Hello, my name is Tapporauta and i've been a Sion 'main' for nearly 2 seasons now. I started playing him in early season 7 and since then hes been my favourite champion. Im currently Diamond 4 on EUNE with a 54% wr overall, 60% wr with Sion. Thought i'd make this guide just for fun and i hope someone actually learns something from it.

Before Roar of the Slayer was nerfed, Sion reigned toplane with his poke w/Arcane comet. The rune worked perfectly with his kit and i was quite fond of it too. But i always didnt run Arcane Comet, i was playing with Grasp of the Undying from time to time and it worked very well in melee matchups, where Arcane Comet didnt excel in. But now, since they nerfed the E dmg, Arcane Comet isnt that good. But, a new challenger approaches, Glacial Augment! Glacial Augment works very well with Sion, him being a melee champion and the slow is stronger on melee champions. Sion can also utilize this rune by buying Randuins Omen, making it so when you use Randuins active, it shoots additional freeze rays that linger for 5 second on the ground and enemies inside the area are slowed by 60%. I always go Inspiration + Resolve. From the inspiration tree, i go magical boots, since the extra movspeed is nice. Then i take Minion dematerializer, to use them on ranged+cannon creeps for the most efficient waveclearing later. Lastly from inspiration i either take Timewarp Tonic or Approach velocity, depending on the matchup, TWT if i need the extra sustain / AV if i need the extra movspeed to catch up to slow them again with Glacial Augment.

Sion scales very well into late game with the items he buys. He utilizes HP and HP-regen very well and resistances just help him further more to be one of the best frontliners there is. One of the core items, Banner of Command, is one of the best items to build on Sion at the moment. You get resistances, cooldown reduction, increased base health regen + Point Runner passive (builds up-to +20% movspeed near fallen turrets or turret, also including ZZrot!) and the best part, active: Promote. This active allows you to make an targeted minion immune to magic damage and greatly increases it's power, meaning that its a very good pushing tool. Sion is a good splitpusher when accompanied with BoC, he already has good waveclear and that allows you to push lanes efficiently. As for rest of the items, itemize according to the enemy teamcomp and see what your team has. Example: if you see your adc is doing well and you dont have a tanky support, build Knights Vow. This allows you to peel even better for your team, mostly the adc.

I used to max E on Sion , as did probably everyone else but now i think its better to max W first. It gives you that safety in lane because the shield is so big and its not on such a big cooldown. It also allows you to play into poke champions like Teemo or Rumble. But if youre in a matchup that doesnt let you farm that efficiently without maxing E, just max it. E max allows you to farm from a great distance, and you wont die so easily cause youre farming with a long range ability. Put a point in your ultimate whenever you can!
But if you are against a squishy laner, you can max Q first. They buffed the damage by alot, making it a good "poking" ability in lane.

Always take Tp and Flash. Dont bother taking ignite since you dont really have kill potential unless you go full ad. Tp is just way more efficient, it allows you to go back to lane fast, so you can go back to waveclearing. Its also good for crossmap plays, eg: Tp'ing botlane to 3v2 and get a double kill for your team.

Pros:
- Very teamfighting oriented toplaner
- Long range engage with ultimate
- Good waveclear
- Very, very, very tanky
- Alot of cc
- Actually does decent amount of damage
- Good gank setups

Cons:
- Easily kited
- Immobile
- If you miss a cc ability, you wont land the rest of your abilities
- Not good in straight out 1v1's
- No escape from a gank pre lvl 6 if you burn your flash

Drifting is an art form, perfected by Sion himself. To drift with sion, I recommend you to keep your mouse near Sion when you change directions, not far out from him.

Tldr; Play Sion, hes in a very good state right now, hes found a place for himself in the current meta and will continue to thrive. I recommend this champion, if you like to play a CC heavy juggernaut that can tank almost anything.
