Mafia Graves

Hey guys, I am a Jungle only player on the EUW server who is currently in diamond 4. I have around 4000 hours played so I have a slight idea on how to play the game.

Graves is my all-time favourite champion in League of Legends due to his badass design and incredibly fun and rewarding gameplay. Unfortunately, since the changes to Dark Harvest and Stormrazor, he hasn't been the same as he used to be. However, he has received 2 buffs in the last 3 patches so it seems like Riot are trying to bring him back, so now is a better time than ever to pick him up if you haven't yet.

Graves is a very unique Jungler who can 1v9 a game, if played correctly. This guide will hopefully help you gain some LP and improve your Graves.

PASSIVE ABILITY

New Destiny (Passive): Graves's shotgun holds two shells. After firing them he must reload. Each attack fires several bullets in a cone. Hitting an enemy with multiple bullets does bonus damage. These bullets cannot pass through units.

Q ABILITY

End of the Line (Q): Graves fires an explosive shell that detonates after 2 seconds, or 0.2 seconds if it strikes terrain. Fires a powder round that deals 45/60/75/90/105 (+0) physical damage to enemies in a line.After 2 seconds or 0.2 seconds on collision with terrain, the round detonates, dealing 85/120/155/190/225 (+0) physical damage to all nearby enemies.

W ABILITY

Smoke Screen (W): Graves fires a smoke canister at the target area creating a cloud of smoke that reduces sight range. Enemies caught in the initial impact are dealt magic damage and have their movement speed reduced briefly. Creates a cloud of Black Smoke lasting 4 seconds. Enemies inside Black Smoke cannot see out.Enemies caught in the initial impact are dealt 60/110/160/210/260 (+60% Ability Power) magic damage and have their movement speed reduced by 50% for 0.5 seconds.

E ABILITY

Quickdraw (E): Graves dashes forward gaining an Armor boost for several seconds. If Graves dashes towards an enemy champion, gain two stacks of True Grit instead. Hitting enemies with basic attacks lowers the cooldown of this skill and refreshes the resistance boost. Dashes in a direction, reloading one shell. Graves gains True Grit for 4 seconds. If Graves dashes towards an enemy champion, gain two stacks of True Grit instead. Basic attack hits lower the cooldown of Quickdraw by 0.5 seconds. Damage against non-minions also refreshes True Grit.True Grit grants 8/11/14/17/20 Armor (stacks up to [object Object] times).

R ABILITY

Collateral Damage (R): Graves fires an explosive shell dealing heavy damage to the first champion it hits. After hitting a champion or reaching the end of its range, the shell explodes dealing damage in a cone. Fires an explosive shell with such force that it knocks Graves back. The shell deals {{ damage }} physical damage to the first enemy hit. After hitting an enemy Champion or reaching the end of its range, the shell explodes, dealing {{ falloffdamage }} physical damage in a cone.

If you want to play Graves as best as you possibly can, you need to know what I'm about to tell you. You may already know these things as they are quite obvious but you'd be surprised, some people don't do it. Graves's abilites to be used as best as they possibly can so you can smurf harder. Things to remember is:

Q ( End of the Line)
- The 2nd part of the Q is the most important part, so make sure to land it. If you fire your Q into terrain it will bounce back faster and be undodgeable unless they dash/flash away, so make sure to try to use walls to land your Q.

W ( Smoke Screen)
-Most hidden broken ability in the game, can be one of the most frustrating abilities to play against, so use the reduced sight range to your advantage. It will make players have to reposition to keep attacking you, and it can make people completely unaware of what is about to happen to them. The slow is also very nice for ganking.

E ( Quickdraw)
-Graves most important ability. It can be used offensively or defensively. It can go over most walls, and it also reloads a bullet for Graves so make sure to almost never use E when you have both bullets unless you completely have to. It also gives you armor everytime you use it. Most players don't know that if you dash towards an enemy it will give you double the armor, which can be the difference between dying and living.

R ( Collateral Damage)
-Pair this with your E's to kite out melee enemies. It can also be used to get over walls, however is quite hard to execute in the moment.

Pros → Doesn't lose HP when clearing → Decent clearing speed → Very mobile → Surprisingly Tanky → Insane damage → Strong at all points of the game

Cons → Can be useless if behind → No Hard CC → Although ranged, he can be kited by ADC's → Not the tankiest → Auto's hit the target infront, can screw you over

Graves has quite a strong clear as he can kite out the buffs. The main Jungle pathing I take is:

Red Buff -> Krugs -> Raptors -> Blue Buff -> Rift Scuttler -> Gank near lanes or do Gromp then Wolves

I take this path because Graves doesn't have much of a presence early game due to his lack of CC, so clearing to get your levels and gold is most important. However, if there is a free gank, this path will ensure that you have the early level 3 so you can gank.

Krugs allows you to get to level 3 off of 3 camps which is why it is so important to take early. It also gives you an insane amount of gold and xp on its next spawn so I like to kill it ASAP so it respawns earlier.

Graves doesn't necessarily need a leash so if you don't want a lane to be late they don't have to be. Just use your Quickdraw and the knock back on your auto's to kite the buff around.

Graves isn't the easiest champion to gank with, due to his lack off hard CC, so if an opponent has flash you probably wont kill them, but you've got a decent chance at getting those summoners away. I typically gank lanes that do have CC because it makes the ganks decent.

To gank with Graves, you need to use the slow from your Smoke Screen to close the gap, and then your E as an auto reset to do more damage. Try to land your 2nd Q by hitting terrain with it. Maximising your damage will increase your chances of getting a kill when you gank.

Red Buff will help you gank alot, as well as your Red Smite.

In conclusion, Graves is a very strong champion who I feel will be coming back into meta soon, so start practising him now if you haven't yet. He has a high skill cap so the more you play the more you will be rewarded, and you will soon realise why he is my favourite champion.
