You sure about Nashors tooth? If you replace Lich Bane with it then you get 20% cdr ( and since you will most likely have blue since ap kog needs to spam his ult its 40% cdr) so you can have w up almost permenantly (around 2.2 seconds before it is back up after the steriod ends with blue buff), somewhere around 70 magic damage on hit, 11% max hp magic damage on hit, 710 range, about 1.5 attack speed, and something to do if you happen to have gotten max stacks on your ultimate and cant spam much longer. Maybe situational if there is always someone who can somehow reach you like Akali. Just my thoughts on the matter.
Im playing AP Kog for a while now and you really dont want to sell lichbane at all.
You want to have a huge burst with AP Kog, which you totaly dont have with tooth.
However, I agree on the point that tooth synergizes with AP kog overall and it would even increase your Dmg with Autohits in combination with Lichbane.
So if you want to get the tooth its fine but absolutely NOT INSTEAD of lichbane, it might be a good 6. item. Im too lazy to do the math now but it could be even better then deathfire in the end. (the longer i think the more i doubt that its better then deathfire if you open your combo with Df due to the dmg buff of it)
And one thing id like to "criticize" at this guid, in the buying section at
Buy this during lane phase
you advice to buy all those 3 items before to go for Rod or Seraphs and here i have to disagree.
I started to play AP kog with your guide and as long as i was new and my opponents werent too good i did well with this buyorder.
After getting better and joining gold devision I get totaly destroyed by every mid opponent if I dont go after the boots for the Rod or Seraphs(incase I started with faerie).
You just cant trade back dmg to the opponent if you dont, and since you dont have any defense spells you sometimes have to trade. If you dont spam your E and just use W for harrasing and lasthiting you´re fine with your manapool.
To be able to skip the early Manaitems I put 9 points into the utility tree since I strongly advice to get the 3 mp5, wich is the fearie for free, and runic affinity because blue is so important to AP Kog, besides the first blue buff you should try to get every blue from your jungler.
ooohkay these are my thoughts so far :) and now as Im realizing how much I have to say about AP kog Im thinking about making a Guide for it ;>
Cheers and thanks for your guide :)
What do you think about on-hit items with kog'maw? I tried Nashor's Tooth with him and it works well. Iceborn is also an interesting idea with his q.
If you prefer on-hit Kog'Maw, you might aswell just build him regular AD. Since if you build AP on-hit items (Nashor's tooth), not only it will hurt either your survivability or burst potential, but you will fall off late game aswell compared to pure AP Carries (Pure burst) or AD Carries (Pure DPS). On-hit build is between the two so of course both your burst and dps will be weak late.
I personally do not think that Roa is good on Kog, if he gets focused, hes obviously gonna die late game no doubt about it. If you want HP get rylais, if you want sustain, get a flask. The synergy between Roa and AAA is very minuscule compared to the utility that rylais brings. if you're against an harass champion like lux, then maybe it can be viable, but only under those circumstances or else its a waste of money and a slot.
Other than that, good solid guide. keep up the good work!
True that. I was thinking about it for a while. The slow from Rylai is tempting and it doesn't hurt survivability when I switch it with RoA..I don't know, I need to test this. Havan't played much AP KOg lately because of the current mid lane meta, but I'll try to figure it out.
Other than that, good solid guide. keep up the good work!
hmm whats up with the dates on the match history you posted? smells like photoshop xD
Not everyone is from NA you know..
If you were a bit smar-...cultivated, you'd know that europeans's date format is DD/MM/YYYY whereas US residents use the MM/DD/YYYY.
Go to schoo-...I mean sorry if I didn't mention that I play in EUW, although I'm sure I talked about it somewhere, that is, if you took time reading through the guide.
No one likes accusations or braindead comments bro, I tried being as friendly as I could, sorry if it came off rude.
What are your thoughts about rushing Chalice of Harmony as a first item and building it into Athene's later on? It offers more spammability along with great mana regen. Also, what about Malady and Nashor's Tooth ? These items goes well with Kog's W and Malady offers a bit of AD directly from your AP. I think it's worth mentionning them since you don't have to fully rely on your skills to deal good amount of damage, especially against tanky characters.
