Champion Build Guide

S13 Gnar Guide (WIP)

By a1a7s45
Introduction and about me

Hi. I'm a1a7s45 or a1 for short. I'm a Gnar main from Ireland. I have Mastery 7 and over 300,000 mastery points so I know Gnar well. This game is supposed to be hard for me but it's really fun. Plus, I'm autistic. I'm not really creative but figuring out some new builds for Gnar and for other champs like Ekko and Kled always interested me. I'm here to teach you about my favorite champion in the game. Gnar, the Missing Link.

Why did I start playing League and Gnar?

I started playing in late May. I was looking for games to play while Covid was at its worst so I picked up this game and haven't stopped playing since. Another bonus is that it's on PC so I finally have a reason to play my PC now. Now onto the second part of the question. Why did I pick up Gnar? I was playing Teemo at first and I saw some cute and....weird pictures of him and Gnar and thought this little guy looks cute. Who is he? Then I got obsessed over him because Gnar is so cool. He's a yordle so that makes him ten times more cute plus he's from a caveman era so his naivety and innocence made me fall for him. He deserves more lore and I'm even making a few stories myself on Wattpad. One is my own continuation after he broke out of the ice and the other one is a *****how. It's a really cringy fanfic. Aside from that, Gnar could fill a lot of roles. He can be a bruiser, a fighter, a CC specialist, a split pushing menace and a tank. The versatility made him seem fun and interesting from the one dimensional champs like Darius and Yorick .

What makes my builds different from other guides?

For one, I don't really use Grasp that often but whenever I'm in a matchup I don't know very well or one I have a difficult time in, I default to it. Like in the guide, I have four keystones that work. Grasp of the Undying, Fleet Footwork, Phase Rush and Hail of Blade. Out of those four, Phase Rush is by far my favorite keystone. The speed boost can save your life. Fleet I use for sustain and Hail of Blades I don't use that often but Phase Rush hits different. It should be viable on him at least. That's just the runes. Items are a whole other story. I didn't use Stridebreaker at all until I got a penta with it. I used Divine Sunderer and Trinity Force. Fun fact. Did you know that Trinity Force was the go to mythic and Fleet was the go to keystone when pre season first dropped? I wanna try it again some time and see if it's still good. I have many different builds. From potent offence to straight tank, you'll find a build for your needs right here. Plus if you're not sure about some of the items, I have alternatives listed. Gnar can use almost anything well. Hell you could even build a bit of AP and still do well. I used to build Nashor's Tooth and Liandry's Torment and it was really fun.

Is there any way to ask me questions apart from here?

Yes. I'm in a lot of Discord severs like Mr Popper's server, Thing in the Ice's server and the Gnar Main server. Just ping me and I'll be happy to answer anything. Plus I stream as well. There's a link in my profile so you can watch me on Twitch and drop a follow if you want to. It would mean the world to me.

When do I stream?

I'm not really consistent because school gets in the way. Over the summer, I'll stream more often. I'm not sure how long I do stream for most of the time but it's a while at least. I usually play ranked on stream but I lose a lot of my games while streaming but on the other hand, I win a lot off stream. Even so, it's still nice to talk to the chat (when people actually watch my streams) about League and life in general.

What are my summoner names and Discord name?

On NA my name is Pool Party Gnar. On EUW my name is a1a7s. My Discord name is a1a7s45#0633. Feel free to add me and tell me sent you.

Do I enjoy any other champions apart from Gnar?

Well obviously yes. What am I supposed to do when my main man gets banned? Cry about it? I do get a bit upset but I play Kled, Malphite when I'm Top. Whenever I'm in the JG, I play Warwick and Ekko. Warwick is really simple while on the other hand Ekko is complex and fun. Plus both of their mobility is amazing. Ekko can burst targets down which I find really satisfying and rewarding. Whenever I'm mid, I play Ekko again BC he can mid too and Ziggs. His range is something else. He requires a lot of pinpoint accuracy which is entertaining. Whenever I'm ADC, I play everyone's favorite void puppy, Kog'Maw. I know you're supposed to build crit but I've been finding AP Kog is pog. Twitch is another fun ADC. He has actual surviveablility in his stealth and he's easy to play. Jhin is fun too. The amount of damage one shot can do once you get a few items. Finally, I play Blitz, Thresh, Pyke and Brand whenever I want to support. The first two have hooks while the other just pump damage. Pyke is the one I play the most because he has a lot of CC while having a **** ton of damage. But I do want to learn the following people really well: Amumu, Azir, Bard, Blitzcrank, Camille, Dr. Mundo, Draven, Ekko, Ezreal, Fiddlesticks, Fizz, Jax, Kayn, Kennen, Kled, Kog'Maw, Malphite, Maokai, Nasus, Ornn, Pyke, Seraphine, Sylas, Teemo, Thresh, Tristana, Twitch, Udyr, Veigar, Ziggs, Volibear, Warwick, Zac and Ziggs. I want to learn them because either their kit seems fun and interesting like Jax and or they're in the meta at the moment.

Who are your top bans and why?

I have so many top bans that it's impossible to choose just one. But if you want my bans for each role, top lane is Darius, Illaoi and Kayle in that order, jungle is Shaco Rek'sai and Nocturne, mid lane it's Vladimir, Malzahar, Yasuo and Yone, bot lane is Varus, Vayne, Kalista and Senna and last but not least support is Morgana, Leona and Senna again. I ban these because they're super oppressive like Illaoi, Rek'sai, Malazahr, Vayne and Morgana or they make me want to hang myself like Darius, Shaco, Vladimir, Varus and Leona. Some scale to ridiculous levels like Kayle so I prevent them from even showing up in the first place so I don't go Mega mode but I have a few tips and tricks for everyone I've played against so don't worry, I took the pain for you guys so you don't pull your hair. Some of the bans are agreeable but some are severely questionable. I list why in the match ups and if they're a good ban or not IN MY OPINION BASED ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THEM.
