I despise Fiora, Fiora is one of the most frustrating champions to play against, you have to play safe untill you are ahead or just never fight her. The only time you can fight her is if you have ignite, griveous wounds AND sheen. She is almost impossible to fight.
Yorick
After the buffs this champion is very strong. Do not get caught by his wall at ALL COSTS! Always sit under a barrel and don't let yourself get hit by E. Play the lane safe and wait for your jungler.
Darius
People tend to have problems with this champion which is quite understandable due to his trading potential with Q and passive. He can turn the fight around any second if you're not careful enough BUT once you get the hang of this matchup he's fairly easy to manage. Sit under a barrel and don't get E'd and you should be fine.
Aatrox
This champion cannot lose to Gangplank. Unless you're the best GP ever you have basically no chance against this guy. He just spams Q and then dashes to you just to heal up all the trade damage you dealt to him. Trading is almost griefing against this guy. Do not 1v1 him unless he's extremely low and you have ignite/grievous wounds.
Garen
This champion cannot fight Gangplank. Just sit under a barrel all lane and poke him with Q, long trades aren't recommended, just passive auto, Q him with grasp all the time and force him out of lane. Once you get sheen he's done for.
Nasus
I'm not sure why but I always lose to Nasus as Gangplank. Since Gangplank's early game punish isn't that strong without sheen, his lifesteal is just too much to manage. You can't kill him early unless he just goes in like a mad dog and you will die once he gets 100 stacks and sheen. Play smart, maybe take ignite.
Illaoi
If you take ignite you win. Beware of her bull**** healing and tentacles damage. That's all really.
Dr. Mundo
Just take ignite and rush Executioner's calling, he stands no chance.
Gnar
This champion is just bottom barrel *********. It has basically no counterplay once Mega form and he just kites you endlessly later resulting to being a stronger bruiser than anything. Watch out for this guy.
Tryndamere
Tryndamere is an easy matchup early for Gangplank, pre level 6 Tryndamere is horrible and if you take ignite he cannot fight. Punish his weakness by putting a barrel to the minion wave so he can't CS, hit the barrels so you get grasp and just bang him to base.
Jax
Early game you win hard, but once he gets BotRK... you can just ff. Since he has a free dash + stun it means you basically cannot trade him once he gets an item.
Irelia
I despise this champion just as much as Fiora. I can never decide who to ban, either Irelia or Fiora. This champion just stuns you with it's E and you can basically go AFK. Ignite is necesseary to get any kill pressure against this beast and if she gets an level up on you you're dead. Try to play agressive for level 2, it's a fight for who gets the level up quicker, then it's not that terrible unless you get hit by one thing. Seriously, stupid champion.
Urgot
Urgot is very annoying due to his long ranged autoattacks and you having to be very cautious of your barrel placement, rather than using your barrels to trade just try to farm up and poke him with Q, the worst part is he does outscale you so your only chance is to poke him but not with barrels... very tricky. You can cleanse his ult though.
Mordekaiser
This guy did get buffed, but he is still hot garbage against you. You can easily poke him and he's immobile! Just spam Q and barrels on him and you'll make him go AFK with a sheen.
Riven
Riven flavored matchup, not impossible though. You HAVE TO sit under barrels and don't blow them unless she rushes you, if you're not a very skilled Gangplank probably ask for junglers help. Ignite is recommended, not necesseary though.
Gragas
Gragas is a pain to deal with. He outheals, outdamages and has more utility than you, you do outscale in late game but you just get poked to death by Gragas with comet.
Malphite
Malphite is the same as Gragas, but a bit stronger. He just Q's you for 150 level 4 which is basically your whole trading potential early and then once you're low he ults you level 6 and unless you expect it and flash it you're dead. Very bad matchup.
Ahri
This is unwinnable. I don't like being negative, but this 9 tailed weeb anime girl just can't be beat by the Plank. Ask for jungler's help, if she freezes you can basically just stay under tower since she cannot die to you. She outdashes your barrels, has a lower CD on charm than you on your orange, and does more damage than you.
Yasuo
Easy lane. Just poke him. Duskblade or Prowler's Claw recommended for ultimate one-shot.
Yone
A little stronger than Yasuo due to his Q dash but fairly easy to manage just like Yasuo. He scales much better than him so beware of his late game.
Kayle
This match-up is samiliar to Tryndamere. Punish her pre six levels and then try to somehow outscale her. She becomes very powerful with 6 due to her long range autoattacks, more damage ect...
Kled
Kled just goes HAM dude. This guy will never go defensive, and he has a few good reasons to, he is fairly tanky yet he does a **** ton of damage, you're not tanky at all so he can basically one shot you, and he is VERY mobile, so he can take TP + ignite and still be more mobile than you, kinda stupid. Sit under barrels and ask for jungler's help, otherwise... just play safe.
Shen
You will make this guy cry by the time you get sheen. He can't trade you since his only damage comes from autoattacking and you can just blow up a barrel and run away from him then waiting for his Q and passive to run off and Qing him, and doing this over and over again... fun stuff.
Rengar
Rengar is super broken. If you're in a match against Rengar as Gangplank, rush Shieldbow and Plated Steelcaps. I am not kidding when I say this matchup is almost unwinnable for you. You have to sit on barrels but he can jump on them so you have to be aware 24/7, super annoying.
Teemo
Teemo is annoying, but if you hit a barrel on this rat he just dies. Ignite is good against him since he takes it as well so you have the same kill pressure. He will hurt early levels sure but level 4-6 he's dead.
Renekton
Even though Renekton is very broken, Gangplank can easily manage him in lane. You just sit under a barrel that is in the minion wave so he can't farm and he falls off, remember though, he has 2 dashes and a **** ton of damage, so he can turn around at you and do a "mechanical" outplay and W Q you for half of your health, always keep an orange in your pocket.
Wukong
This monkey is SO ******* FRUSTRATING! He has dashes, knock-up, armor pen on Q, auto attack reset and A CLONE! This champion is almost unplayable against if he gets sheen on you, rush Plated Steelcaps and play safe.
Camille
Nobody likes to play against Camille. It is stupid, annoying and strong. She just jumps at you and stuns you, then slows you and meanwhile she charges up her second Q and does a Cho'Gath ult damage on one ability. Play safe.
Lucian
Now people don't play Lucian much anymore, but this champion is freaking busted. His kit was basically made to counter yours, his double tap instantly deletes your barrels, he outdamages you, and even if he doesn't focus your barrels he can just dash from the range! Stupid champion, play extremely safe.
Sett
I genuienly don't understand how people lose to this guy. He's been nerfed to the ground, even more than Akali, Azir, Irelia or even Gangplank. Play safe untill sheen and then just bop him. Early levels he does hurt but you've got oranges, all is K. You can even orange yourself from his ult, how silly is that?
Rumble
You can't really play the game against Rumble, he burns your health down, has a shield against your poke and outscales, very bad matchup.
Singed
Early game he has a chance, but if you get Divine or Trinity he is just done for.
Akali
Akali is strong in late game after the rework, so you can actually play the game early against her now. She is still Akali so a good Akali can wreck you early as well, but if she's not good I wouldn't recommend playing safe, go all in boys.
She is ranged, and she will outscale you, but if you take ignite and you can somewhat barrel her you should win.
Volibear
You cannot fight him. Ever. Don't even try it, you will die.
Fizz
You beat Fizz, sit under a barrel and if he tries to fight just wait for him to drop on you and barrel him up.
Cho'Gath
Now Cho'Gath is pretty strong right now and Gangplank can't fight him that much, but early game level 2-3 you should win. Look out for his Q as it enables him a knock-up + silence and 3 slows in a row, leading to you being fairly easy to chomp down level 6 or easy to get ganked.
Maokai
Maokai has no chance against you. He heals a little but if you get Executioner's calling he just doesn't, the trade goes = passive, barrel, passive, auto, Q, and if he goes in again after a while you should probably kill him.
Ornn
Ornn is tanky, and he does outscale you a lot. So the move to winning this lane is to punish his weakness in early game, just like many other tanks and then going in level 4-6, look out for his ult though, it slows, knockups and does about 300 damage.
Azir
Azir beats GP HARD. Do not attempt to trade him, just farm up and try to cause an impact with TP top or just try and roam if you're mid.
Leona
Leona is broken with all of the CC, you need a CC monster in a team anyways.
Alistar
Alistar is samiliar to Leona but has much more peeling, sacrifice is a bit less CC.
Udyr
Good for setting up teamfights and ganks.
Amumu
Amazing in to team fights.
Sion
The only time you will have a Sion is if you go mid, but when you do... the synergies are amazing.
Twisted Fate
Twisted Fate is an amazing teamfighter, he has a stun on one person only though.
Ivern
INVISIBLE BARRELS BRUV
Gragas
The barreling duo, only problem is he can ult enemies from your barrels lol.
Jhin
If the Jhin can land his ult and W it's a free catch off.
Gangplank
Gangplank one for all sucks lol

Hello, my name is Dorom I have been playing League of Legends for over a year now and this is my first ever guide, I am currently gold 4, I also main Sion and Jhin, I have been gold 2 a few times and last season I was silver. Now you may be thinking: "Am I really going to listen to a gold 4 Gangplank player?" and I don't blame you honestly. I have much to learn but I still think you should hear my tips out and maybe you'll learn something here! :)
About Gangplank
Gangplank is a very underappreciated champion in my opinion, his teamfighting potential and dueling on the lane is insane if played correctly and I highly recommend trying to pick him up since he is very fun, and he is still fairly in the meta. There is definetly stronger picks, but Gangplank is worth playing. He offers a lot of utility because of his ult, has insane damage and even 1v2 potential if you can play it right. Gangplank has a lot of potential for learning and this guide should help you with the pretty much basics.
Pros
Pros: - Strong passive - High damage output - Amazing teamfights - Amazing splitpusher - Free cleanse - Strong late game - Amazing teamfights
Cons
Cons: - Almost no mobility - High skill ceiling - Squishy early game - Mana problems - Expensive core items
Is Gangplank worth it?
Now is Gangplank REALLY worth it? The answer is... yes, yes he is. Due to the utility and damage he can cause if played correctly is insane, yet he takes months and months to practice. Gangplank is something like that one champion that is still gripped on to the back of the meta, and always will be there or better. Gangplank is and will forever be good. You cannot change that, unless they'd rework him but what is the point in that? The reason I picked Gangplank is because he is just so ******* fun and it feels so good to pull him off, the combos, the possibilites with the champion are basically almost endless. Gangplank has never felt like a boring champion to me, and this is exactly the reason why, because every one-part I hit, every kill I steal with ult and get pinged to infinity, feels like an improvement, and that is the pure embodiment of fun. Learning a new and interesting champion. So yes, Gangplank is very worth it, and I hope you will be as determined as me with improving and playing this champion.
