Introduction
You may be asking why i built her so tanky for a mage? Thanks to her Venomous Bite and Neurotoxin she will not be needing a lot of ability power to do damage. If you want an Ap Carry Elise, you may want to buy Rabaddon's Deathcap instead of Warmog's Armor. If you want her spider form to be more effective you can buy Nashor's Tooth instead of Lich Bane. She will get a %25 cooldown reduction from it and attack much more faster, so when she is in Skittering Frenzy. she will heal more. The last change may be the boots. Instead of Sorcerer's Shoes you may buy Boots of Swiftness but i do not recomend that since you have Rylai's Scepter. It can only help you when you are running because Elise's movement speed is still low when she is in spider form. Still i would go with Sorcerer's Shoes.
+Tanky for a mage role but still can do decent damage to the enemy champions
+Can assassinate fleeing enemys thanks to her Rappel.
+She doesn't need to afraid being close to the enemy team thanks to her tanky build
+She can use her spider form effectively thanks to her tankiness.
+Rylai's Scepter will allow her to easily catch enemy champion she is trying to catch, and she can use her Skittering Frenzy effectively.
-In early game, she may have a hard time running from ganks unless she is near the jungle creeps she can use her Rappel on.
-In earlygame (Until she gets Rylai's Scepter) she may have big problem catching enemy champions even in spider form because her base movement speed is not high enough

I haven't played any ranked games with her so i won't be guessing anything i don't know, but i suggest you to master her in a lot of pvp's because she is a little hard to master. When you are confident with your skills, you may try some ranked games to see how you are. The most important thing you should know when you are going to a ranked game is; if you are better in jungle. or in lane with her.
AT the start of teamfights, i suggest you to stay back and use your human form skills and lower enemy teams health. When you think that they are low enough, pick a target champion and use your remaining human form skills on him or her then go into spider form and attack the champion. I don't suggest that you use your Rappel on first attack because Rappel has a long cooldown that may allow the enemy champion to run away from you. Keep it unused until the champ you are pursuing is getting away from you. After Rappeling on the fleeing champion you may change to human form again and use you skills on him or her before you again go to the spider form.
