Read up on all the new PBE changes to get up to date on the upcoming Patch 25.S1.1, the first patch of the 2025 Season! Learn about the new Battle Pass, Feats of Strengths, Atakhan, Tier 3 Boots, and more!
These changes appeared on PBE on the 11th of December, but have been slowly shifting over the past week, and may continue to do so. As such, keep in mind that not all of these changes may make it to the live patch. If you’d like to check any of the following changes out before Wednesday, hop on PBE and queue up!
New Cosmetics - Masque of the Black Rose
We are still a little more than a week away from a new patch hitting the live servers - the first patch of Season 15 - and with it, a collection of skins in a brand new skinline, Masque of the Black Rose. This will be the first Noxus-themed skinline of the year, but according to what we’ve heard, not the last! During Season 1 of the 2025 Seasons, everything will be tailored to the conquerors, including champion and skin releases too.
Masque of the Black Rose is fairly unique in having only one skin that will be directly purchasable - Masque of the Black Rose Ezreal (1350 RP). The other skins, Masque of the Black Rose Elise, Masque of the Black Rose Renata Glasc, Masque of the Black Rose Samira, and Masque of the Black Rose Vladimir will all be Battle Pass rewards. The Elise skin will be a free-tier reward, whereas the remainder are Pass+ rewards. The Pass will, as before, cost 1650 RP.
Masque of the Black Rose Katarina will be the first Prestige skin released in 2025 and a new of its kind. Riot had announced a small rework in how Prestige skins work going forward. Basically, there is no longer a Masque of the Black Rose Katarina and then an additional Prestige Masque of the Black Rose Katarina, making Prestige skins, well… all the more prestigious! Like the other skins, you can acquire Masque of the Black Rose Katarina through the new Battle Pass.
Another Exalted skin is haymaking its way into the Sanctum - Radiant Serpent Sett. This Lunar Revel skin may anticipate a new collection coming after Masque of the Black Rose. As an Exalted skin, Radiant Serpent Sett will come with new voiceover, new SFX/VFX, new animations, and a transformation you can switch to during the game. It will cost up to 80 Ancient Sparks in the Sanctum, just as Arcane Fractured Jinx did, with each Arcane Spark costing 400 RP, ultimately pricing the skin at about $250 at most.
Last but not least, Victorious Master Yi will be distributed to players who have achieved at least Gold in any ranked queue. Players will also receive Chromas in the colour of their tier, and every tier below it. If you’ve achieved Gold this past split, you’ll receive Victorious Master Yi, as well as the Bronze, Silver, and Gold chromas for the skin for free.
Client & System Changes
New Theme: Noxus
Starting with this patch, Noxus will be doing a massive takeover of League of Legends, down to the client’s thematics. The 2025 year will be split into three of these thematic Seasons, each lasting around eight patch cycles, or four months. The themes are far-encompassing, tying into game modes, missions, rewards, gameplay visuals, cosmetics, and all other related content.
New Battle Pass
A whole new Battle Pass system is being put into place starting with next year. Each Season will be further divided into two Acts with both having their own separate Battle Pass that offers unique rewards and is always available. That would mean that Battle Passes will, going forward, last around four patch cycles, or two months.
There will be a free and paid Battle Pass, with the differences in rewards being:
Completing the Pass works pretty much just as it did before, except that the speed of your progress will now be slower or faster depending on your Honour standing. You’ll also be able to expedite the process by completing Daily, Weekly, and per-Act missions.
New Queue: Swiftplay
Swiftplay, a brand new type of queue, will replace Quickplay for Summoner’s Rift starting with this upcoming patch. It will launch in the following regions: North America, Latin America North, Latin America South, EU West, EU Nordic & East, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Swiftplaywill essentially be a faster way to experience authentic Summoner’s Rift gameplay, comparable to Hyper Roll inTeamfight Tactics. You’ll still be playing with nine other people and experiencing Summoner’s Rift as intended - only, much, much faster. The early game will be somewhat comparable to classic Ranked and Draft, but almost all sources of gold and experience will increase exponentially as the game progresses, accelerating the game pretty significantly post-lane-phase.
Most elements that rely on time such as monster spawns, gold generating items, and turret plating, will all be changed to happen much quicker. Supports, in particular, gain considerably more gold in Swiftplay than in traditional Summoner’s Rift. Because of this, their items cost more in Swiftplay, but also provide increased stats. Finally, players will also have an easier time making a comeback in terms of both gold and experience.
Honour System Rework
The Honour system is once again getting significant changes. It is now directly tied to your accessibility in the game and the Battle Pass reward system, rather than just a way to gain some bonus content at the end of a season if you haven’t misbehaved. The new 5-tier system is as follows:
Since your Honour rewards are now tied to the Battle Pass, the Honour Shop and Honour tokens are being removed from the game. The last chance to use the Honour Shop will be before Patch 25.S1.4, that is, four patches from now when Act 1 of the new Season ends. Unspent Honor 5 Tokens will be automatically converted to 1050 Orange Essence each.
Masterwork Chests & Champion Mastery Changes
Something else that’s been made redundant with the recent changes are Masterwork Chests and Champion Mastery Chests. To avoid having three separate reward tracks, these elements will be getting removed from the game as well. Champion Mastery is now awarded directly through the Battle Pass.
Masterwork Chests had historically been the most reliable way to acquire Mythic Essence. With the inclusion of the Sanctum, they have now lost their main purpose. Masterwork Chests will no longer be sold starting from the 6th of January 2025. They will not be granted as rewards in systems such as Battle Passes or Ranked Rewards. The Masterwork Milestone track will be deactivated on the 5th of March 2025. All earned rewards will be auto-claimed. If you have any unopened Masterwork Chests, you'll want to open them before this date.
Practice Tool Changes
Practice Tool is receiving a long awaited update - it can now be played multiplayer. A couple of new cheats have been added as well. Players can now increase the Game Speed by 0.25x, 0.5x, 2x, and 4x, perhaps to mimic Swiftplay circumstances. Players will also be able to activate Feats of Strength and spawn the new jungle monster, Atakhan.
Summoner’s Rift Changes
Noxus Has Arrived
Noxus has conquered PBE and will now be invading the live servers as well, bringing heaps of aesthetic and gameplay changes. Aside from changing the look of the Rift, as well as the shop, turrets, and minion garb, Noxus has brought a new mechanic called Feats of Strength, a new jungle plant, a new Epic jungle monster, and more!
In a nutshell, the upcoming changes include:
Feats of Strengths
A mechanic replacing First Blood bonus gold. This is a best-of-three competition between the two opposing teams to complete various feats. Upon being the first to complete two feats, your team will gain the Blessing Of Noxus. The follow feats earn your team 1 point towards gaining the blessing:
An ally draws First Blood
Destroying the First Turret of the game
Taking down the first three Epic monsters
The Blessing of Noxus automatically upgrades Tier 2 Boots into their Triumphant versions, granting additional stat bonuses, for everyone on the victorious team. You will also unlock the option to purchase a Tier 3 upgrade for your Boots, but this will only be available after you've already purchased 2 Legendary-tier items first.
New Neutral Monster: Atakhan
Atakhan will spawn either top or bottom lane in the Baron or Dragon pit at 20:00, on the side of the map that has seen more bloodshed by the 14th minute mark.
Atakhan has two forms - Ruinous and Voracious:
Ruinous Atakhan spawns in higher-action games. When killed, your entire team will permanently gain increased effects from subsequent Epic monster rewards, and he'll leave behind a field of the new jungle plant - Blood Roses for you to collect.
Voracious Atakhan will grant a temporary, one-time rebirth buff when killed, similar to Akshan's Passive. Additionally, Voracious Atakhan slayers will gain a permanent increase to gold from champion takedowns.
New Jungle Plant: Blood Rose / Large Blood Rose
Blood Roses can now be found periodically in more action-packed quadrants of the map, that is, where the most killing has taken place. Picking up a Blood Rose permanently grants one stack of the Bloody Petals buff to all team members, and picking up Large Blood Petals grants 3. Each stack grants 25 Experience and 1 Adaptive Force. Ruinous Atakhan specifically will cause several Blood Roses to spawn around his marked location and upon being taken down.
