I do phil stone AND heart of gold because she is so strong late game, you want to help her get to late game faster. Her mid game is meh unless she's fed.
You might want to try wriggles or wit's end depending on who you're laning against. Trinity Force is good and randuin's, but I never really see people using the other two. AP on her is not too useful.

Then I would build situational defense items like randuins, force of nature, shurelya's (actually this should be good every game for your phil stone), guardian angel is also good every game. I would build a GA core.

I don't know why you would build AP on Irelia since she only has 2.5 AP scaling, and 2 of it comes from her ult. Usually you want to build Trinity Offtank with Philosopher's Stone, Trinity Force and Warmog's Armor as core (doesn't mean you should build them first, just means you should have them in your build). Since Irelia's true damage doesn't scale (and most of her kit has poor scaling tbh), you can only increase it by increasing the frequency of your attacks, aka attack speed. Other good items include:
Mercury's Treads- Ignore ALL the ccs
Wit's End is a good choice for the extra AS, which synergizes with Hiten Style.
Force of Nature gives MR and movement speed, both very good stats for melee brusiers
Atma's Impaler is ok, since it got nerfed it hasn't seen much play but it still gives decent stats.
Randuin's Omen is a good armor option and lets you get double GP10's early.
Frozen Heart is your other armor choice if you didn't get Heart of Gold early

she has many, many playstyles. quite standard to get triforce, merc treads, randuins, wits, and frozen heart. however, most of these items are situational.
