Garen

Garen has always been a strong counterpick to Renekton, his sustain is strong in lane and his silence allows him to chunk you without the chance to trade back which is very problematic on Renekton because most of his damage comes from abilities. The best way I have found to play this lane is to go for early armor and wait out the Garen Q E combo, after his combo ends W him to lock him down for your combo. Note: Doesn't everyone just hate dying to a Garen R with Ignite?

Illaoi

This champion is really annoying to play against in general top lane, she has high poke damage from her E and can do massive damage to multiple targets at level 6 with her R. The best way to play this lane is to go in once she misses her E, however she can still possibly beat you so make sure you know your damage.

Urgot

This is a pretty even match up, but it can strongly go one way depending on income and kills in lane. If Urgot kills you early he will likely be able to accelerate his lead with defensive purchases, so it is very important to dodge his E. At level 6, if you can dodge his E or R there is high kill potential if you play it correctly and have the wave in a good spot. Try to outplay and kill him in lane before he can stack too much armor. You pretty much have to play the first fight perfect in order to not die, but if you can kill him in lane sometimes you will snowball and be able to beat him until later in the game. (around 20-30 minutes)

Aatrox

This is a pretty even matchup, rush Bramble Vest or Executioners to beat him early. I recommend Bramble Vest if the enemy jungle is also AD, giving you more chance to maneuver in a 2 v 1.

Nasus

This matchup requires early aggression, and just like Aatrox I recommend rushing Bramble or Executioner based on the enemy JG. Shove waves in and force Nasus to farm under the turret, then reset the wave to slow push towards you and kill him with full fury. If you can't kill the Nasus because he plays very safe then your main objective is to deny as much gold for Nasus as you can while earning as much as you can for yourself. No matter how well you play Nasus will be able to beat you later once he has enough stacks, so you have to take advantage of his weakness early. If you can't kill Nasus or dive him at least 2 times during laning then chances are that he is going to fairly quickly stack and outscale you in a 1 v 1 situation, so play defensively later if you find yourself in a side lane with him.

Malphite

Malphite can be a tough matchup, spam Q on wave to sustain and try to fight him at level 3 if you can. Be very careful at level 6 and be ready to react with your R.

Irelia

Renekton had been known as an Irelia counter for a while now, and I can agree with that to a certain extent. In this matchup I often take Ignite to reduce the Irelia's early healing, then rush Bramble Vest to create 1 v 1 kill pressure in lane. Renekton excels if he can shut down Irelia's snowball by dominating her in lane. The new Irelia changes made her much more of a nuisance because she has to hit less of her skills to get full stacks, but Renekton can often times use the same strategy as before to take her down and deny her outplay potential.

Olaf

Try to purchase Bramble Vest early especially if the enemy jungle is also AD as this is a major help against Olaf's Q poke and healing from his W. Ignite can assist in this matchup due to Olaf's healing and attack speed when he is low health, but don't be surprised if he can still beat you in a 1 v 1 if you make any mistakes. Olaf can punish you for bad itemization so make sure that if you want to play for lane you build armor.

Gnar

Beware, if the Gnar is good and knows how to play this matchup, it will be very hard for you to farm or find an advantage in lane. A good Gnar will rush Plated Steelcaps especially if you have an AD jungler making it even harder to all in him or even catch up to him with his Hyper procs. Gnar's harass with Grasp makes it annoying to get minions or even walk up at all. Unlike other ranged champions, Gnar can transform into Mega Gnar once his bar fills with high increased stats and CC that often leave Renekton begging for a buff.

Jayce

Jayce can be very annoying to deal with on Renekton, I would reccomend Dorans Shield, Second Wind, or both in this lane due to Jayce's constant poke in ranged form. You can look to all in Jayce, one tip is to use E1 to engage on him, then once he knocks you back use E2 to stick back onto him and combo.

Vayne

Wukong

This matchup I have found to be one of the more moderate ones for Renekton. The key to beating Wukong is waiting for his clone to be on cooldown, then going all in. Make sure to not W the clone otherwise Wukong has a great increase in 1 v 1 kill pressure shortly after.

Akali

Kled

His built in grievous wounds prove to be a challenge, but you can win this matchup if played correctly.

Nocturne

Quinn

If Quinn knows how to press buttons you will likely lose this lane. This champion can mitigate most of Renekton's lane dominance that he relies on so heavily to win lane and snowball.
