Champion Build Guide
Opening
First off, don't expect to solo carry a game, it's just not gonna happen with this build. The point of this build is to bully most top laners off CS and to have good survivability in teamfights. Ryze was the first champ I enjoyed playing in Top Lane, and I only did it as a meme since Ryze Top is a very outdated meta. With the changes that were made in Season 12, I saw an opportunity to cover my weaknesses while playing Ryze Top. While I obviously understand why Ryze takes Phase Rush, I just didn't have good enough micro to last long enough in fights (early or late) to do what Ryze does; scale and blow people up for 1k damage. So, when I saw a new Tear item for tanks and Demonic Embrace changes. I knew immediately I was going to make a build that allows me to stay alive in fights while still doing a decent amount of damage and peeling for my carries.
The Ground Rules
To start, don't take early fights without a Jungler to 2v1, you are just gonna lose. That isn't unique to this build, Ryze just has a bad early game. Secondly, you should be playing weak side the entire laning phase, and call for assistance whenever your Jungler is Top side so that at the very least, they have been notified that the enemy is in a postition to be ganked. Even if it means you lose out on some CS, do whatever you can to have the wave push near your tower. The last major rule of thumb for me would be to not waste your mana trying to CS or constantly poking through the wave early (I'd say play conservative with mana until around 7 or 8 minutes). My main reasons are so that you can defend yourself, should you be ganked or dove under tower, so that you can help your jungler gank, or to push the wave out when you're ready to back.
Wrap-up
To summarize, you are a secondary carry who is meant to cripple the enemy Top laner during laning phase, peel for you team's main carries, and/or lockdown enemy carries in teamfights. If you play this build correctly, even if you lose, you should be able to say to yourself, "I did everything in my power to set us up for success, I just got unlucky." And I know not everyone is satisfied with that, but this build is for people like me who don't mind sacrificing a major carry role and to potentially leave the game in the hands of your team.
