INTRO

Hello everyone! Welcome to my guide to playing Ryze. I've been playing Ryze since the start of season 4 and have seen just about every iteration of his kit. Right now, I would say that Ryze is pretty good; and, with time, patience - and most importantly - practice, you will find yourself climbing in no time!

RUNES - Keystones

As of 7.22, Summon Aery is possibly the most broken and problematic keystone this patch. It's reliable, works well in just about every situation, and is very flexible. Easily Ryze's best keystone.

As soon as Summon Aery gets nerfed I'm going to start experimenting more with this keystone. It's actually quite easy to hit if you're able to land a quick Spell Flux into Rune Prison. It's not bad at all.

This keystone is quite comparable to Storm Raider's Surge. While slightly different, you can still proc it fairly easily; however, there are some better options at the moment. If you really want to take it, it can still work though!

RUNES (Continued)

Sorcery Path

Right now, Manaflow Band is the best rune for us here, unless you need Nullifying Orb in a matchup you're uncomfortable with. The Ultimate Hat is ok; however, at 45% CDR our ulti is already low at a 66 seconds.

In my experimentation, I find that Celerity is much better than Transcendence UNLESS you're taking stopwatch over Magical Footwear. Absolute Focus can work but I find it somewhat unreliable.

For this last rune, I like to take Scorch. It helps in early trading since we don't get much damage until after around 15-20 minutes. Waterwalking is useless for us, and Gathering Storm isn't that great until late game.

Inspiration Path

Free boots! We need to save as much gold as possible as Ryze to get to our core items as quickly as possible. 300 gold is a pretty big deal!

We want as much CDR as possible on Ryze and this allows us to hit 45% to cast as many spells as possible. The active item part is somewhat helpful if you intend to build Hourglass and I believe this stacks with Perfect Timing as well.
