Champion Build Guide
Introduction 2 MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
My name is Crugly Bugly. I am a Jarvan main with half a million mastery points. I am currently climbing NA with Jarvan, and my current rank is Gold. I am not a Challenger Jungler nor am I a highly respected or well knwon one, but I believe my knowledge on Jarvan IV holds merit regardless of my rank. I have been playing Jarvan since season 9, and in the time I have been playing League he has become the most proficient champion in my pool of champions. Even among meta Junglers, Jarvan still has viability based on your own skill and knowledge of the game. I have found that any matchup is winnable, and don't ever let matchup statistics put you down from winning that next game. While I am not the best Jarvan in the world, let alone on NA, I like to think my knowledge of the champion is still useful to people wanting to learn or improve at him. Jarvan is by far the easiest Jungler to pick up out of the current roster, but mastering him can be very challenging. In this guide, I hope to spread my knowlege and understanding of Jarvan IV to anyone willing to read. Cheers!
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Jarvan is arguably the easiest Jungler to pick, having the simplest clear and gank combo.
- Jarvan has lots of utility in his abilities. He has a knockup, an armor shred, an AOE attack speed buff, and an unstoppable dash, all in just his E+Q. He has something for everything.
- Jarvan has a large variety of options for runes (read the runes section for more details).
- Jarvan has high burst damage and lots of innate durability.
- Jarvan has a very fast and efficient clear.
- Jarvan has some of the best mobility in the game.
- Jarvan is an incredibly consistent pick into many champions and team compositions.
- Jarvan has lots of variety in item builds.
Cons:
- Jarvan gets invaded really easily.
- Jarvan has low damage after using his combo, being forced to only auto attack.
- Jarvan has low damage without building AD.
- Jarvan can struggle to contest objectives alone.
- Jarvan rarely, if ever, gets buffed or changed.
- Jarvan has extremely limited options for Mythic Items (view items section for more information).
- Jarvan can accidentally kill his entire team if his ult is misused.
Synergies and Bad Matchups
Synergies
Jarvan has high synergy with champions that have lots of AOE damage to compliment his own. Some specific examples include Galio, Katarina, Orianna, and Gangplank. Those are just the ones I thought of off the top of my head, but there are countless other synergies with different champions. Preferrably, Jarvan has the highest synergy with his own team when he has some consistent form of AP damage. This allows for specific itemization to compliment your teammates, and doesn't constrict you to building armor shredding if your team decides it's best if they all go AD.
Bad Matchups
Jarvan has plenty of bad matchups, but how you deal with them is what defines you as Jungler. Not only can you get royally screwed by the enemy Jungler, but there are also countless other champions that make it harder to do your job, even in other roles. Some champions that you might have to approach carefully include Zyra, Rennata, Amumu, Graves, and Camille to name a few. Jarvan has equally as many bad matchups as he does excellent matchups. His versitile kit can restrict a large number of champions, so try to target specific champions that cannot escape your combo or champions that can be immobilized too much to do anything.
