Champion Build Guide

I'm also known as Jordanian Sniper, Lejhind, or Jhin Marston on other accounts. I dislike traditional carries and enjoy playing champions like Jhin, Pantheon, Veigar, and Yasuo bot lane. Aphelios shares a lot in common with Jhin. He was designed to be an ADC which requires more thinking and to be the "GALAXY BRAIN" adc to play if you wanted to show off combos! |
Naturally, I've come to enjoy playing Aphelios and have decided to add him to my champion pool and wanted to work on a guide for him alongside Jhin. Aphelios is a non-tradtional marksman. Instead of a reload mechanic like Jhin. He completely gets rid of the gun and gets new guns. Has a lot of cool interactions with each other and each gun has 50 bullets. Disclaimer: Aphelios is a new champion and this guide is by no means perfect. On release, I plan to continue playing him and will update the guide whenever I learn more and improve upon it. |

The Hitman and the Seer
INNATE: Aphelios has access to an arsenal of 5 Moonstone Weapons, created by his sister Alune. He equips two weapons at any one time, one as his main weapon and one as his off-hand. Each weapon has a unique basic attack and passive effect. Aphelios begins the game with Calibrum as his main weapon and Severum in his off-hand, with Gravitum, Infernum, and Crescendum queued in reserve. The queue order can be rearranged based on weapon usage. MOONLIGHT: Weapons spawn with 50 Moonlight for ammunition, which is consumed on basic attacks or to cast his Q abilities. Abilities that cause Aphelios to attack do not cost additional Moonlight on top of their ability cost. Once his main weapon is exhausted of Moonlight, it is moved to the end of the queue and Aphelios equips the next available weapon from his reserve. WEAPON MASTER: Aphelios cannot improve his abilities with skill points. He starts the game with Phase and gains access to Q abilities at level 2. He gains access to Moonlight Vigil Moonlight Vigil at level 6, which improves automatically at levels 11 and 16. Instead, Aphelios may spend his skill points to gain bonus attack damage, bonus attack speed or armor penetration. |
The active effect of Aphelios' Q ability varies based on his current main hand weapon. The individual actives do not share a cooldown. |
Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle
INNATE: Aphelios gains 100 bonus range while Calibrum is his main weapon. PRECISION: Enemies damaged by Calibrum via an ability are marked for 4.5 seconds, revealing them for the duration. Aphelios's next basic attack against a marked target uses the current off-hand weapon and gains Range icon global range. This attack will consume all marks, dealing 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (based on level) (+ 40% bonus AD) bonus physical damage per mark to the initial target. If Calibrum is the current off-hand weapon, the empowered attack uses the main weapon instead. |
Moonshot
Severum, the Scythe Pistol
INNATE: Basic attacks with Severum don't use projectiles. RESURGENT: Severum's attacks heal him for 8% − 25% (based on level) of damage dealt. Healing from Severum in excess of Aphelios' maximum health is converted into a shield for an amount of up to 10 − 140 (based on level) (+ 6% maximum health), lasting for up to 30 seconds. |
Onslaught
Gravitum, The Gravity Cannon
INNATE - BINDING: Gravitum applies a 30% slow that decays over 3.5 seconds. |
Binding Eclipse
Infernum, the Flamethrower
INNATE - INCENDIARY: Infernum deals 110% AD physical damage to the target and spray four firebolts in a cone behind them, each dealing 75 / 100% (based on level) AD physical damage to enemies hit, reduced to 34 / 45% (based on level) AD physical damage against minions. Critical strikes spray eight firebolts over a X% wider cone and deal bonus damage. |
Duskwave
Crescendum, the Chakram
INNATE: Basic attacks with Crescendum hurl the blade at the target, which lingers for 0.25 seconds before homing back to Aphelios. He is disarmed until he retrieves Crescendum, but the attack timer is reset once caught. ARCING: Whenever Aphelios casts an ability that would require him to throw Crescendum, he instead throws a spectral Chakram at his target that similarly returns to him. Aphelios accumulates the Chakrams he catches, up to 20, which last for 5 seconds. Attacks against champions and epic monsters will refresh the lifespan on Chakrams. Basic attacks with Crescendum deal 30 / X% AD (based on number of Chakrams) bonus physical damage. The bonus damage from Chakrams can critically strike. |
Sentry
Phase
ACTIVE: Aphelios switches between his main weapon and off-hand weapon. |
Moonlight Vigil
ACTIVE: Aphelios casts forth a lunar spotlight that stops upon illuminating an enemy champion. Alune smites the area centered on the illuminated enemy, dealing 125 / 175 / 225 (based on level) (+ 20% bonus AD) (+ 100% AP) physical damage and locking-on to each enemy hit. After a delay, basic attacks will begin raining from the sky based on Aphelios' current main weapon, one upon each enemy locked-on by Moonlight Vigil. These attacks can critically strike for (50% + 18.75%) AD bonus physical damage. There is no range limit for locked-on targets.

Crit Aphelios

On-hit Aphelios
To keep it simple, these builds will amplify your auto-attacking and on-hit interactions with all of your guns! The main difference you'll need to know is that going manamune gives you access to mana as well as the manamune passive adding extra damage when fully stacked. Meanwhile, Blade of the ruined king is the more traditional route to on-hit with providing attack speed, lifesteal, 8% of target's current health, as well as an active to slow the enemy down and speed you up which can prove very resourceful when kiting! |
You can choose to skip Wit's End or IE in favor of Situational items if required.
Situational items
Death's Dance Solid lifesteal item. 30% of damage taken is dealt as a bleed effect over 3 seconds which makes it ideal against burst enemies. |
Mercurial Scimitar Lifesteal item which provides an active to remove CC and a speeds you up by 50% for 1 second. |
Guardian Angel Considering you're immobile and very easy to one shot. GA can prove useful in the mid-late game teamfight if it's becoming overwhelming to survive certain champions. |
Last Whisper If you're going Crit or On-hit and feel the enemy has a significant amount of armor. Consider taking one of the last whispers to help you with that. |
Maw Of Malmortius Provides AD, MR, and CDR with a magic shield and lifeline passive that gives you additional AD as well as spell vamp + lifesteal if you get low. |
Boots
Berserker's Greaves Gives you +35% attack speed so this is the boot you want to go when you want "more damage". |
Boots Of Swiftness If you want an extra 10 ms and reduce the effectiveness of slows so you're a little bit less immobile! |
Mercury's Treads MR boots so if the enemy has a lot of magic damage in lane or in the team comp then this is the choice to make |
Ninja Tabi Gives armor and reduces 12% damage from incoming auto attacks. Very efficient against full AD teams. |
Laning Phase
Riot really did take the laning phase in consideration with the way his guns are lined up. The first two guns you start with is Calibrum the Sniper Rifle and Severum the Scythe Pistol. The Sniper Rifle will be used to poke the enemy with auto-attacks or laning Q's and marking them. Secondly, you'll have the pistol which provides a lot of healing. So whenever you lose HP due to trading, getting poked, or fighting make sure to use the pistol to heal that lost HP back! The third gun after one of these are gun will be Gravitum the Gravity Cannon and you'll want to use it to snare someone to make a play in the 2v2. Then comes Infernum the Flamethrower which can be used to shove the lane, gain Chakram stacks, or straight up right click the enemy or minions to get bounced off damage. Lastly, you'll have Crescendum the Chakram to setup plays with Q or gain stacks to have high DPS in skirmishes. |
Most Useful Combos + Mid-late Game
The best advice I can give you here is that you need to understand you are immobile. If played right, your damage output is high, but you will be very easy to assassinate. Be wary of your positioning at all times and the enemy threats that might one shot you. Now with that out of the way, I'll tell you some gun pairs you might want to have ready in fights. Chakram + Sniper Rifle: Can create turrets that mark enemies and you'll be auto attacking the enemy from infinite range with high burst potential and maximum safety for you! |
I've enjoyed what I've been able to play with Aphelios so far. He feels familiar to the style of Jhin so I plan on adding him to my champion pool and improving on him. As I get better at him and a meta evolves I will do my best to add more information to this guide as well as keep it updated! Thanks for reading everyone! Special thanks to Hopper for banners and coding. |
