Hello and welcome to my guide! I’m Rob, or OB1 Kenobi on League of Legends, and I’m here to present you a Master Guide on climbing the Solo Queue Ladder! I’ve played League since 2016, or Season 6, and have peaked Diamond 2 on the NA Ladder. The game has changed in so many ways since I’ve started playing, but some things have remained the same since the beginning of ranked.
Not So Good Players Don’t Climb Everyone Plays On The Same Ladder And Many Others That Will Be Covered In This Guide! |

I stream almost every day! If there's anything I can help you with or if you'd like to come say hi, you can either watch me live from here or come directly to my channel. Either way, thanks for being here! https://www.twitch.tv/ReprogramRob |

League of Legends is hands-down one the best MOBA's ever made, and I've enjoyed countless hours playing this game. Whether you like it or not, League's impact on the e-sports industry and the world has changed the game forever.
With that said, I'm unable to say the same about the community of gamers that play it.

That particular fact is something that commonly overshadows just how great this game is. Because this game is F2P (Free To Play), starting an account or acquiring an account (we'll get into that later) is easy to do and places little value on the game for some.
We've touched a little bit about the game, and a fraction of the sentiment towards the game because of other people. so lets move forward to the Company behind League of Legends to get a better understanding of the environment you're playing in and the guiding principles from it's creators.
Riot Games.
Accept and understand that Riot Games is not here to create the most balanced game in existence, or ensure the highest quality of life when it comes to supporting the state of the game in terms of other players.
Riot Games is here to make money, and push profit margins. They dont care about your feelings, or about how you feel about other players or the game itself.
I'm revealing this to you so you can ingrain within you a saying that will be commonly mentioned in this guide, and will save you all the stress I and many others have gone through before realizing Riot Games for who they are.
"Focus On Yourself"

LEVEL 1-30 - If you’re Unranked, or in Provisionals, then the chances are you’ve just turned level 30 or are leveling, and have never stepped foot in a ranked match. This is as low as it gets in the LoL ranks. You're likely getting your footing in the game and learning what champions and items do. Reality - If you’re in this division, you're likely not new to League of Legends and are leveling another account since you've banned your last one or are feeling hardstuck in low elo on main account. Ready and willing to call yourself a "Smurf" to actual new players to make yourself feel better about how bad you might actually be. If you're actually new, ignore this portion. :) |

IRON - 4.01% - Iron has a remarkably low population. This is where the worst of the worst players end up, and you might have a difficult time climbing out. That being said, Iron players are generally less salty than Bronze ones. In my opinion, this is because people in Bronze are fighting for something, and have something to lose. Reality - If you’re in this division, you're likely losing your initial provisional games after hitting level 30, demoted from Bronze after getting highly unlucky, or youre toxic and you've inted/ran down your account to this elo "for fun" when youre actually miserable and want to ruin other people's games. |

BRONZE - 11.78% - Bronze division is the second lowest possible division in the League of Legends ranks. Within the 4 Bronze divisions, a massive percentage of all ranked players fall into this category, more than 1 in every 10 players out there is likely to be Bronze. Reality - The reason most people end up in Bronze league is primarily down to the ranking system. If a brand new account wins all 10 of their placement matches, then there's a really high chance they'll still get put in Bronze. If you're lucky to end up in a higher than average MMR game, you'll finish Silver 4 with 10 straight provisional wins. Not high enough to be rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Likely very new to the game, and do not know what every champ/item does. |

SILVER - 46.73% - With a distribution of 46.73% of all ranked players, almost half of the player base is in this rank. It's also worth noting that over the last couple of years, the population of Bronze used to be almost half of all players instead of Silver. There's a few theories as to why this could be happening, but Riot Games wants you to be optimistic and think people are just getting better at the game. Reality - Silver division will still be full of bad players. On a scale from 1 to 10 in terms of being good at the game, you're around a 1. You know what a champion does and you know what items do. Welcome to the start of your journey. |

GOLD - 30.15% - For many players in League of Legends this is the division they want to be in by the end of the ranked season. Gold division is the lowest division in which you will receive all of the end of season rewards. Any player who finishes the Season in Gold division or above receives a fancy summoner icon, banner trim, loading screen border and the sought after Victorious skin. Reality - You're likely to be flexing on Silver players because you're no longer Silver, but you're just the winner of bad games. This is where Riot Games wants you to be content with being, which is why the fabled Victorious skins are awarded here, making you feel good about yourself. However, on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of being good at the game, you've broken out of the 1 and hit the 2. To be fair to the entire rank of gold, this can range from 2 to 3 based on if youre Gold 4 or Gold 1. |

PLATINUM - 9.00% - Platinum division is a respectable division in the League of Legends ranks and if you’re currently in it then you should be proud - especially when you consider that you're better than 90%+ of the people out there in your region! Reality - Platinum is where the super basic levels of competency begins. You've managed a wave or two, you know your match ups even if you cant win them every time, you've found a streamer or two to learn from, and are likely flexing on gold players. You still have so much to learn, but at least, you've learned the bare minimum to call yourself a player. Platinum is relatively the same until you get to Plat 1. On a scale from 1 to 10 in terms of being good, honestly, 3-4 depending if youre Plat 4 to 2, or a 5 if you're Plat 1. |

DIAMOND - 1.75% - With a distribution of 1.75%, we’re starting to get into the high tiers. If you’re in this division then good job, you must have some serious skills and should consider streaming. For many competitive players, Diamond division is their ultimate goal. This is the real Victorious Rank. Reality - There are only a few possibilities as to why you are here. You either got an account boosted with someone else playing on it, duo'd with a better player, bought the account off eBay or PlayerAuctions, OR....by some chance, you worked tirelessly through it all and made it. Congrats. If you've reached this rank by your own merit and not on the back of someone else's efforts, you've completed the minimum necessary fundamentals in order to call yourself a good player. On a scale from 1 to 10 in terms of being good at the game, there's two answers to this. If you're between Diamond 4 and 2, you're likely between 5-6. If you're D1, you can consider yourself 6.5-7 depending on why you're D1. Accept that you're still not VERY good at this game, and read on. You're good, but not THAT good. |

MASTER - 0.006% - If you thought the other divisions were hard to get into, then think again. With a distribution of only 0.006% this means that only 1 in every 6,000 players make it to Master division. Reality - Skipping past the boosts, purchased account talks...if you're a Master Tier Player, first off, you're better than me! You've got a firm grasp on the major concepts of the game, and were able to hone your mental to a point where you can tolerate the clash of egos within Diamond. On a scale from 1 to 10 in terms of being good, you're a solid 7.8 depending on where youre at on the ladder. Good stuff, but you're still a meme to the players at the top of the ladder. |

GRANDMASTER - 0.004% - This is where you get to start playing with the big boys. If you've managed to make it this far, then you've got a pretty decent chance of being scouted out by a pro eSports team! This means that you could - potentially - be playing alongside some of your favorite famous players! Of course, you've still got one hell of a climb before you reach the summit of Challenger. Reality - Reaching Grandmaster requires you to fine tune the skills and knowledge that got you to Master. Do yourself a favor and find a duo of similar skill. You're less likely to lose a game by 20% due to player's AFK/RQ'ing. This is in-part because people at this elo know how to end games with the advantages in their hands. This is something that most of the player base doesnt know how to do (including me). How, when and where to push the advantages you have to end the game. Many players in the upper echelon of this rank easily have the potentially to be Challenger. The other not so talked about fact is that reaching Grandmaster only requires you to win around one divisions worth of LP, instead of one Tier, in order to achieve it. And without completing promos! For example, the same 100'ish LP it would require you to have in order to get from P4 0 LP to P3 Promos, you can go from Master Tier to Grandmaster! Earlier in the season, it was 50! Easily considered an 8 out of 10 player. ![]() |

CHALLENGER - 0.0001% - With spaces limited to 300 people per server region, Challenger is by far the hardest division to get into. Considering only 3 in every 20,000 players are currently in it, if you’ve made it to Challenger then you could possibly try out for a professional eSports team. Congrats, you've reached the pinnacle of the solo queue ladder! Reality - You're Challenger, and can improve even further by going Pro. Or make a lot of money boosting 1600 game Platinum players or helping bad Diamond players prevent demote. Either way, you've got a lot of clout going for you that can be flexed for personal gain. Impervious to critique by lower tiered players unless you duo-abused your way from Master/GM and can't solo maintain your rank. Challengers can easily be rated 9 out of 10. Always room for improvement to go Pro. ;) |

Smurfing is a double-edged sword with more weighted negatives than positives, depending on which side of the aisle you're standing in. If you're smurfing on a fresh account and you're a Platinum 1 Rated player, you're more likely to win the majority of your games in every elo below Platinum. Players who smurf are still likely to have issues climbing when they reach their main accounts peak. This is why Gold/Low Plat rated players aren't necessarily able to consider themselves smurfs when theyre on a new account because of the skill level associated with their main account being so similar to a new account's skill rating. They're just not that much better than a new player in terms of understanding + carrying a game. :/ Another major positive of smurfing includes having a fresh MMR and fresh stats associated on an account. If you've spent 500 games learning how to play, and you've only garnered yourself a very mediocre win rate of 52%, your MMR wont be as good as an account with a 65% win rate after climbing close to your peak. |
Smurfing actually hurts the ranked experience more than it helps for several reasons. Its hard to get an accurate gauge of how well youre doing in your elo when youre going against someone who's smurfing from a higher tier. Losing to a Diamond Tier player as a Silver-rated player, in a Silver-rated game, it's hard for a player to gauge their performance in that game. Better players smurfing in the lower elos essentially make those games unplayable for the players in that elo, ruining the ranked experience for those players. Not everyone who smurfs does it with the best intentions. Many people make (or purchase) fresh accounts with the purpose of ruining the gaming experience for others. I feel like I dont need to go too far into this, as you've likely experienced this in your games at some point. And guess what? Because theyre on a smurf or alternate account, no punishment will befall their main account, so they dont care. The ladder becomes a lot more saturated with players having 2-3 accounts outside of their main. Even though opgg reports around 2 Million Unique players currently play League of Legends in Season 10 in North America, the number is more along the lines of half that number. I myself have leveled (and acquired) over 20 accounts. I'm sure some of you can relate. I know Top Tier players with double that, not to mention the boosters and their companies. (Topic Covered Soon!) Remember, no matter what happens in your games... Focus On Yourself!
