveclear to roam.
Vladimir
Avoid him when he has his empowered Q/Flash/Protobelt range after level 6.
You have the upperhand in this lane as you can poke him through the wave.
When he gets close, root him and run away.
Karthus
He shouldn't be able to kill you, unless you get too close to him.
You have better waveclear and teamfighting than him.
Akali
Not the worst matchup for ryze.
Your E will still hit her if she uses shroud inside a minionwave.
After lvl 6, try to dodge her, as her ult could 1 shot you.
Jax
You can poke him early, but avoid his all in.
Heimerdinger
Super annoying to play against.
Just farmup and sidelane, after first tower drops.
He shouldn't match you in the sidelanes.
Don't ask for ganks in lower elos, as it may result in the undesired result.
Olaf
Shouldn't be able to get close to you easily.
You outscale him in terms of DPS, so just farm up and you'll be fine.
Corki
has an escape and decent damage.
Basically an ADC midlane.
He has no CC or waveclear, so you should win the matchup as long as you farm up.
Diana
Hard to play against since Ryze struggles against champions who can force an engage.
Gangplank
He can cleanse your root.
His poke is much better than yours.
Your waveclear is better, but your teamfighting skills are almost identical to gangplanks.
Talon
Pre-6 he isn't that much of a threat since you can dodge his second W .
Applies a lot more pressure than you, and his roaming is also better.
Jayce
Don't get hit by his projectiles when he shoots them out of vision.
Jayce favoured matchup, but if he can't get a lead, he'll fall off really hard.
Katarina
Move away from her daggers and try to burst her in teamfights.
your best option is to shove waves into her tower.
If She dashes on you, use your EWQ combo and kite her out.
Twisted Fate
Has good waveclear and very good map pressure.
His stun is on a lower cooldown than yours is.
Your root won't stop his Ult, but it does stop his TP.
Run cleanse in this matchup.
Gnar
Has a lot of range and he will most likely poke you out of lane.
kite his abilities and you should be fine.
Garen
You won't kill him early game. Don't let him get close to you or you're most likely dead.
Brand
Outdamages you, but always plays forward so you can set up an easy gank.
If you dodge his Q pre-6 you can get close.
Dr. Mundo
You both want to scale so sit back and relax.
Isn't much of a threat but can set up towerdives with his jungler.
Graves
He outpushes and outdamages you early.
he's a better skirmisher, so watch out for his mythic spike.
Galio
Not much of a threat.
You are quite good at escaping when you're not cc'd and you can dodge all of his abilities.
Be careful of his taunt, because its an excellent tool to set up a gank.
Fizz
He's melee so poking him in lane should be easy.
Zone and punish him when he goes in for CS.
Watch out for his all in after level 3.
Early Zhonya or Banshee is a good idea.
Aatrox
He shouldn't be able to get close to you.
He's strong early/midgame. Morello is your friend in this matchup.
Annie
Very vulnerable for ganks, just like you.
Buy MR as she'll kill you later if she lands ult.
Lulu
This is more annoying that it is hard to lane against. She'll just polymorph you and poke before running back into the safety of her tower.
Her early game damage isn't to be underestimated.
Ryze
If you've read this guide, you should already know how to beat this champ.
You're only gonna play against ryze if you're unlucky in the champ select phase.
Rek'Sai
Great early game potential with Ryze.
You root someone and he knocks them up or vice versa.
Jarvan IV
Your E+W into his flag and drag for a free kill.
His Ult is very good for your E-Q.
Viego
Your root into his stun usually nets a free flash or kill.
Yuumi
Gives Adaptive Force, can also help you chase an enemy down or run from one with her speed buffs.
If yuumi continues to get off and then attach herself to ryze, he will regen a small bit of mana. It's most likely an overlooked bug or an intentional feature overlooked by a lot of the community, so use it until riot decides to fix it in a future patch, which is unlikely.
Aatrox
Your E-W combo allows aatrox to W with ease without the enemy escaping and also allows him to land his Q1 and Q2 Knockup.
Anivia
Your E-W combo works well with anivia. Anivia can combo her stun with your root to keep them locked in place and use R to deal large amounts of damage.
Lee Sin
Great Early Game Potential with ryze.
Taliyah
Root into knockup will definitely atleast burn a flash.
She's AP, so if the enemy rushes Verdant Barrier, you're in trouble.
Elise
Same as with taliyah, she's AP. Making the enemy more than likely to rush Verdant barrier.
Morgana
If she hits a Q, you might as well say it's a free kill. They're CC'd for an indefinite amount of time.
Same as with elise and taliyah, the enemy is likely to rush Verdant Barrier.
Graves
You can easily get lane priority to help him with his invades a bit later in the laning phase.
Galio
Great peel with his W, but be careful you don't stack too much AP as a team.
Veigar
Can zone really well with his Cage.
Nautilus
Can hold people in place for you.
Leona
Can hold people in place for you.
Trundle
Can peel for you late game.
Udyr
Very strong early game, play around him and you should get a couple of easy kills.
Warwick
Strong early game jungler.
Root into fear is very strong.
Zac
Can peel for you.
Olaf
Strong early game jungler.
Ryze thrives with junglers like this.
Janna
Can peel for you, but she's not amazing since her damage buffs are AD oriented.
Nami
Can peel for you.
Karma
Can peel for you.
Zilean
Gives speed buffs and has a revive.
The revive is the only important thing as ryze doesn't really need the movement speed.
Ivern
Can peel for you.
Lulu
Can peel better than most other supports.
Taric
Can peel and sustain you granted his Q is up or he can auto something to get reduce ability cooldowns (after using an ability and then auto attacking.)
Blitzcrank
Can peel for you. Also provides some crowd control to keep the enemy in range for ryze to use abilities on.
Rammus
Very poor champ to combo with ryze. Sure, he can tank towers and taunt the enemy out of turret range, but it's still not enough to be worth locking in with a ryze.

I'm an OCE ryze main, i've played ryze since his birth, granted I played poorly before OCE had a server, still, 12 seasons in, and not much has really changed. I have a controversial history, that I have put behind me. I'm not that guy anymore, and i've tried to make myself a more respectable member of the league community. However, sometimes I go a bit too far, as a lot of us do, and I get punished for doing so. I'm trying to change, but it's hard when you've done it for so many years.
HERE'S TO A NEW CHAPTER IN MY LEAGUE CAREER (if that's considered a career)
