The ALP Guide to Akali Jungle

By AverageLilliaPlayer
About Me
Hello, my name is Average Lillia Player (or ALP for short) though ingame I go by Yoon. As the name suggests, I main Lillia and prefer to avoiding laning as a whole, often queuing for Jungle or Support (but mostly Jungle). Almost all of my time in the game is spent making extremely strange picks in the Jungle work out, anything from meta to borderline throwing, I'm determined to make it work.
Champion Introduction
Abilities

Akali, the Rogue Assassin
Melee, Assassin, Energy, Mid Laner, Magic, Physical
Clearing: Very Unhealthy First Clear [3:41]
Ganking: Average, Highly Mobile
Speciality: 1v1ing
Why Jungle Akali? Akali doesn't do many things, but the one thing she does, she does well. Clearing isn't her strong suit until well into the game, objectives need to be done with the team, and it is a bit silly to invade without knowing the location of the enemy jungler. But, Akali can gank and if she snowballs, the game is over even with Akali in the jungle role. Her one on one killing power is very strong, shes incredibly fun, and her mobility is extremely useful.
Pros and Cons

Pros

➺ Very Mobile
➺ High Damage
➺ Outplay Potentienal
➺ Good Ganks
➺ Mid Game Carry
➺ Objective Thief

Cons

➺ Unhealthy Jungle Clear
➺ Squishy
➺ Dies to CC
➺ Weak Early
➺ Weak to Invades
➺ Bad Wave Clear
Builds

ABILITY POWER
Ability Power is the most common build for Akali as all of her abilities scale with AP. She's a very bursty character.

HYBRID
Akali naturally has hybrid scaling in her kit, with her abilities scaling off of both ad and ap, except for the second cast of her ultimate. Her need for Tiamat in her clear makes a hybrid build very optimal and very beneficial.

BRUISER
Akali isn't really a bruiser at heart, but with Riftmaker and Sundered Sky, she can be! She builds a majority of AD fighter items as bruiser due to there being.. more of them.
Skill Order
Q
Five Point Strike

W
Twilight Shroud

3 / 14 / 15 / 17 / 18
E

2 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 13
R
Perfect Execution

6 / 11 / 16
> > >
To begin with, Akali starts with Q on level one as that is her lowest CD ability. She struggles a lot with her energy management, even with blue buff, so it's important to keep moving during these zero energy moments (if you have Fleet Footwork especially) to kite monsters.
Level 2 we take E for the extra damage, unless we have Electrocute, Dark Harvest, or Conqueror. If it is one of those special cases, then we take W on level 2 instead to give us the energy recharge.
Level 3 will either be W or E depending on your rune page as mentioned above.
Ability Usage in Jungle
PASSIVE ABILITY
Assassin's Mark
➺ When Akali damages an enemy champion with an ability, she creates a ring around them for 4 seconds, refreshing on repeated abilities against champions. For 2 seconds, she gains movement speed when walking away from champions in the circle. When Akali exits the ring, for 2 seconds, she regains the bonus movement speed while facing nearby enemy champions and becomes empowered with Swinging Kama for 4 seconds, during which she cannot create another ring.

➺ Swinging Karma empowers Akali's next auto attack and has it's range doubled.

➺ In the Jungle, Assassin's Mark does little to help with typical jungler duties. It's more so used in the same way it is in the mid lane - to assassinate an enemy and get out of the fight before the enemy team can do the same to you.

➺ This scales off of Ability Power and Attack Damage, with AD being slightly higher.
Q
Five Point Strike
➺ Akali throws kunai's in an arc in front of herself, dealing magic damage. Enemies hit at the edge of the arc are slowed.

➺ In the Jungle, Five Point Strike is used as the primary damage and clearing ability for it's low cooldown and high damage.. though it is very heavy on energy usage.

➺ This scales off of Ability Power and Attack Damage, with AD being slightly higher.
W
Twilight Shroud
➺ Akali throws down a smoke cloud that makes her invisible to enemies, minions, and monsters. She gains movement speed when throwing it down and regains some energy. Using an attack will break the invisibility. E can be thrown into the smoke to be dashed back to.

➺ In the Jungle, Akali uses Twilight Shroud (outside of the normal hiding from enemies during fights) as a way to regain energy during jungle clears.
E
Shuriken Flip
➺ Akali flips backwards and throws a Shuriken at an enemy and deals magic damage. It can be recast to dash back to the enemy and deal more of the same damage type.

➺ In the Jungle, this ability is used to make the travel between jungle camps faster (as she can dash backwards over walls), escape enemies and invades, and just deal damage in general.

➺ This scales off of Ability Power and Attack Damage, with AP scaling more than the other.
R
Perfect Execution
➺ Akali dashes through enemy champions and deals magic damage, landing behind them. She can then recast this, dashing in any direction without enemies needed, and dealing magic damage a second time. The damage is increased if an enemy champion is low.

➺ In the Jungle, Akali uses this as an execution ability during team fights, ganks, and 1v1's. The cooldown is low, so do NOT be afraid to use it.

➺ This scales off of Ability Power and Attack Damage, with AD being more. Though the recast can only scale off of AP.
Objectives
DRAGON
Akali cannot solo any dragons (except Cloud Drake, and even then it can be iffy) and even in the late game, I advise against trying. Please bring your team with you to fights.

Akali benefits the most from Infernal Soul and Cloud Soul for the extra damage and movement speed respectively.

VOIDGRUBS
Akali can solo Voidgrub's so long as there is no enemy champion to interrupt her and she has her Smite for at least one of them. Be sure to hit multiple monsters with your Q to lessen the time taken for clearing.

RIFT HERALD
Herald can be solo'd by Akali without much effort, but I find it more beneficial to gank during the time you could be clearing herald and instead ward it to steal it off the enemy jungler later.

VORACIOUS ATAKAHN
Voracious Atakahn will spawn in lower-action games with fewer kills/damage, taking root in whichever side of the map has the most drama within it. It cannot be solo'd by Akali and requires a majority of the team to be with her. If pinched between a fight and Atakahn, Akali's est interest would be to abandon Atakahn for the time being and focus on weaseling into the backline of the enemy trying to pinch you. If you can get rid of their squishy damage dealers and supports from behind, Atakahn will be attacking their front line and getting them low for you to finish off, assuming everything went alright in the backline. Upon defeating him, Voracious Atakahn grants a free, one-time use of False Life but instead of reviving right in the middle of the fight, you blink back to your fountain.

RUINOUS ATAKHAN
This is the most likely Atakahn for Akali jungle specifically, due to her incredibly high kill power and damage potentional, even as a jungler. This Atakahn follows a very similar strategy as the other! Though be wary of it's big damage. Upon slaying Ruinous Atakhan, you are granted Crown of Carnage which permanently boosts rewards from epic monsters slain aswell as 6 stacks of Bloody Petals.

BARON NASHOR
Akali cannot solo Baron at any point in the game, but she gains more power from baron than elder due to her awful wave clear.

ELDER DRAKE
Akali cannot solo Elder in any reasonable amount of time, but she can solo it eventually if she is full build. I prefer to interrupt an already existing enemy attempt to kill it rather than starting it myself due to Akali's killing power.
Clearing

RED SIDE
OR

BLUE SIDE
I go Red Side second on Akali because I find that although her Q is QOE, she struggles quite a bit with them in comparison to the single target camps which are easier to kite. After Blue, Akali goes to Raptors, Red Brambleback, and Scuttle if she wants to secure vision on time. If not, then she moves onto Krugs. Akali starts blue side for the energy recharge on Blue Sentinel and the single target camps which are easier to walk around and avoid while waiting for heal from Fleet Footwork to charge. Akali starts Blue Sentinel into Gromp into Wolves then moves onto red side.
Core Items
AP BURST
AP BRUISER
AD AKALI
AD BRUISER
Feats of Strength
SORCERER'S SHOES
These are the boots you'll be taking 99% of the time. It's a comfortable pick and gives Akali enough of the magic penetration she will need in the early game.

FEATS OF STRENGTH
Feats of Strength is gained by completing two of three objectives before the enemy team. These objectives include 3 epic monsters slain, first first to three kills, and first tower. For Akali the most optimal of the three is first to three kills and first tower. Save your time with objectives for Rift Herald and stealing. Inbetween those objective timers, go in for kills and make sure to secure as many as possible - you can be a little selfish! It's necessary for her to get ahead as a jungler.

SPELLSLINGER'S SHOES
Upgrading SS grants you Spellslinger's Shoes, providing a buff to Movement Speed and doubling your upgrade on Magic Penetration. Due to Akali wanting more one-shotty items rather than items to build against tanks, upgrading these the moment you have the items and money to is essential to keep her assassin-y feeling build for as long as possible.
Summary

IN CONCLUSION
-
EARLY GAME: Akali struggles a great deal at most things in the early game. She can't clear as fast as other junglers (though she can be at scuttle spawn if she skips a camp) and her health won't be nearly as high as actual junglers. Her damage is low and her energy is lower. But even then, she snowballs very hard and can capitalize on enemy mistakes without much of a hitch.
MID GAME: Akali should have a few kills under her belt. Maybe some objectives have been lost, especially dragons, but she should be spending her time getting topside objectives instead. Ganking non-mobile or non-cc lanes is her priority at this point to snowball her kills into an easy win.
LATE GAME: Either she is single-handedly assassinating enemy backlines by this point, or Akali is an absolutely useless inter depending on how well you played. No matter if you're winning or losing, spend your time farming now that your clear can match that of a normal jungler and keep vision on objectives to interrupt the enemy.
