Support Gaming - Volibear
Is Volibear a tank? Is Volibear a bruiser? Is Volibear a bear? Is Volibear a fun, non-troll support? All YES. He has sustain, an engage, hard-hiting max-HP poke, and an amazing utility ult that can be used defensively and offensively.
Pros:
All round good mobility, tankiness, damage
E poke hits ADCs really hard at massive range
Utility with good roam, tower siege, sustain
Legit heaps of fun to play as (you are someone's support bear)
Cons:
Isn't super-tanky for a while
Whilst E hits like a truck, it costs a lot of mana...
As you'll likely be flamed at worst and have raised eyebrows at best, do your best to prove them wrong! This is the UNIQUE and BEST feeling as an off-meta, low-ELO support. Always leash your jungler, manage vision (SAFELY), tip your waiter, and ping.
Early game
Voli's early game is strong, but you aren't invincible. Go with E first for immediate poking the enemy off the early waves; your side will hit lvl 2 first easily. Depending on the ADC, this can make for a nice early kill if you grab Q immediately on 2 and stun. Q can be taken first if your team is keen to invade, or you want to dash out of a bush onto the enemy bot lane and force a panic flash :)
Skip W for lvl 3, as we'll be nowhere near strong enough to 1v2 at this point. Remember - we're a support bear! 3 points in E by lvl 4 = 140 magic damage (plus some bonuses) at 1200 range. Poke the opposing bot lane whilst farming - unless they have a dash, they will rarely be able to escape the blast zone in time.
Roam and help your jungler when it's safe to do so, and keep tabs on who gets herald; if you can be there (mid or bot) with your ult when it's unleashed, it can crack a lane wide open. If an objective is being contested, your E can be a lifesaves as it procs Font of Life - dump it on the enemy jungler and let yours go at it!
Mid game
Post 6, you can continue to put points into Q for speedier engages. Whilst it was nerfed in the Great Movement Speed Purge of 2021, lvl 3 can still be spicy if you have your boots finished.
Be flexible with your choice of Bami's Cinder-based mythic. You're an agent of chaos and disruption, and all of them are good (Frostfire or Chemtank vs low mobility champs, Sunfire vs lots of CC).
Anathema's chains are great on support Voli. Lots of health, and the poor victim of the curse will be in a lot of trouble when you engage (I recently VS'd a snowballing 8/0/5 Fizz building chains second; they finished 8/8/6).
Keep your vision up and definitely grab a wardstone as soon as you can! The upgraded lvl 13 version (Vigilant Wardstone) provides an awesome stat boost.
Late game
Keep building support legendaries (I've listed Zeke's, but go for Knight's Vow if you have a team member that's having a hard time). Cause mayhem during team fights - poke from afar with E to force people out of position, and your R can cause a group push to absolutely devastate.
Your Q cooldown will be low, so sweep and destroy enemy wards/keep vision up around key objectives.
