About Me
Lux is one of the champions that has reigned for quite a while, and have been relevant in the meta for some time. Excelling in burst and CC, she can take on a few people at once by herself. The only downfall of her is that she has no movement abilities (other than flash), so she can get outplayed easily if not careful. She has a decent early game, and can have a strong mid to late game. But to achieve this, she has to farm at a very safe distance.
FLASH IS A MUST PICK ON LUX. Like near-to-every character, flash is the most important spell for Lux, as she has no escapes or mobility.
I either take BARRIER or TELEPORT, and it depends. If I want to be aggressive and push lane as fast as I can and quickly, then I take teleport, as I can get back to lane very quickly. If I want to be on the defensive and farm and level up safely, then I would take Barrier. TIP: 9 times out of 10, you're gonna need to use Flash to escape death. Only use flash to get a kill if it will be first blood, or you need a kill advantage to be the winner of your lane.
You can take things like HEAL or IGNITE, bur I usually don't. Heal rarely is used correctly, and Lux isn't one to chase low-health champs, and ignite is rarely used because you are meant to get kills from a very safe distance.

Lux's passive is quite powerful in my opinion. Whenever she uses an ability on someone, a ball of light goes above them, and if hit with an auto attack, will explode and deal magic damage. Even though it only does a bit of extra damage, it is very useful when farming minions, and can even decide the victor of a 1v1.
Her Q is a skillshot that deals magic damage and roots the target for quite a decent amount of time. You'll want to max this second, as it is a very good form of farming from a distance, and can even catch people who are out of place at times.
Her W is a skillshot that shields herself and allies with a barrier, once when she throws it, and another when it returns. You should ideally leave this last to level up, as it has relatively no use in lane.
Her E is a skillshot that throws a singularity at a specific location, and after a brief delay, appears on the battlefield. While active, it slows down targets within the area, and, if pressed again or after 6 seconds, detonates, dealing magic damage, and continues the slow effect for a few seconds. This is the most important move of her whole set; it can be used to check brushes, can be used to mass-farm, and can be used to kill low-health enemies. You'll want to max this first, but be careful to not use up all of your mana in laning phase.
Her R is a skillshot that, after a brief delay, will shoot a long beam of light at the enemy that does instant magic damage. Pair this with her Q to root them, and to guarantee either a kill or to deal lots of damage. This can also be used to snipe low health-enemies from a distance. When you get a kill with this, the cooldown is reduced.
Notice how all of her moves are mainly skillshots. This therefore suggests that she's a very skilled player, as you have to consistently hit all your skillshots to be effective, but that isn't the case. As long as you farm safely in lane until level 6 (any maybe poke the other mid laner a bit), then you're good to go!

The runes that are above is what I usually take with Lux, and has proven to be a very reliable rune path. Arcane Comet is really good for poking, and deals good damage to force the other champ out of lane. Manaflow Band is my favourite rune path (especially the updated one), because when you back to fountain, you will have an extra 250 mana without items, so you can focus on AP in the early game. Transcendence is very useful for getting your spells fast, and builds excess CDR in the items into AP. Scorch is also useful for poking, and getting that extra damage.
Her Inspiration section gives her extra AP and CDR that is effective in the long run. Cosmic Insight is very useful, and Biscuit Delivery is extremely good in sustaining in your lane, and you can stay in longer to farm more.
If you want you can replace Inspiration with any other rune path, as all of them will combo well with her moveset. Precision keeps her in lane and farms better, Domination is good if you like to poke frequently with her E, and Resolve is excellent to sustain longer (especially the new rune Chrysalis).

For burst mage:
- Rush Luden's Echo, for maximum damage output in early game
- Then get Sorcerer's Shoes, to get the early magic penetration (Ninja Tabi if against AD)
- I prefer to use Liandry's, then Morellonomicon, and end with Rabadon's, to maximise my AP.
Sometimes I will substitute Liandry's with Hextech GLP-800 for a bit more sustain
For sustain/defensive option:
- Build Luden's and Sorcerer's Shoes
- Now, get Banshee's veil and Zhonya's Hourglass, as these will provide you magic resist
and armor respectively
- End off with Seraph's Embrace and Archangel's Staff

The number one rule with Lux that I always follow: NEVER GO OUT INTO THE FRONT OF TEAMFIGHTS. I've seen lots of Lux players do this, and they end up just feeding the lane, because they underestimate the cooldown of their abilities. You have to stay a bit back (preferably in the middle of your team), so you are able to land your skillshots from a safe distance, and do damage to them.
