The "Stale" feature is for 6 - 8 patches. There is approximately a patch every 1 - 2 weeks. Thus, it probably hasn't expired yet, considering that there haven't been a ton of patches within the last 6 or so weeks.
Just bide your time, it will probably expire soon. Basically, the "Ideal", "Fresh", "Stale", and "Expired" ratings are by patch, and not by time. If Riot only releases 3 or 4 patches within 6 weeks, that's what's taken into account; not the time.

Just wanted to update on this. We've added a tool that will allow Editors to help us maintain our database of patches. This database is what is checked against for tracking staleness, and it has sometimes fallen behind on updates in the past. With this new tool and some Editor assistance it will stay much more up to date and stale guides will fade away that much sooner :)
so the 2 patch thing is gone?
Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!
Nothing has changed with the freshness system. It is as it always was. Just that the database of patches was sometimes behind. Now with the tool open, we will have more eyes and hands on it to make sure it stays up to date, ensuring that guides are marked stale as expected, when expected.
We didn't adjust the rate at which guides go stale though.
