death cap is fail in dominion. to expensive that early on. and it dont help as much. just from looking at this u can tell its a slow build. anything involving deathcap as one first 2 items always is.
I strongly encourage you to try it instead of judging it "just from looking at this". The deathcap makes you hit like a truck, and if you buy the items in order you have the deathcap right around the time you hit level 11. Your ulti is beastly at that point.
I built similar to this on my last dominion, though added rylai's cause i like them slows.
Started boots and 2 tomes. Got WotA, then ionian boots. Morello's followed, then rylai's scepter. I tried going for deathcap at the end, but they surrendered >.<
game ended with my pretty Ahri in 1st with 17/5/14, and 7 cap/1 assist/2 neutralize.
opponents were: rammus, ezreal, cassiopea, mordekaiser, and Yi
You didnt feel underpowered without the deathcap? I tried building WofA, Morellos, Deathcap but I didnt feel like i did enough damage until late game. I mean, the score speaks for itself of course, but...
work harder young jedi and perhaps i will +1 you ;)

As far as defending a tower from 3 people, it definitely is a challenge and definitely doesnt always work. A lot of the time if you ulti properly (ie hitting all three people three times while jumping back and forth over the terrain from the tower to the health pack) while spamming your other spells, you can get them to either overcommit on your tower or just give up. The point of a 3v1 is generally to waste enough time that your reinforcements can get there and mop up. Just stay up in the bush until they start capping, then disrupt them and run away. You have enough AOE and multiple target spells that they shouldnt be able to take it while you're alive. They'll eventually (immediately?) send one or more people up into the bush to deal with you. Run away from them around the terrain and onto the tower and disrupt anyone who started capping again. As soon as they go to dive you, start ulti-ing. Go back and forth over the terrain, but play it risky. You need them to be close to you to take the hits, and to make them think that they can get you so they keep chasing. Map awareness is key too, you need to make sure that they're down by the jungle when your friends come in for the best element of surprise advantage.
I'm gonna play a lot of blind picks with some of our new members today, I'll see if I can catch a video of what Im talking about to post here.
At first I wanted to build Ahri straight AP melter (like a leblanc or the like), but I dont think thats where the champion's true strengths lie. In my opinion, because of the fact that Ahri has so many AOE or multiple target spells, her AP ratios just arent high enough to justify getting only AP. My first build on her was Arkangel's Staff, Sorcerer's Shoes, Rabadon Deathcap, Void Staff. It was cool being able to do a little more damage, but i found that I just got focused down too quickly. Building straight AP leaves you incredibly vulnerable when your kit is on cooldown. With this build you're much more sustainable, and while you'll never get that awesome satisfaction of killing a carry in half a second, its just as fun (and more beneficial to your team's objectives, I think) to be able to hold three people off a tower, or win a 2v1 in the jungle and get away clean.
In the end, I think a build is more personalized towards the player than the champion. For example, I get Ionian Boots of Lucidity on almost every caster because my personal playstyle is to cast more spells as a pose to better ones. If that doesn't work for you, by all means do what works.
You said you normally get two staffs before going for the Deathcap. Are you referring to Arkangel's Staff/Void Staff? Two of one of those? Neither?
True true I understand exactly where you come from. Sometimes I will just get insta deathed because I get targetd. I dunno I just feel like she never does enough damage by herself. And to ask how do you defend 3 v 1 tower when your the one defending. When that happens they just come and kill me off lol.
To answer your question the two staffs I talked about were actually like rods but they were rod of ages and rylai's crystal haha :)
