Champion Build Guide
Disclaimer: I don't think there is any one 'correct' way to play a champion, all of this is based off my personal experience playing Gnar and what I found to work best for me. There are so many possibilities considering runes, item choice, and play style, so what works for me might not work for others, and that's okay! My goal is simply to share what I've found to work for me when playing Gnar, and hopefully this guide will find its' way to someone else who likes it! Criticism and feedback is also always welcome, as I am open to trying new things in terms of runes and builds. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this guide and find it useful in some way :)
A very good question indeed. While Gnar is not always a viable option in bot lane, he can be an amazing ADC if played right, and if not in a matchup where he's hard countered. The range his mini form gives him is what makes him even somewhat viable in the first place, since his mega form alone is far too close-ranged and slow to be able to be an effective ADC. As to why, the answer is mostly just for fun. When you do well you'll be able to destroy the enemy bot lane, bouncing off the top of their heads just to end up in front of them and erase them with your Q.
DISCLAIMER: Is Gnar always a good pick for ADC? No, definitely not. He CAN be good in bot lane, but that doesn't mean that he always is. I mainly recommend not locking in Gnar if you're first pick, it's better for you if the enemy ADC picks first so that you can see if the matchup is winnable or not.
Your passive is of course what allows you to to build up rage and turn into mega Gnar. This can be super useful for engages, giving you more health so that you can last longer in fights.
-your hop (E) allows for quick engages or escapes when needed, and is good for chasing down fleeing enemies
-building lethality allows you to do a surprising amount of damage of damage
-enemy team will not take you seriously in the begining, expecting you to do bad, and will let their gaurd down
-mega form will make you tankier allowing you to last longer in fights with enemy bot lane, and will reset your ability cooldowns upon transforming
-mega form may also cause enemy bot lane to back off if they're afraid of you
-early game you won't do a ton of damage
-mega form is slow and easy to chase down if you don't have R or flash
-you will either do really well or really poorly depending on the matchup
-if you do bad your team will flame you
-if you do well bot lane will likely be camped
When in mini form, your best combo is going to be a few autos, Q, more autos, E, and then some more autos again. If your target is running away, you could do E, Q, and then autos instead. Either way, electrocute will proc with your 3rd ability and add some additional damage.
Best combo (mega Gnar)
As you're transforming into mega gnar, use your E to get in close to the enemy and bounce off their head, landing in front of them, then after you transform stun them with your W. Before they are not stunned anymore, use your R to push them back in the direction they were running from, which will proc electrocute, and then finish it off with Q and some autos if needed. If you don't get to engage before you transform that's okay, since either way your E will get you up close to them, you will just need to go around them if you want to push them back into your support or the rest of your team.
Other
-use Q to secure cannons or get minions from a safe distance
-E can be used to chase fleeing enemies or to escape from fights when needed
-use E to hop over the back of dragon/baron pit to steal objectives (if you have flash, save that for escaping)
