Introduction
Pros
+ High Burst Damage
+ Mana doesn't really run out that fast(multiple bursts)
+ AOE damage useful in team fights
+ Good at farming
+ Long range
+ Has a mini ward
+ Lots of fun
Cons
- Only uses ability power
- Cant fight Tanks or high Magic resist champions
- Fast champions (avoiders, gap closers) can easily dodge your ability's and counter you examples:Xin-Zhao, Fizz, Shaco etc.

Cons

I then go for a Kage's Lucky Pick because of the gold it generates as well as some AP and the fact it builds into items late game.
Then i go for Sorcerer's Shoes for Magic Pen always helps a middle laner against the opposing champion.
By now you should at least have gotten a teammates gank or bursted your opponent in mid lane so you should have a kill or assist by now as well as good amount of farm so you should work towards a Rabadon's Death Cap or a Zhonya's Hourglass(especially if you need some defense if you keep getting ganked)
After that you can choose depending on the situation(just keep building AP but think about what you need as well maybe some health Rylai's Crystal Scepter or some Magic Pen Void Staff by now if your'e fed you will eventually have really high AP as well as some other stats depends on what you get.
Tip: If you feel focused get an Angelic Blessing.
Flash is Really useful for getting away as well as securing kills
Ignite for When you don't think you will catch them and they have low health
Heal can save you if you're new to the game its really great to start with
Same with ghost if you don't have flash it can save your life activate it then sprint for your life
In Team fights you can try to AoE the enemy's when they group up and if there's a loner you can burst him and kill him usually

Rise of the thorns(Passive): Upon death, Zyra returns to her plant form. After 2 seconds, she can press any ability to fire a Vengeful Thorn towards her cursor, dealing 99 + (25 × level) true damage to each enemy it strikes.
Range: 1,500 (estimate)
Duration of plant form: 8 seconds
Deadly Bloom(Active): Thorns shoot from the ground, dealing magic damage to enemies within the area.
Range to Center of AoE: 825
Cost: 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 mana
