Choose Champion Build:

  • LoL Champion: Singed
    Engage Tank
  • LoL Champion: Singed
    AP + Utility

Introduction

Ever since the 7.14 mini rework, Singed has become a somewhat viable pick in the bot lane. His new passive Noxious Slipstream can proc off of all champions (including teammates), allowing Singed to become a tanky but mobile support in the bot lane. As with any other teamfighting tank, Singed's core function is to engage and disrupt the enemy team while providing utilities and peel to his own. Nevertheless, he has an incredibly unique but surprisingly effective playstyle that allows him to do everything a support need to do and a little more on top of that.

When it comes down to what support Singed actually has to offer, he has a bit of everything a support player needs. When used correctly, Fling is great setup CC, especially when chained with Mega Adhesive. Poison Trail (especially when affected by his ultimate Insanity Potion) does a surprising amount of damage, especially in the early-mid game. Noxious Slipstream and Insanity Potion allow him to effortlessly chase and kite enemy champions even without investing into movement speed items such as Turbo Chemtank. Combined with his incredible item synergies and good base stats, support Singed a force to be reckoned with.

Ranked Play

I would caution against playing support Singed in ranked solo/duo simply due to the community's inherently negative views towards unusual champion choices. As with all other off-meta picks, you WILL get flamed and reported for performing poorly as Singed support, so be sure to talk things over with your teammates before locking in. Nevertheless, one could certainly do incredibly well as Singed support, especially if you're playing with a team in ranked flex or if you have an ADC main as a duo queue partner.

Given the current state of the support meta, Singed is actually in a decently good spot. While he can be played into more or less any matchup, he is in fact going to struggle against heal/shieldbots as he can't properly punish them in the laning phase and they will often outscale and end up negating your team's damage in the mid/late game with AOE utilities.

Janna is currently an extremely overtuned champion and THE must ban for anyone who is planning to play Singed in the botlane.

Summoner Spells

Ghost - Movement speed is an incredibly valuable stat on Singed and as such, Ghost is too strong to pass up.

Exhaust - Standard summoner spell for support champions that should always be brought vs. any comp with high kill pressure. However, Exhaust can also be used offensively to single out an opponent and make it difficult for them to escape.

Ignite - You can alternatively take this when paired with a high pressure ADC or vs a comp that revolves around lifesteal/regen/healing. However, you will have to sacrifice the overall utility of Exhaust and account for the fact that Ignite doesn’t scale nearly as well into the late game.

Flash - Not recommended simply due to the fact that Flash gets outclassed by Ghost in 90% of situations and not taking a combat summoner spell makes your already weak laning phase virtually nonexistent. (not to mention that it’s considered super troll as well)

Masteries [WIP]

0/12/18 Courage of the Colossus
In my opinion, this is the best overall mastery page for support Singed

12/0/18 could work but I would not consider it as optimal (more damage at the cost of less utilities)

Stoneborn Pact is just as (if not more) viable than Courage of the Colossus if:
nobody else on your team is taking Stoneborn Pact
AND
you’re in an advantageous laning matchup where you won’t need the shield from Courage of the Colossus

If you plan on going Stoneborn Pact , Eye of the Equinox into Rylai's Crystal Scepter is the only viable build path

Runes

There are a number of viable rune combinations for Singed support. My favorite rune page and the one I default to is as follows:

9x Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
4x Greater Seal of Scaling Health + 5x Greater Seal of Armor
4x Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power + 5x Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed

While I'm sure there is a more optimal rune page out there, this one gives you just enough of everything support Singed needs.

Alternatively, here's a tankier page that I've also had success with:

9x Greater Mark of Armor
9x Greater Seal of Scaling Health
5x Greater Glyph of Magic Resist + 4x Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed

While this rune set will significantly boost your ability to absorb damage in the early game, the loss of AP damage is also fairly obvious. To solve this issue, you could take Greater Quintessence of Ability Power, but this is not ideal since Singed greatly benefits from even the slightest amount of movement speed.

Items

Itemization Priorities (With Examples)

1. Survivability (HP, Armor, MR, Shields)

2. Mobility (MS, Tenacity, Vision)

3. Utility (Shields, Heals, CC)

4. Damage (AP, Magic Pen)

Starting Items:

Relic Shield - This is by far the best item to start with for any tanky melee support, including Singed. The passive is incredibly valuable both for you and your team and the stats synergize with Singed’s priorities for an early laning item.
Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation OR Health Potion - Generally you will want to get these with the extra 150G that you will have left over from the Relic Shield.
Refillable Potion - Take this instead of the health potions if you’re confident that you won’t be getting poked in lane or you won’t need the extra healing provided by the Health Potion or Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation.

Early Options:

Targon's Brace - This item is an essential for your first back. The survivability and utility provided by the additional stats and improved tribute passive allow you stay in lane vs aggressive poke. 90% of the time, you’ll want to get this item over a Sightstone on your first back.
Boots - As previously mentioned, mobility is a very valuable stat for Singed. If you have more than 800G on your first back, Boots are an absolute necessity.
Sightstone - Given how important roaming and vision are for tank supports in the current support meta, you’ll want to get a sightstone as soon as possible. However, in terms of raw stats and utility, sightstone gets eclipsed by the Targon's Brace as a laning item after your first back. Nevertheless, if you managed to grab an early kill in lane or if you first backed with more than 1100G, you could look to grab a Sightstone. However, if you do you should immediately begin to look to roam or counterjungle with your jungler instead of sitting around in lane with your ADC.
Bramble Vest - This item is pretty broken right now, as it’s essentially a 900G hard counter to any ADC/Duelist that’s even remotely reliant on lifesteal/healing. It sets you back from your core items, but unless they have a full AP team comp the bonus armor is still fairly useful. Get this if the Draven got a few kills early and you can’t comfortably tank his damage. (Or if they’re running some sort of double AD cheese botlane)
Control Ward - Once again, vision is underappreciated but very strong at every level of play. Whenever you have the extra gold and an available item slot, grab a Control Ward. Granting vision for your team while denying it to the enemy is crucial to both you and your team, especially if you plan on aggressively roaming into other lanes or the enemy jungle.
Sweeping Lens - Once you get you Sightstone, you can choose to upgrade your Stealth Ward to a Sweeping Lens. Do this if your game plan it to roam and snowball the other lanes (sweep the likely warded bushes and run them down with Ghost and Insanity Potion)

Footwear Options:

Ninja Tabi - These boots are usually my go to option for footwear. The armor and damage reduction is very strong vs. ADCs and duelists in every stage of the game. You’ll want these boots in ~70% of your games. With Ninja Tabi and a Bramble Vest, most ADCs won’t be able to touch you during the early/mid game.
Mercury's Treads - Another very solid option for support Singed. Although I personally favor Ninja Tabi, these boots will work wonders against double/triple AP comps or teams with excessive amounts of crowd control.
Mobility Boots - Alternatively, you can get these if you won your lane hard and wish to aggressively make plays or roam. However, due to the fact that these boots offer no defensive stats, they will eventually fall off as the game goes on. If you plan on getting these boots, you’ll need to be very proactive with warding and applying pressure on the enemy team.

Support Items:

Eye of the Equinox - For the most part, this is the upgraded support item that you’ll want. Rushing this item grants a very valuable array of stats and allows you to have a massive powerspike while transitioning into the midgame. With the tier 3 tribute passive and tier 2 Sightstone, you’re now able to focus on getting your other priority items.
Face of the Mountain - This item plus Ruby Sightstone is also a viable choice, although I find Eye of the Equinox to be better in the majority of games. This is because by spending an additional 1500G on your support + Sightstone items, you’re delaying the rest of your build by around half an item for the rest of the game. Nevertheless, in games where botlane won but overall your team is even/behind, you can get these two items (and possibly skip Rylai's Crystal Scepter) to focus purely on peeling for your fed carry.
Ruby Sightstone - Along with your Face of the Mountain and Locket of the Iron Solari, a Ruby Sightstone allows you to constantly shield and tank for your carries in teamfights. Once again though, this itemset is not recommended unless your team is relying on a teamfight mage or ADC to carry a difficult game.
Oracle Lens - With your upgraded Sightstone, you’ll no longer have a reason to keep the Stealth Ward. Since you’re a tank who’s not afraid of facechecking bushes, you should get this trinket upgrade as soon as you hit level 9. Do not forget this item, as vision denial is extremely important during the mid and late game.

Other Essentials:

Locket of the Iron Solari - Once again, support Singed is an engage and peel tank who thrives in massive teamfights. With this playstyle and the synergy with the rest of his items, a locket will greatly help to boost his playstyle. For the most part, you’ll want a Rylai's Crystal Scepter before locket if you either took Stoneborn Pact or if your team prefers skirmishes over 5v5 teamfights. However, unless those conditions apply, you’ll want a Locket of the Iron Solari before Rylai's Crystal Scepter and attempt to force fights whenever the active is available.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter - This item is pretty much essential on any version of Singed, as it greatly improves both his teamfighting (kiting and chasing) and split pushing while granting a respectable amount of both HP and AP. For support Singed in particular, this item helps to peel for your carries and deter assassins. After getting a Rylai's Crystal Scepter you can easily apply Stoneborn Pact to the entire enemy team with just your Poison Trail.

Situationals - Aggressive:

Turbo Chemtank - If you’re having difficulties getting onto the enemy team, get this item. Even after the item got changed in 7.12, it’s still very much viable on Singed.
Ardent Censer - Buy this overpowered item if you have Stoneborn Pact and Rylai's Crystal Scepter and you’re fine with giving your auto-attack based champions a massive boost at the cost of being much squishier than you would be normally. Get this only if you already have a frontline tank on your team that is able to absorb the enemy team’s damage and CC.
Liandry's Torment - Personally, I wouldn’t recommend getting a Liandry's Torment, as it’s expensive and doesn’t offer much in the way of tank stats. However, this item is fairly decent if you're ahead, already have a frontline tank, and you're with a team that is mostly AD.

Situationals - Defensive:

Gargoyle Stoneplate - This item is absolutely insane. It gives a nice amount of armor and magic resist and has an active that allows you to literally double your health. This item is a must buy if you went Face of the Mountain and Ruby Sightstone for your support and vision items respectively. However, since you deal a surprising amount of damage in the mid game, I wouldn’t advise getting a Gargoyle Stoneplate until late game if you went for an Eye of the Equinox since the active lowers your damage output by 60%.
Knight's Vow - From experience, as a linking item Knight's Vow is a lot stronger and more versatile than Zeke's Convergence. This is due to the fact that the vow offers a more relevant statline and isn’t reliant on the long cooldown of your ultimate. This item should be bought whenever you have a fed DPS carry/mage and you need to keep them alive no matter what.
Abyssal Mask - This item is very strong if both teams are mostly AP. The increased damage output may not be obvious at first but the synergy is insane with Singed as he’s usually found in the middle of the enemy team and can apply the aura to 3-4 enemy champions at any given time.
Thornmail OR Randuin's Omen - These are my go to Armor/HP items during the late game. Randuin's Omen is better when 2+ enemy champions are building crit items ( Yasuo + Jinx, for instance) but you’re usually better off with Thornmail otherwise. Since they now share the same attack speed reducing passive, you can no longer get both of them without wasting stats.
Frozen Heart - An incredibly strong purchase vs teams with multiple auto attack reliant champions. Nevertheless, since it offers no HP I wouldn’t recommend getting a Frozen Heart until you already have 3-4 completed items. Regardless, this item is a life saver vs that late game Kog'Maw or Master Yi. Combined with one of the AS reducing items mentioned above and you’ll be slowing the enemy ADC’s attack speed by 27.75%.
Elixir of Iron - The tenacity, HP, and passive from Elixir of Iron are very strong and have great synergy with Singed. However, I would only get this if you’re either already at full build and have gold to waste or you just got Baron/Elder Dragon and want to fight or push to end the game.

Playstyle

Singed’s playstyle varies greatly depending on the matchup. In lanes where your ADC is aggressive and dominates the laning phase (usually with a Draven or Jhin), you can afford to constantly force pressure and start fights with the enemy botlane. However, in lanes where your ADC wants to do nothing but farm to late game (such as those with a Twitch or Vayne), you’ll generally want to play safe and focus on providing peel. Nevertheless, your playstyle should always be flexible and accommodate for that of your ADC’s.

With that being said, the majority of the time Singed’s early laning phase is focused on surviving without getting poked to death. Nevertheless, whenever your jungler is on the way or the enemy overextends, look for an opportunity to make a play. At level 6, you win the 2v2 in ~80% of lanes, so don’t be afraid to force objectives or play aggressively whenever your ultimate is up or about to come up. After 6 you need to decide between roaming around the map and making plays or forcing an end to laning phase by taking bot tower. Nevertheless, if you screwed up and died in lane, you can also attempt to prolong laning phase, but this is not ideal as you’ll give up map pressure and hinder yourself, as one of support Singed’s greatest strengths lies in early-mid game teamfights.

In the mid game, you’ll have a very strong powerspike as soon as you finish your Eye of the Equinox. During this stage of the game, you will be incredibly tanky, especially when you have your ultimate up. Be constantly looking for opportinities to force teamfights or follow up on engages from your team. Along with being slippery and very difficult to kill, you will also do a decent amount of damage from your base stats alone even when the enemy team decides to ignore you.

Once late game hits, enemy carries will begin building Last Whisper or Void Staff and will finally be able to shred through your tank stats. However, you can still have a very relevant impact on the game. During this stage your objective should no longer be to dive headfirst into the enemy team. Instead, focus on providing utilities and peel to your damage dealers while forcing the enemy team to waste their cooldowns and crowd control effects.
