Introduction

Hello, and thanks for checking out my build guide. My name is Nightblayed, and I often build champs with somewhat unorthodox builds and enjoy playing off-meta. When i do, I make sure that my builds are viable, and practice them extensively before even taking them into ranked games. I don't build these to troll, but rather to be a little original, have fun, and throw off the enemy team.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
+ Very quick for a support mage
    + Able to position well
    + Good stuns and slows
    + Excellent poke and harass
+ Amazing wave clear for late game and pushing waves

Cons:
    - Still a little squishy
    - Will most likely be focused
    - Not great escaping unless you have items off cooldown

Spells

I take Barrier and Heal for the utility and added tankiness. Heal will obvious help your bot lane partner and give you both a quick speed boost if you have to chase or get the hell out. Barrier will shield you from some nasty attacks will you get out, or allow you to surprise hold ground and finish off your laser.
Can really take any spells here, but i like being a lot tankier. I would not recommend taking ignite or exhaust because you should ideally never be that close to use them!

Runes

I go with move speed and utility here. Movespeed quints for the big boost, cooldown blues and mana regen yellows to keep the harass going, Magic pen reds obviously for the damage.

Masteries

Go with AP masteries and a bit of extra health. The utility tree won't be that beneficial and late game you will push lanes and farm just fine. Mid-Late game you will be a devastating monster!

Skill Sequence

Start with your Q for the harass and poke. Max your W for more poke, and to help weaken waves for your carry. Maxing this first will allow you to easily push the waves back if they get to close to your tower, or if your carry has to back. E will be great for stun and setups but no need to max it early. Of course, level your ult whenever you can, because... well, because it is awesome.

Items

For items, you want speed and utility.
Build up Talisman first and foremost cause it will give you a huge base speed increase, extra gold, and an active to get you and your carry in position when chasing or help get you the hell out in a hurry.

Next you can get boots to help even more with positioning and give you some resistance in case you get caught out of place. You'll be able to roam and help all lanes without any problems.

Then you can go for Twin shadows for even more speed and to tag targets with the crippling slow and reveal them hiding around you.

Rylais scepter, is great on Vel cause it adds a bunch to damage, makes you a tanky beast, and slows like crazy on your abilities. Even though all your aoe abilities cut the slow down, your true damage of 3rd stack passive applies the full slow! This means that when your lock that enemy in your laser they wont be able to get out, and that is key.

Liandry's then synergizes with your abilities, your laser, and the slow from Rylais.

You can finish off the last item however you want, if the game still looks like it will be long, I usually opt for RoA for huge amounts more Ap and health.
