The ALP Guide to Akshan Jungle

By AverageLilliaPlayer
About Me
Hello, my name is Average Lillia Player (or ALP for short) though ingame I go by Yoon. As the name suggests, I main Lillia and prefer to avoiding laning as a whole, often queuing for Jungle or Support (but mostly Jungle). Almost all of my time in the game is spent making extremely strange picks in the Jungle work out, anything from meta to borderline throwing, I'm determined to make it work.
Champion Introduction
Abilities

Akshan, the Rogue Sentinel
Marksman, Assassin, Ranged, Mid Laner, Mana, Physical
Clearing: Very Unhealthy First Clear [3:47]
Ganking: Excellent, Stealthy & Mobile
Speciality: Roaming and Bullying
Why Jungle Akshan? Akshan is a ganking specialist. His clear is lacking, likely due to his ganking being so good, riot doesn't want to give him anything else that makes him viable in the jungle. His invisibility and high damage makes him a dangerous jungler that can sneak around wards and appear behind enemies similarly to an Evelynn. Except this jungler has a grappling hook and a free revive on teammates!
Pros and Cons

➺ Stealthy
➺ Long Range
➺ Snowballer
➺ Great Ganks

➺ Difficult to Play
Builds

CRITICAL STRIKE
Crit and Lethality Akshan both have their places in the jungle, but I find myself building crit more often. Build it most often against tankier teams.

LETHALITY
Like mentioned before, Akshan strives well with both build options. He only scales off of AD. Build Lethality when versus a squishier team.

ON-HIT
Akshan doesn't build on-hit often, but when he does it is typically best against teams that build one type of tank item due to the mixed magic and physical damage on-hit provides.
Skill Order

W

3 / 14 / 15 / 17 / 18
E

2 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 13
R

> > >
Akshan starts Q as it gives him stacks on his three hit combo, has the lowest cooldown of his abilities, and is also his main reliable damaging ability.
For level 2 we go into E for the damage and mobility it provides, allowing for easier access kiting.
Then we go W and look for a good gank with the invisibility.
Ability Usage in Jungle
PASSIVE ABILITY
Dirty Fighting
➺ Whenever Akshan auto attacks, he fires an additional shot that deals extra physical damage. This scales with Attack Damage. If this shot is cancelled, he instead gains bonus decaying movement speed.

➺ Akshan also applies a stack of Dirty Fighting to enemies with his basic attacks. This is a three hit passive where the third hit of an enemy deals extra magic damage and gives Akshan a shield.

➺ This scales with both Attack Damage and Ability Power, with AP scaling more.
Q
Avengerang
➺ Akshan throws a boomerang that deals physical damage and reveals enemies hit. If it hits an enemy it extends the range of the throw. It also applies Dirty Fighting to enemies it hits.

➺ Once the boomerang has gone its original range without hitting anything, it returns and applies the same effects and damage. Enemies can only be hit once per pass and the damage is reduced on non-champions.

➺ This scales off of Attack Damage.
W
Going Rogue
➺ PASSIVE: Akshan marks enemy champions that kill allied champions as Scoundrels for 60 seconds. If Akshan scores a takedown while alive and within 3 seconds of damaging them, he receives extra gold and revives the teammates killed by the enemy.

➺ ACTIVE: Akshan goes invisible for 2 seconds. Alternatively, if he stands near a wall or in a bush, he can be invisible indefinitely until he attacks or uses an ability. During this time. he can see trails leading toward Scoundrels if they are nearby.
E
Heroic Swing
➺ Akshan fires a grappling hook and can swing from the location it lands on. While swinging, he fires at the nearest visible enemy, dealing physical damage.

➺ This scales off of Attack Damage and Attack Speed.
R
Comeuppance
➺ Akshan begins charging up empowered shots on an enemy champion, revealing them and himself. After a duration or manually, he fires these bullets and deals physical damage to the enemy hit.

➺ This can be blocked by enemy champions, minions, monsters, or towers. Each bullet's damage applies lifesteal and executes minions.

➺ This scales off of Attack Damage.
Objectives
DRAGON
Akshan can solo dragons in the mid-late game, and even some of the weaker ones in the earlier game, but keep an eye out for your teammates and enemies alike. Don't be afraid to give up objectives and turn back around while invisible to try and steal it. You can bait out the enemy to pull out the dragon by warding near the redside wall.

Akshan benefits the most from Hextech Soul. The zap of lightning and the slow from it provides him more than enough time to hunt down scoundrels and score kills while getting out of the range of enemies trying to stop him.

VOIDGRUBS
Akshan can solo Voidgrubs, but on some occasions he may need the honeydew plant in river to do it successfully and his health will get very low. It is possible, but risky and usually not worth it. Prioritize dragon.

RIFT HERALD
Herald can be solo'd by Akshan with very little effort, and he can even use his grapple to hit the eye without having to walk behind it.

VORACIOUS ATAKAHN
Voracious Atakahn will spawn in lower-action games with fewer kills/damage, taking root in whichever side of the map has the most drama within it. It cannot be solo'd by Akshan and requires a majority of the team to be with him, UNLESS he is very far ahead, then he can do this objective with one to two other teammates, particularly high-damaging and supportive ones. If there looks to be a point in time where the enemy is going to jump into the fight with you, Akshan should abandon the fight and regroup with his team to launch another attack on the enemy - provided Atakahn isn't already almost dead and has enough health to do this. If not, try to commit to the Smite battle. Upon defeating him, Voracious Atakahn grants a free, one-time use of False Life but instead of reviving right in the middle of the fight, you blink back to your fountain.

RUINOUS ATAKHAN
This is usually the most likely Atakahn, but not always. Akshan jungle is very hit or miss, but a majority of the time this will be the one due to other factors in a game. This Atakahn, if ahead, is easier to dodge the damage of and can be killed much more safely if Akshan is ahead. Upon slaying Ruinous Atakhan, you are granted Crown of Carnage which permanently boosts rewards from epic monsters slain aswell as 6 stacks of Bloody Petals.

BARON NASHOR
Akshan cannot solo Baron at any point in the game and it should not be attempted to take it, due to his low damage to objectives, without a majority of the enemy team dead. Prioritize Baron over Elder Drake.

ELDER DRAKE
Akshan can, very slowly, usually solo Elder if it is required while his team defends the river from the enemy. On most occasions, it is better to do it with at least one other person.
Clearing

RED SIDE
OR

BLUE SIDE
Red side should be the second set of camps Akshan goes to in his first clear. He struggles with the AOE camps even with his Q dealing damage to multiple enemies. It is much better to fight single target camps with his auto attacks and passive. After blue side, the clear on red would start with Raptors into Red Brambleback. Then he can either do Scuttle or complete his clear slower than the enemy jungler by going to Krugs. Akshan starts blue side not for the mana regeneration, but for the single target camps. His passive favors one on one fights and he has a much healthier clear starting from this side. His clear going Blue Sentinel into Gromp then Wolves before crossing into redside.
Core Items
CRIT
LETHALITY
ON-HIT
Feats of Strength
BERSERKER'S GREAVES
These is the boots you'll be taking a majority of the time for the Attack Speed it provides. For such a cheap item, the difference it makes it almost night and day. Cheap Attack Speed is hard to come by after all, so why not take advantage of it when it does exist?

FEATS OF STRENGTH
Feats of Strength is gained by completing two of three objectives before the enemy team. These objectives include 3 epic monsters slain, first to three kills, and first tower. For Akshan the most optimal of the three is first to three kills and first tower. Akshan benefits from kills early on and has a muchhh better time doing those than anything else. Objectives are situational depending on the enemy jungle and your own lead.

GUNMETAL GREAVES
Upgrading GG grants you Gunmetal Greave's, providing a buff to Movement Speed and Attack Speed. You are also granted a passive! This gives you another Movement Speed buff on-hit with basic attacks against champions. In my opinion, this is the most optimal Feat of Strength due to the insanely large amount of Attack Speed from such a cheap item. Upgrade these ASAP!!!!
Summary

IN CONCLUSION
-
EARLY GAME: Akshan isn't the fastest clearer, but he's far from the worst. It isn't healthy, but his level three ganks make up for it. The moment you have a level three you should be roaming to mid lane (or whatever lane looks gankable) and snatching a kill, assist, or helping to scare off the enemy laner.
MID GAME: Hopefully by now you aren't a complete waste of space and can clear a bit more efficiently. Akshan should be able to gank on the regular similar to an Evelynn and his clear speed with objectives is... mediocre. Killing is his farming, so keep an eye on the map.
LATE GAME: At this point in the game he is a true assassin, able to pick out a squishy in team fights and kill them alone in just a few moments, so long as there is little interruption. His ability to secure kills that teammates otherwise couldn't makes him a very competent and very snowbally jungler.
