Beware, if the Gnar is good and knows how to play this matchup, it will be very hard for you to farm or find an advantage in lane. A good Gnar will rush Plated Steelcaps especially if you have an AD jungler making it even harder to all in him or even catch up to him with his Hyper procs. Gnar's harass with Grasp makes it annoying to get minions or even walk up at all. Unlike other ranged champions, Gnar can transform into Mega Gnar once his bar fills with high increased stats and CC that often leave Renekton begging for a buff.

I would not say that I have mastered this champion but I have a deep understanding of how to play lane and carry games with Renetkon in low elo. I draw major inspiration from Godrekton, RTO, SRO, Romanium, and Panther. this guide in entirely OC and I copied nothing, but did in fact learn a lot from these players over the years. Feel free to check them out as they are also major croc enthusiasts.
Diversity
What makes Renekton such a great champion to learn and master is the diversity of builds that you can go depending on what your team needs, You can go tank and get onto their back line to stun and take down carries, or go full ad and dominate the sidelane with immense 1v1 pressure. In the current meta Renekton is a bit weak, however he will always be a champ that rewards you for mastering trades, mechanics, and macro play. Sunfire Renekton is the extreme tank build that still provides damage later on. When playing Sunfire Renekton it is important to consider Fury management as that is where most of you damage will come from in lane. Once you have Sunfire you can look for more damage/tank options like Titanic, Steraks, Black Cleaver, and more depending on the game. Pair one or more damage/HP item(s) with Sunfire and Titanic and you will feel the power of this tank build.
Laning
Renekton excels in laning after level 3, and can shut down many champs early to knock them out for the game for a long time. This is why I believe laning is probably the most important part of playing Renekton. In lane you can push the first wave and gather fury to look for an all in at level 2-3 especially if you have ignite. I recommend playing Renekton aggressively to learn the limits of the champion in lane(It's okay if you have a few bad games as long as you are learning). Renekton gains a massive spike at level 6 for 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 situations, try to stack some fury before looking to R depending on the situation. When diving in lane one of the best parts about Renekton is that he has tools in his kit to assist with the dive. You can use for E1 to dash in, W to stun, Q to damage/kill, and E2 to get out. Diving on Renekton still has to executed carefully, as cc like Urgot E or Morgana Q can entirely turn the state of the dive (Try to force out hard cc from your opponent before diving). Flash W is another deadly engage in lane with little to no counter play, especially if your opponent has flash on cooldown. Playing lane well on Renekton you can shut out your opponent for the first 10-20 minutes depending on how hard you win the early game around level 1-7. Renekton is great weakside because of the 1 v 1 and 1 v 2 kill potential that he has. When Renekton is able to excel in lane the idea is that your teams late game carries can get their items and start to carry the game later on when Renekton isn't as strong anymore. (Around 30+ minutes)
Trading
One advantage of a champion like Renekton is that he has very easy trading patterns to get the hang of.
1. PTA - E in, AA W, Q AA, E out, AA (if you can) - For this trading pattern PTA is by far the best choice to make, you dash in, proc PTA near instantly while your enemy is stunned, then dash back out denying your enemy the chance to trade back. Having attack speed allows better ease of weaving in autos which is why Stridebreaker is a great choice.
2. All In - E in, R AA W, AA Q, E towards enemy, AA, repeat with CDs.

Building: Starting Items
Renekton has no mana so corrupting can never be a viable option. The main factor on Renekton when looking between Dorans Shield and Blade is how you want to play the first few levels, and what kind of summoner spell setup you are going for. If you went Flash and Tp then Dorans Blade could be a better option, into a quick reset for a defense item or longsword to gain the advantage in lane. If you started something like ghost or ignite and want to create pressure in lane with your summoner spells, you can choose either option to sustain or kill. Dorans shield is excellent vs Teemo, Gnar, and other poke heavy or DOT champions. Starting Dorans Shield can never be a bad option on Renekton, the healing from Dorans Shield allows you to stay in lane for longer and take more damage. However, Dorans Blade is also a good choice because of the omnivamp and damage that it gives, stacking with Renekton's built in healing from his Q. When it comes down to it, Doranss Blade is great vs other melee champs that Renekton has an apparent advantage over and cam walk freely to the wave, ex. Irelia, you can auto the wave early and play with Fury to kill her.
Team Fights
Renekton can be extremely useful in teamfights because of the many approaches he can take. For instance, if you are playing against a fed Jinx you can dive onto her and cc her with your W which is a point and click. Before you die you can do major amounts of damage to the carries. Guardian Angel pairs very well with this kind of playstyle and Renekton in general, as it allows you to dive onto the backline, hit your full combo on the carries, then revive and combo again before dying.
