INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my Shurelya’s Cho'Gath Guide!

This build transforms Cho'Gath into a speed demon with incredible engage and mobility, perfect for dominating teamfights and controlling the map.

About Me:
I’m Zrzko, a Diamond Peak Cho'Gath player from EUNE, peaking as rank 20 Cho on the server. I’ve spent countless hours mastering this champion, and I’m excited to share my knowledge with you!

Why Play This Build?

Pros

High burst with Hail of Blades.
Fast engage with Shurelya’s.
Surprising stickiness for a tank.
Strong mid game and scaling into late game.
Unconventional build catches enemies off guard.

Cons

Many hard matchups on Top and Mid.
Mana issues early on.
Less tanky than traditional builds.
Requires good positioning.
Doesn’t work well in poke-heavy metas.
Runes & Explanation
  • KEYSTONE
  • Hail of Blades: This keystone allows Cho'Gath to quickly use his Vorpal Spikes (E) for burst damage in short trades. It’s especially effective in the early game for dominating lane opponents and securing early kills, and thanks to our E dealing percentual max HP, the damage stays decent througout the game.
  • MAJOR RUNE
  • Cheap Shot: This rune synergizes well with Cho'Gath’s Q (Rupture) and E (Vortex spikes), providing bonus true damage to enemies that are impaired (knock-up, slow etc.). It enhances your trading potential and poke damage in lane.
  • MINOR RUNE
  • Grisly Mementos: This rune provides additional trinket haste, the haste increases with champion takedowns. Overall not very important to our strategy.
  • HUNTER RUNE
  • Ultimate Hunter: This rune reduces the cooldown of your ultimate, Feast, allowing you to use it more frequently for securing kills, objectives, and stacking your passive. It’s essential for maintaining pressure throughout the game.
  • SORCERY
  • Celerity: This rune increases all movement speed bonuses, making it easier to position yourself in fights, chase down enemies, or escape dangerous situations. It synergizes perfectly with our Shurelya's and Dead man's .
  • SORCERY
  • Axiom Arcanist: This rune reduces the cooldown of your ultimate and increases its damage by 12%, this is especially useful for securing objectives. Don't forget to do the math in your head before ulting an objective.
Item Build & Power Spikes

SHURELYA'S BATTLESONG

DEAD MAN'S PLATE

KAENIC ROOKERN

RIFTMAKER
Shurelya's Battlesong provides Cho'Gath with additional mobility and utility, allowing him to engage or disengage fights more effectively. The active ability grants movement speed to himself and nearby allies, making it a great choice for our roaming, team-oriented playstyles. Dead Man's Plate enhances Cho'Gath's durability and mobility. It provides armor and health, and its passive effect increases movement speed and deals bonus damage on the next attack after moving, making it useful for chasing down enemies and roaming. Kaenic Rookern is a strong defensive item that provides health and magic resistance. Its passive grants a shield against magic damage, making it particularly effective against mages. If the enemy team lacks AP, feel free to skip it and build Riftmaker. Riftmaker is a strong choice for Cho'Gath when building for sustained damage and survivability. It provides ability power, health, and omnivamp, and its passive grants permanent AP based on a percentage of your bonus health. This is an absolute must-have on Cho'gath as we gain permanent health from our Ultimate.

JAK'SHO, THE PROTEAN

FORCE OF NATURE

SYMBIOTIC SOLES

TRIUMPHANT SYNCHRONIZED SOULS
Jak'Sho, The Protean is a versatile item that enhances Cho'Gath's tankiness. It grants armor, magic resistance, and health, and its passive increases resistances during combat, making Cho'Gath harder to take down as fights progress. Force of Nature is ideal for Cho'Gath when facing heavy magic damage. It grants magic resistance, health, and its passive increases movement speed and magic resist as you take magic damage, helping Cho'Gath stay resilient in magic-heavy encounters. Symbiotic Soles are vital for our strategy. They provide Cho'Gath with the empowered recall (4 seconds instead of 8) and give us enhanced movement speed out of combat (once stacked by moving). This allows us to adapt to different situations, and roam. Don't forget to buy the Triumphant Synchronized Souls if your team has the Feats of Strength
Playstyle & Strategy

Early Game (Levels 1-6)

  • Trade Effectively with Hail of Blades + E
Use Hail of Blades to quickly stack your Vorpal Spikes (E) for burst damage in short trades. This combo is especially effective against squishy opponents.

  • Save Q (Rupture) for Disengage
While Q can be tempting to use aggressively, it’s often better to save it for disengaging or interrupting enemy engages. This ensures you have an escape tool if the trade goes poorly.

  • Manage Your Mana
Cho’Gath’s abilities can drain mana quickly. Avoid spamming Q and Feral Scream (W) unnecessarily. Focus on last-hitting minions with auto-attacks and use abilities sparingly to maintain pressure.

  • Prioritize Safe Farming
Focus on farming safely and avoiding unnecessary risks. Use your abilities to control the wave and maintain pressure without overextending.

Mid-Game (Roaming & Fights)

  • Engage with Shurelya’s + Q
Once you have Shurelya’s Battlesong, use its active to speed up your team and land a well-placed Q to initiate fights. This combo is great for catching enemies off guard.

  • Roam with Dead Man’s Plate
After completing Dead Man’s Plate, look for opportunities to roam. The movement speed and tankiness it provides make you a formidable presence in skirmishes and ganks.

  • Peel for Your Carries
While Cho’Gath can initiate fights, don’t forget to peel for your carries. Use Q and W to disrupt enemy assassins or divers, keeping your damage dealers safe.

  • Save Your Ultimate for Objectives and Kills
While it might be tempting to use your ultimate, Feast, on minions to stack your passive, it’s crucial to save it for high-impact moments early in the game. Avoid using it on minions until later stages when securing stacks becomes less risky. Instead, keep your ultimate ready for key objectives like Voidgrubs or when your jungler is pathing toward your lane for a gank. This ensures you can contribute to securing objectives or securing kills, giving your team a significant advantage.

Late Game (Teamfight Monster)

  • Initiate Fights with Shurelya’s + Q
In the late game, your role as an initiator becomes crucial. Use Shurelya’s active to speed up your team and land a game-changing Q to start teamfights.

  • Secure Objectives with Ultimate
Cho'Gath’s ultimate, Feast, deals more damage than Smite, making it a powerful tool for securing key objectives like Dragon, Baron, or Rift Herald. This allows you to confidently start objectives even in risky situations, such as when the enemy jungler is alive. By timing your ult correctly, you can guarantee that the enemy team can’t steal the objective, giving your team a significant advantage. Use this to play more aggressively and control the pace of the game.

  • Position as a Frontline Tank
In teamfights, position yourself as the frontline tank. Use your massive health pool and crowd control abilities to absorb damage and disrupt the enemy team, allowing your carries to deal damage safely.

Conclusion
That’s it for my beloved Shurelya's Cho'Gath guide!
