Avoid engaging pre-level 3, rush Steelcaps ASAP, try to bait out her W as your Q Sweet Spots and W pull give her a free stun and play around its CD
Irelia
Always try predicting her last-hit target, disengage from her Q or R with your E as it puts her behind you, if she doesn't manage to last hit a minion with Q try to hit your W before all-in-ing, get Steelcaps 1st B, in Late Game you always need Chainsword
Kled
Vayne
ADCs are strong against Juggernauts so she will outscale you in Late Game no matter what but you can punish her in Early Game with W's pull as her Q doesn't have short CD, rush Steelcaps ASAP and get DD as third
Akali
Not really a hard matchup if you play aggressively pre-level 3, your Q2 and Q3 can outplay her E dashes and hit her without vision in her W but it's really difficult to pull her with W chain after level 6
Darius
Your main tip is to not let him fully stack his Passive any time you trade so avoid engaging pre-level 3, the best way to counter his E if he catches you is preparing Q (especially the 3rd one) and then hit your W which is easy as he has no mobility, poke by using your longer range before going in for the kill
Gnar
Illaoi
Her damage becomes very limited when her E is on CD so staying behind minions and playing around it is your best strategy, she has no mobility to resist on your W chain, Bramble Vest is the best you can buy at your 1st back, Late Game becomes a Skill Matchup so Chainsword is the best option
Jax
Now that a lot of items have been changed he's no more a hard matchup, can be punished after using Q and harder for E so try not to get your Passive or W countered or your Q dodged, if you struggle in Early get Steelcaps 1st B, Late Game becomes very hard for you
Mordekaiser
His Early Game isn't as strong as yours but you should avoid taking extended trades, he has no mobility to resist on your W chain and can't trigger Passive without pulling you, if he manages to pull you just prepare Q, if he gets Anti-Heal rush Hexdrinker, Late Game becomes a Skill Matchup
Tahm Kench
After his W and R replaces he is a bit easier to fight, don't push the lane against him, dodge his Q by standing behind minions or E-ing, get Steelcaps 1st B
Olaf
Easier matchup than you think: If he doesn't get a lead in Early he falls off hard. Avoid fighting pre-level 3, look for poke opportunities any time he throws Q, after level 6 just run away when he casts R, you also scale better in Late if you farm well
Renekton
Try to deny him as much Fury and farm as possible pre-level 3, avoid fighting him when his Fury is full, use W after his double E, Exe Calling in Early or Chainsword in Late is needed
Riven
Rumble
Sett
Use Q1 before getting hit by his E and he becomes very easy to kite, get Steelcaps 1st B, your E can punish him hard by dodging his W center, he can't do a lot to resist on your W chain
Trundle
Urgot
Try not to get hit by his E at level 1, pre-level 6 is in your favour but you have to rush Steelcaps 1st so his R won't be a problem, Late Game becomes a Skill Matchup
Yasuo
Poking him at level 1 will give an advantage at next levels, after level 2 always try predicting his E locations to hit Q's, W is almost guaranteed if he doesn't tap E or R
Gangplank
Garen
Avoid fighting at level 1, use W after his Q to punish his slow cleanse and make him completely immobile so you can hit your Q Sweet Spots, after level 6 have your 1st Q used every time before approaching him
Malphite
Easier matchup than you think: He has a very weak Early so he doesn't reduce your damage, look for opportunities to hit Q's any time he tries to Q you, harrass him while he tries to CS, after level 6 be careful when you try to dive him
Ryze
Singed
Teemo
This matchup supports the reason D-Shield is the best starter. Avoid letting him land too many AAs on you at level 1, your E's Omnivamp is a big resist against both his Q and E, W pull easily gives you a kill
Tryndamere
His level 1 is much stronger except if you manage to stop his E dash which is also hard so avoiding to engage is recommended, when you reach level 2 pre-level 6 is in your favour so deny him as much Fury as possible and get Steelcaps 1st, after he uses E you can punish him hard with your W, Randuin's is ideal as he scales better in Late Game
Vladimir
Since he has a weak Early and deals almost no damage you can't avoid poking him when he goes to Q on minions, the only point where he becomes a problem is the Late Game
Yorick
Kayle
Easy threat in Early Game as she's got no Damage or Mobility to get out from your W but Hard in Late Game as her Attack Speed is greatly increased
Nasus
He is known as one of Aatrox's easiest matchups but you shouldn't hurry trading with him as you should 1st see what ability he unlocks at level 1 (Q or E), your Q doesn't struggle against his W so Ability Haste Items are the best you can build as he also scales better in Late Game, when he gets stacks get Steelcaps, Chainsword is ideal for Late Game
Shen
Being a Spell Caster counters his W, hitting the Sweet Spots makes him waste his R, he can only escape from your W chains so make sure his E is on CD
Dr. Mundo
MUCH easier than the old Mundo
Amumu
Great jungler pick for both ganking and teamfighting with Aatrox as his stuns help you hit your Q Sweet Spots easily
Cassiopeia
Her W is the most helpful Spell for you as you struggle against mobile champs and her R stun duration is enough for you to approach the enemy and hit your Q Sweet Spots
Leona
One of the most compatible champs, stunning enemies all the time is just free Sweet Spots for you
Thresh
If you get a lead in Early you can dominate in Late thanks to his perfect timing Q and E CC
Yuumi
Perma healing and if both get a lead they can just 2v5
Annie
Her stun is what you need to hit a Q Sweet Spot easily and just like Yasuo and Yone's Q requirements, wait for her to prepare her Passive so she can stun multiple enemies and help you chase your target
Ahri
Ashe
Even if her R helps a lot, her AAs make it easier for you to hit your Q's
Heimerdinger
Jarvan IV
Very good for teamfighting as his R locks enemies
Jax
Nautilus
Not as compatible as other Tanks as your Q's can cancel knockups, his Passive is the best for you
Yasuo
Come on... you know his R has an interaction on your Q's Sweet Spots so try to knock up as many enemies as possible for him
Alistar
When he casts W always start engaging with yours to not cancel his Q knockup

Hello, guys. I am BarbarianDarkin, an Aatrox main who reached Gold 2 rank in Season 13. For those who don't know, Aatrox's difficulty is higher than you think as he needs a smart strategy to win Early Game easily, even if he has easy mechanics. On this guide I'll explain why. Be sure to read my chapters well because they have explanations about his insights and more. Good luck!
Pros And Cons
PROS
+Strong Early Game +No struggle against CC +Team Synergies in Late Game +Feel the Omnivamp enough
-Long CDs in Early Game -Vulnerable To Ganks -Easily killed in Late Game -Heavy Item Dependance
Aatrox's Q- The Darkin Blade has a long CD in the Early Game so make sure you don't use them pointless. You can go to Practice Tool and search for the walls you can pass with E- Umbral Dash. Building Tanky Items is the best option for Late Games.

PRECISION
Aatrox's most compatible keystone is Conqueror. Its Life Steal and Spell Vamp Passive is the most compatible part because it can stack along with his own from Passive- Deathbringer Stance and his E- Umbral Dash.
Triumph is the best part for Aatrox because it restores some of your missing HP after a takedown. It can also be useful in Teamfights to have the chance for being more aggressive and keep fighting.
These are the most recommended secondary runes for Aatrox. They increase his Omnivamp but also protect him when he goes for trades.
This is your Starting Item. Compared to Doran's Blade this is more recommended for HP regen as Aatrox should never push his lane for avoiding enemy ganks.
One of them is bought along with Doran's Shield as soon as a game starts.
This is Aatrox's Mythic Item to increase his damage and HP and to be tougher in fights using its Active.
This is Aatrox's second Core Item as it reduces his cooldowns drastically.
These are the most common built Boots on Aatrox. You will build them usually on Top Lane.
This is recommended for third item as it helps surviving with its Passive.
This is another option for being tougher in fights.
Aatrox usually doesn't build Lethality Items but this is compatible with his Q- The Darkin Blade because it gives him an advantage after hitting a Sweet Spot.
You can upgrade Bramble Vest or get the whole item as your third or last one for grevious wounds and more Armor.
You can upgrade Spectre's Cowl as your third item or get the whole item as your last one for increased MR.
Laning Phase
As Aatrox you shouldn't push during the Laning Phase because you are vulnerable to ganks pre-level 6 right after using E- Umbral Dash and your Q- The Darkin Blade deals reduced damage against minions. At level 1 you'll be starting with it and you won't be as strong but you can still poke some champions who have a disadvantage at this level and many advantages at next levels (e.g. Renekton and Akali). Some others have a big advantage at that point but disadvantages at next levels (e.g. Darius and Urgot) so you shouldn't engage level 1 or 2.
There are 3 tricks Aatrox can do with E- Umbral Dash that you probably didn't know before:
-Change position with a dash while Q- The Darkin Blade is prepared
-Reset Auto Attack Timer
-Pass through walls (you can't pass through every wall)
At your 1st recall you should have 1100g so you can buy Ironspike Whip for more offense or Plated Steelcaps, Mercury's Treads or Spectre's Cowl. When you go for trades you should play around your enemy's mobility or else they will easily dodge your Q- The Darkin Blade's Sweet Spots or get out from your W- Infernal Chains after they get hit. The 2 next Q- The Darkin Blade casts need E- Umbral Dash or Flash more than the 1st one because the more Q- The Darkin Blade's you cast, the more CD, the shorter range and the more damage it will deal so they shouldn't be wasted until you have reached at least level 9. If your E- Umbral Dash is on CD after using Q1, you can use Q2's side to hit from longer range. When you get your R- World Ender at level 6, you 'll have increased Damage, Omnivamp, MS and you'll be less vulnerable to ganks as you can also 1v2. It forces your enemies to retreat because you usually have the upper hand in the Early Game.
Late Game
Aatrox's Q- The Darkin Blade's can knock up many enemies simultaneously and they also have a very short CD in Late Game but their animations are both a strength and a weakness that prevent him carrying a game alone as they make him not struggle against CC and are slow and telegraphed so Tanks and Healing Supports are ideal synergies either for killing an enemy quickly by CC-ing them or healing yourself multiple times. W- Infernal Chains should be used only against immobile champions, especially ADCs or Mages because their MS and position can easily get controlled. When your team starts a Teamfight you should prepare R- World Ender for increased Damage and Omnivamp and reset its duration by taking down as many enemies as you can.
Mechanics
For max Q range you should read E's dash and cast Flash right before Q ends
