Introduction

This build is for this bear called Volibear. Yes he hits people with lightning and yes he is as badass as he looks.

Runes

Alright so you want these runes because they will help you jungle with the armor pen and attack speed. You can consider putting on armor/magic resist runes but I prefer the attack speed to boost your ult. Movement speed quints because you're a jungler, you need to gank, so you'll be able to catch up and Q (Rolling Thunder) whoever you are ganking.

Masteries

With the revamped masteries I found that the 0/21/9 set up is great for Volibear. It will make him nice and beefy and there is that new movement speed mastery that helps too. Why 9 in utility? well you get some more movement speed plus add to your buff duration, nice for jungle. So now with your runes, masteries, and abilities you will be able to catch anyone and stick with them.

Items

First off keep in mind that you don't always need to get Mercury's Treads, they are usually what you get since you are the tank and melee fighter so the tenacity helps for any CC but berserker's are nice for the attack speed. Use your judgement!

So starting items are similar to some junglers but where it differs is instead of getting a Madred's to build into a bloodrazer or lantern I get a Bligewater Cutlass. Ya my bear rocks a cutlass! Having another slow up your sleeve is what will make your ganks so successful. In addition it can be built into a gunblade which will add even more power to your E (Majestic Roar) and your ult. Also use your judgement whether to get the cutlass for or treads.

Getting CC too much when ganking? get treads first.

Ganking shifty champions like Fizz or Vayne? pick up the cutlass to slow them down and kill them.

After you have your treads and cutlass you want to build your warmongs so you can starting getting tanky. WARMOGS IS A MUST! it will make you really thick and makes your W (Frenzy) cast hit hard. Follow that up with Wit's End and Atma's. If you find yourself a bit behind because of an early death or you get cut down too quickly it helps to pick up the Chain Vest and/or Null-Magic Mantle before actually finishing up one of the items. I recommend getting Wit's End first because it gives a great boost to your attack speed.

At this point I like to finish up the gunblade so you can hit very hard plus the spell vamp will help a little with sustainability while ulting. For your final item almost anything will help you in some way but i recommend getting some kind of tank item like a Guardian Angel, Randuin's Omen, or Banshee's Vail.

Summoner Spells

Smite obviously because you are a jungler.

Flash so you can flash in for the gank, flash away from the team fight if you get low, escape from a counter jungle etc.

Ghost is also pretty good

Skill Sequence

Chosen of the Storm (Passive): Once falling under 30% health Volibear Regenerates 30% of health over 6 seconds.

Great passive for a tank/fighter. This can help you lure your opponents as you try to DPS it out with another fighter but where it really shines is in teamfights. As you find yourself team fighting and all of the sudden getting dangerously low and the passive triggers, run away. Ya just run away hide our for a few seconds for the healing to finish and then jump back in. Turned around so many team fights this way.

Thunder Claws (Q): On activate Volibear gets a 45% movement speed increase if he runs towards an enemy champion and makes his next attack fling the target behind him, 4 seconds to use this.

This skills helps a lot with ganks, can be used to initiate team fights, and disrupt channeling abilities. The skill is pretty simple its just like Singed's fling but you get a nice movement speed boost when running at enemies. When ganking make sure you position yourself so that you throw the enemy say towards your team mates or away from the enemy's tower. For team fights you can always sprint in and shoot back someone for your team to focus down. And for abilities like Fiddle's crow storm, drain, or Nunu's ult you can use this to disrupt it.

Frenzy (W): For each attack Volibear's attack speed is increased, this stacks up to three times. On reaching three stacks it allows him to bite his target dealing damage ( + a percentage of Volibear's bonus health), and the damage dealt is increased depending on how much health the target is missing.

Takes a little while to explain but its simple to use. Keeping hitting whatever you want and then bite it or whatever is close to you, preferably something that has quite a bit of damage dealt to it already. Always keep in mind that the damage increases depending on how much health your enemy is missing so sometimes not using it right away is a smarter idea. It will take some time so you know when you can use this for the finisher/kill shot.

Majestic Roar (E): Volibear roars dealing damage and slowing enemies. Fears creeps.

Pick this up to help jungle and so you can slow down whoever you want to gank. When ganking use this or your cutlass to slow down your enemy so you can fling them back and then immediately follow it up with your other slow (You shouldn't need to use both to catch them) so once you turn around you can just smack them up. In a perfect situation you'll fling them back and then chain slow.

Thunder Claws (R, Ultimate): Volibear's basic attacks deal extra damage and chain to 4 other nearby targets.

Turn this on whenever you gank or team fight and you'll do massive damage to your target and also hurt everyone else around you. This is why you need attack speed on Volibear, so you can truly benefit from this ult you need to hit as fast as possible.

Normal Skill Sequence:

Engage with Q > Slow with E or Cutlass > after fling > Slow with other > Ultimate > ATTACK > once they are low W

Creeping / Jungling

Standard jungle run starting with blue. Get someone to leash for you. Then to Wolves. Wraiths. Red. If you see a gank opportunity Recall to pick up boots health pot and a ward. Gank. Yea you will only be level three but it's fine you have all three abilities and thats all you need to make a successful gank.

On the first jungle run I find what works well is that you hit the main creep once (Red Wolf, Purple Wraith, Bigger Golem, Buff giving creep) then use your E. This will allow you to hit them 1 more time, just so you get that stack, before you take any damage.
