Zac and Nunu will go together for this one. To put it simply, Viego cannot beat tanks. Unless the game is ended pre 20, your chances of winning start to spiral down tremendously. Nunu and Zac have too much team fighting ability and lockdown without needing to burn flash. I recommend banning these champions to avoid having a bad game.
Nautilus
This goes for all the tanks listed below. High CC works very well with viego. You want to be able to land a guaranteed full combo via CC, and these support champions provide so much for viego.

Champion Build Guide
My name is Retro (DariusOrInting), and I'm a Viego fanatic. I've been on the viego subreddit here and there, and I love playing League of Legends. I'm currently Diamond IV in Ranked Solo/Duo, with a peak MMR of Diamond II/I.
In around 2 years, I am going to major in premed, then eventually go into neuroscience.
My Youtube Channel (I'm going to start posting lots of league stuff next season, stay tuned for an ap mantheon adventure 😏): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm6pkQW6X-KFMsCcSBcpHVw
Also this stuff is just my personal preference, if you clicked on this guide for no reason then why are u even here
Ideally as Viego mid, you want to let the first wave push into you, so you can push it back at level 2. This does not mean you let your laner get free pokey pokeys on you, as well as letting them get free cs. You want to look to all-in all laners at level 3, (except champions listed as tier 5 counter to viego that I put in the threat page). Against ap mage matchups such as viktor or orianna, use your e into the wave. This plays a sort of mind game trick on the enemy, as they have to both determine where you are in the mist, and decide how to cs while you're in camoflauge. Viegos' strength in mid-lane comes from roaming, so after getting 6 and pushing in waves, I recommend roaming to lanes that are pushed or need help.
I like to take the leash on bot primarily because I want to influence top a bit more than I like to influence bot. It's also easier to do a full clear granted you have a bot leash.
I fully clear almost 99% of the time on Viego Jungle, because I want to prioritize having level 4 for a potential scuttle fight. Although scuttle exp got nerfed, fights still happen around scuttle.
You need to be ballsy when you play Viego jungle; the best way to improve is to get out of your comfort-zone to play very very aggressive. I recommend playing some normal games to understand your limits, as well as understanding when to invade. Personally, I like playing opposite side of enemy jungler so I can powerfarm their jungle while they are influencing other lanes. Letting your lanes play weakside is essential to playing the map when the enemy jungler is ganking.
Here's a vid of me doing the fastest clear possible right now as of Patch 11.23
Sorry for no sound, I forgot to enable it on shadowplay recording.

Possession is the single-most hardest concept to grasp about Viego, so I'll make this chapter a bit lengthy.
I'll go into the actual mechanic of the possession if you're a viewer that actually doesn't know how it works.
Think of his possession as temporary trading of stats, except the person ur trading with doesn't receive anything. The reason why this is important is because you need to understand exactly WHEN to possess during a teamfight. Because you're trading stats AND items with the possessed figure, you need to evaluate the situation of the teamfight before possessing. For instance, you just flash and killed the enemy senna in the middle of the team fight. You're in between 2 tanks and an assassin, do you possess? Obviously, the answer is no. But it's easier said than done. In the heat of the moment, you will just spam-click the possessed figure to have that brief moment of invulnerability. Another scenario is this:
Imagine you're ganking mid, and the enemy jungler was absolutely genius and return ganked the mid laner. You didn't use w to kill the mid laner (zed), but your mid laner is getting run down and is at 25% health against an enemy nocturne. Do you possess zed? The answer is again; no. Viego's possession niche requires lots of quick-thinking during the teamfight. A way to evaluate possession as a whole is to just look at team composition at the beginning of the game.
Let's take an example scenario of a team composition:
Allied Team (In lane order): Mordekaiser, Viego, Yasuo, Kog'maw, Lulu.
Enemy Team: Malphite, Kayn, Orianna, Vayne, Nami.
Let's think about who we want to possess right now.
Ideally, we want to steal kayn, malphite in every teamfight. Kayn is slippery via his e, which will allow ourselves to reposition ourselves after possession, and we want malphite because, well, malphite is a tank and we want those.
However, this should NOT deter you from stealing adcs and supports in a team fight. There will always be a window of opportunity for you to steal adcs, but ideally, you want to steal a tank.
Now that the basic possession guide is taken care of, let's just list a few champions that are really good to possess in any circumstance.
Karthus: You retain his passive while possessed, you can just die and still cast abilities
Sion: Same as above and you're tanky. Nice damage through sion passive, it's like a reassurance.
Lulu: One of the few support champions I will actually take. Lulu is known to be slippery, and for a good reason. Reliable CC and shielding, plus movement speed buff.
Any tank: I don't need to explain the reasoning here, having a tank as viego is the ideal scenario, and you should always look to steal them in teamfights (but don't focus them).
Samira: Good adc to steal in the heat of the moment. Can easily get out with her e, and has good damage / sustain, especially with shieldbow (you retain items that champions had.)
Zed: Good tools to escape the teamfight, then instantly re-engage. Useful for burst then immediately using viego ult to assassinate a target.
Viktor: The champion is just so broken that there's no way you don't want to steal him. You will retain his crown of the shattered queen, which will help you live the entire cooldown duration of your ultimate reset.
There's a few more, but you get the gist of the possession guide.
