From reading the OP it sounds like we'reonly finding out that Moon doesn't want to support now that he's boiled over.

Well, yes. If you don't tell people that you are not enjoying supporting all the time, how is anyone supposed to know? They might be able to tell that you are angry, but there could be any number of reasons why that is. If you just go support all the time without complaint people are going to assume you are fine with it. It would have been better for all involved, yourself included, if you had informed someone you wanted to do something other than support before it got to this point.

there were people who have been aware of it for a while, I also made it fairly well known in the inhouse the week before
