you are doing it right in the video
Also, I still have some doubts about resolve as secondary path. Inspiration does give you that juicy extra 5% cdr, what made you decide resolve was the better option?
(For my examples here, I'll be only mentioning the early-mid game, as that's where the skill order really matters.)
In the laning phase, your job as Zilean is two-fold: to poke, and to protect/assist your carry. The W-Build helps you do your poking job faster, but it leaves you with a mere 40% speed boost to hand out to your carry or use on yourself. A good jungle gank or even just bad positioning would punish you severely, and you can't really rely just on landing double bombs for CC.
On the other hand, a high level E? I've made Rammus players ragequit several times already after I've turned their Powerballs to mere crawls, and the few TP-ing top laners that manage to survive me double-bombing them just as they arrive never quite reach me or my ADC with a well-placed slow.
Running the W-Build also runs the issue of running OOM early, especially if you go use double-bombs too often. Indeed, the case is that during the laning phase, a good Zilean uses the QWQ combo sparingly, so they can slowly harass the ADC out of lane, or if the support is a healer/shielder, make them go OOM. Double-bomb only to secure a kill, and using a high level E on them as soon as the stun is off makes them wish that they were still stunned.
Mid-game, having a high-level E makes for good roaming as well. You'll be basically a Rammus 2.0 running down the river and helping your mid and bot in turn, and this only improves the more time passes once you get that sweet, sweet 85% speed modifier that lets you ward safely and roam without much issue.
Here's one thing I do admit though - in teamfights, where it is far easier to land double bombs with how many targets there are, having an early high W would help a lot, as that would let you use double-bombs twice or thrice in a row. However, even then, with how bombs sometimes land wonkily in a teamfight, where one bomb sticks to a champion and the other sticks to a different one, I still feel like that kind of strategy is unreliable.
Using your E on the enemy carry/support/whoever-it-is-that-is-fed-to-hell-and-back and another E to your carry/yourself/fed-allies is still pretty reliable in a teamfight, and when you combine that with the early-mid game potential of a high-E?
Yeah, I see it as a better choice for a support, as a support Main.
the gold changes in8.10 affected the support role +++. best supports right now are the ones who can get a lot of gold from assists. zilean is on of them. so this basically mean that games are longer now and you have to opt for the more late game builds.
i think the resolve tree second with front of life is more appropriate for late game then the inspiration tree. check out if i changed runes at 8.11
my initial tough was to compensate for the mana changes with cookies, but i think tear is enough.
