NOT UPDATED FOR Season 12
EVERYTHING ABOVE HAS BEEN UPDATED FOR SEASON 12

EVERYTHING BELOW THIS POINT HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR SEASON 12

I am updating one guide a week for the next 10 weeks. If this message is not at the top of the guide then it has been updated
Intro
I am Doglightning an grandmaster Neeko Support main. I have made it my goal to play off meta supports in high elo. Some of my picks are a bit troll but I think I have proven that Ivern, Neeko, Anivia, Zac and Taliyah are viable and I play them in Grandmasters. This guide is on Vex support. I am not sure how high an elo she is playable as support but I know for a fact that she is a supportable champ so lets have fun. :)
Please check out my twitch it really helps support me in making content like this:
Pros & Cons
PROS

+ Good base damage
+ Decent CC
+ Great Engage Potential
+ Good Counter Engage
+ Can Cancel Dashes
+ Has self Peel
CONS

- Low range
- Long CD on fear
- Easy to dodge Skill Shots
- Doesn't offer much for team
- Bad vision control
Summoner Spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: This is an mandatory summoner spell. After using Shadow Surge to go in Flash into Personal Space can be a good engage tool.
IGNITE: Ignite is a direct counter to Heal which almost every adc takes so be sure to use it before the enemy Heals for some early kills. In teamfights put it on whoever is getting the most healing.
EXHAUST: I usually only run Exhaust into Tristana and Yasuo because of their ability to hard engage lvl 2 and snowball. If you struggle vs assassins then this is also a fine option.

Runes

DOMINATION

Electrocute synergizes with Vex because she is a burst mage. Usually you are looking to hit a poke combo of Looming Darkness> Mistral Bolt into an aa or you are counter engaging with the same combo but ending with a Looming Darkness. Both these combos will proc Electrocute and make this rune very good on her.

Dark Harvest is a ok rune but I'm not a fan personally of it. You can take this over Electrocute into poke lanes if you aren't comfortable getting the aa off in the combo and want to just sit back safely and use spells.
Imo Vex is a burst mage and not a poke mage making Cheap Shot really good for when you are ready to unload your combo on the enemy.

Taste of Blood is good if you are vs a poke lane for some extra sustain but in general since Vex isn't a poke champ you won't get as much value on this rune as other mages would.

I run Zombie Ward because the late game vision control it gives is insane but I think it's only better in diamond+ elo as it requires the enemy to actually ward which lower elo supports don't really do that well.

Ghost Poro is better in low elos because for one the enemy is less likely to sweep wards making it easier to stack compared to higher elo where they enemy is constantly sweeping wards before you can convert them into powos.
Relentless Hunter my fav rune for any support. moves peed lets you roam and ward more efficiently and idc I'm running this on everyone.
Second Wind is a great choice if vs a poke lane to keep you sustained and healthy.

Perfect Timing is great because I like to rush Zhonya's Hourglass and this will let your back and get more ap rather then backing for the early Stopwatch
Overgrowth later in the game will give about 150hp making you tankier so you don't die when you ult into the enemy team.

Biscuit Delivery is a great mana sustain tool. It restores 10% of you MISSING MANA pool so only use this when your run out of mana to get maximum efficiency out of it
These are just standard mage minor runes :)
Abilities
PASSIVE
ABILITY
Doom 'n Gloom (Passive): Doom 'n Gloom has 2 parts.
DOOM: Vex has a bar under her mana bar on her nameplate. When this bar turns red her next spell will fear enemies.
This is the most important part of her kit. Managing her fear will be very important.

GLOOM: is less important to focus on but basically if an enemy dashes or you hit an Looming Darkness the enemy gets a stack of gloom. If you auto or hit a target with gloom they take a burst of dmg and reduces the cd on doom
Q
Mistral Bolt (Q): This is Vex poke spell. The first half moves very slow giving the enemy time to react and dodge it. The second half moves very fast. A trick is to use the spell in the bush so the enemy doesn't see the slow part of the spell making it harder for them to react to it.

W
Personal Space (W): Personal Space does an AoE circle of damage around her and gives herself a shield. This is how you protect yourself from dying if the enemy trys to all in you. Also if you combo this with her ult Shadow Surge you can dash in and AoE fear the enemy with Doom 'n Gloom
E
Looming Darkness (E): Looming Darkness is a ranged AoE burst slow that puts a gloom stack from Doom 'n Gloom on the enemy. This will be your primary spell to set up your combo as its much more reliable to hit then her q. You start with a Looming Darkness to proc Doom 'n Gloom's fear. This will allow you to hit a guaranteed Mistral Bolt which will then consumed the gloom stack and reduce the cd on your next fear.

R
Shadow Surge (R): if you ever played Kai'Sa then Vex ult is very similar to her W and R combo. On first cast vex shoots a projectile that if hits a enemy marks them. On recast Vex flies at them into melee range. If Vex kills them she gets a reset and can do it again on someone else. If you combo Vex ult Shadow Surge with her fear on Personal Space you can make some crazy engages that will feel very similar to Neeko

Vs Range Supports it's worth walking in and getting a auto attack off to proc gloom on your
Looming Darkness. You will take more dmg then the auto will do. Since this is the case I
start Mistral Bolt so I can safely poke from range. At level 2 I get Looming Darkness so
I can Looming Darkness> Mistral Bolt to proc my gloom without having to auto attack.

vs Melee supports I start Looming Darkness since I can safely get my auto attack off to proc
gloom for more overall damage then Mistral Bolt would provide. At lvl 2 you can take
Mistral Bolt but I prefer Personal Space to try and reduce the engage potential of the
enemy support onto me.
Items

Starting Items

  • This is your go too if in a lane where you can constantly poke the enemy.
  • Into lanes that the enemy can more efficiently poke then you can and you would rather sit back and play a more passive style
  • Give you more burst to one shot enemies babaHype

Core Items

  • I rush Zhonya's Hourglass because it lets me hard engage with ult into AoE fear zhonyas so my team can follow up
  • Under rater item. Your E can AoE proc it and if fear is up your Q and W can also AoE proc it. Since I get it 2nd I have 2 mythics stacks so the bonus gives 30 ap. That means as a 2nd item it gives 70ap for 2500g just a really good spike item imo.
  • Since I like to play as an engager this is great. I get tankier and I give my whole team a 15% dmg amp to follow up on
  • for 1100g this item spikes way to hard and I get it at lvl 13 every game on every support champ

Substitute Items

  • Great replacement to Imperial Mandate as it allows you to cc chain longer off your engage and gives great stats also. I prefer mandate cuz I'm high elo ego player who needs cheap item spikes but in lower elos that games go later and you have more gold this item is great!
  • will give you great burst and better poke. Also if you engage that move speed boost will be nice. Might struggle with the mana a bit but again like with everfrost this is a good lower elo item as you have more income and games go later than they do in my elo.
  • If the enemy team is stacking MR and you are trying to be a big damage source then Void Staff is a must as it greatly increases your damage potential.
  • If enemy team has lots of healing and no one on your team will get anti heal then get this item. It gives HP which is great for her and you can always sit on the oblivion orb if you want.
  • Great item to block key skillshots like a blitz hook or a nidalee spear. I like abyssal mask better but this is still a great MR item if you need some.
  • Great stats cdr hp ap and movespeed. All around great item. Not really a specific comp you need this is or vs but if you like having more spells to cast and move speed this is a great item to split into your build. For instance you could replace wardstone with this
