oneshots you level 2, usually played with an aggresive support, making it harder to snowball
Aphelios
Very weak early, easy to abuse. Just don't fight if he has cresendum or severum with gravitum
Ashe
Most people say she is the hardest counter to kalista but you can usually deal with her pretty easily with an aggresive support because of her lack of mobility. Without an aggresive support just look to farm and wait for ganks because she is immobile
Caitlyn
Another champion people consider hard for kalista but most of her damage is skillshots, just dont get hit by her q or traps and be aggresive.
Ezreal
Yeah he is just too safe, you can't build a lead from just farming because he will outscale you.
Jhin
The best matchup for kalista, very weak early and midgame. A kalista can easily kill a jhin even if he is 1000 gold up. Just dodge his w and dont get hit by max damage q
Jinx
I don't understand how Jinx deals as much damage as she does. For some reason she just wins every trade even early game because of her minigun attack speed
Draven
Just leave the game if he gets a kill. It's doomed. Nothing you can do but play safe and hope he turret dives with your jungler nearby.
Kai'Sa
very meta pick and a good matchup for kalista. Just make sure you don't take trades where kai'sa can activate her passive. So only very short trades or very long trades where your e basically oneshots her
Kog'Maw
This champ sucks lmao. No one plays him either. If you face him just steam roll him early game and torture him.
Lucian
He can be difficult to face because he tends to win trades. Look to dodge his q using HOB attack speed and you will win trades.
Miss Fortune
Pretty easy to face except for the fact that her E slows for a lot. If her e was different MF would be as easy as jhin. Just make sure you don't fight her when her e is up
Samira
This is the one champ I recommend you max e instead of q, if she w's your q then you lose on a lot of damage. look to play passive since she wins fights early especially with an aggressive support
Senna
With the rageblade nerf she is pretty easy to face. Just make sure you don't reach late game and it will be fine. Be aggressive and the lane is a breeze.
Sivir
She can spellshield your ult and e, lethality sivir can be a threat but if its crit, you should win by playing aggressive.
Twitch
Twitch has very strong slows and his invis makes it hard to kill him. He always outscales and can easily delete you at the start of fights. Ap twitch is very hard to beat, Ad is a bit easier.
Varus
very skillshot reliant champion. Just be aggressive early game since lethality varus is pretty weak until he gets 2 items
Vayne
She beats you after level 6 even if you are up 1000 gold. Just don't fight her after level 6 unless you have backup
Xayah
It's VERY easy to just dance around her and make it impossible to land more than 1 or 2 feathers using E.
Alistar
great with her ultimate
Bard
works well when you ult combined with his ult, but he can't help you snowball if he is roaming all the time.
Blitzcrank
very strong early. easy to snowball with
Brand
no synergy with kalista except that your ult can let him get his CD back for another combo
Braum
HOB instantly activates stun
Janna
the AD she gives is nice but the rest of her kit is kind of bad for kalista
Karma
her w can be combined with your ult to guarantee roots. her shield MS and her q slows are pretty nice. Karma is kind of like a better version of Janna imo
Leona
no comment. We all know
Morgana
better than most people might think, you can ult her in for her ult or you can ult as she is ulting to keep her safe incase she doesn't have zhonyas
Nami
she kind of sucks with kalista. pick poke champs with nami instead
Nautilus
just a god level support
Pantheon
good early game. might KS your kills because its a pantheon player.
Pyke
very good at getting you a lead. your ult gives him a get out of jail free card
Rakan
although rakan is amazing with kalista. he isn't in the best spot this season.
Rell
absolutely insane support just nerf Rell
Senna
nothing to get you a lead. just play for late by farming
Seraphine
she is very strong in the back and your ult just provides some safety for her
Sona
wait people play sona?
Soraka
her heals can give you a better laning phase but doesn't help you get a lead.
Swain
insane early game. your ult works will with his passive and ult.
Tahm Kench
if tahm kench was more played I would rank this higher but most people can't play him right. I'm not sure if you can ult tahm if he eats an enemy champion since he is grounded but I'm pretty sure you can.
Taric
very underrated support. Very weak for a tank but he is like a tank enchanter hybrid. His ult is pretty nuts
Thresh
the most common duo for kalista.
Yuumi
if there was a synergy strength lower than none, thats where she would go
Zilean
his slow can be pretty good along with his ult for safety

Most people will question the lack of mythic item first, and I know I'm somewhat speaking out of my *** just because I haven't reached diamond this season yet. But BORK has some absolutely insane damage potential. I have seen BORK without Runaan's Hurricane do more damage than kraken slayer. There are obviously some downsides. You won't be able to rush a noonquiver, making CSing more difficult. Especially while maxing q since e damage will be lower making it harder to last hit using it. But that's why this guide is a harder but more rewarding way to kalista. You are sacrificing about the first 10 minutes for a stronger mid-late game.
Why Q max first?
Q has some insane base damage but a very weak level 1 ability. It has a base damage of 20 at level 1 with 100% ad scaling but goes all the way upto 280 at max rank. Which is absurd. If you have trust in hitting skillshots, Q max will be much more rewarding. Q maxing also has the benefit of being able to oneshot ranged minions at rank 4 with pickaxe and vamp scepter along with your starting item (this can change a bit depending on runes, game time etc). So from level 7 clearing minion waves become a lot easier and poking is more unexpected since you can poke through ranged minions. E max second is also more beneficial because the base damage doesn't go up much but the AD scaling increases. Rushing BORK means you won't have much AD since it only gives 40 unlike shieldbow which gives 55 + 5 per mythic. And her w just sucks. It only has 1 purpose and that is to reveal control wards. It is easy to walk around and the passive can mess with your Csing if your support likes to AA the minions.
POM and Blooline?
Yes presence of mind. Q maxing is expensive, 70 mana at max rank and your e won't refund much mana since it will be low rank. Bloodline is also good here since you are getting alacrity's attack speed in the form of BORK (which you wouldn't get with most kalista builds). It's also very important if you plan on building a mythic other than SB since the other 2 mythics don't give lifesteal. Also you can change Taste of blood with Sudden impact, Eyeball collection with zombie ward, ravenous hunter with ultimate hunter and/or POM with overheal/cutdown if you want to.
Why mythics expect SB?
Sheildbow is the best mythic to RUSH because it gives lifesteal while the other mythics don't. you'll notice that most champions that go shieldbow are snowballing champions because the lifesteal allows them to be aggresive (Samira, Irelia, Draven, Kalista etc). Lifesteal is just too important for kalista making it harder to get a different mythic first. But BORK is a great substitute because it gives good damage while giving lifesteal. The game also goes long enough for you to decide who is fed and what mythic works best here. A fed malphite needs galeforce while a fed zed needs SB and other situations too
Playstyle?
Kalista was designed as a lane bully made to snowball and dominate midgame teamfights. Q maxing just helps you be even more of a lane bully. Always reset your E especially in the early game since it has a long CD (unless you have a lot of stacks on a champioin but no way to reset it). Q maxing also gives you more damage if you mess up a reset. Usually without E your damage goes down about 20-30% without hurricane and 50-60% with hurricane. But with Q max you can have very strong single target damage even if you mess up E. Just remember that this way of playing kalista is a lot more difficult than the usual SB E max but it can be more consistant if you can pull it off.
Hidden Tricks
1. Ult range = E range
2. E range is longer than the indicator. As long as 1 target is in the range, other targets slightly outside the range can be hit
3. You're attacks will go through even if you get CC'd in the middle
4. A Double rend can be used to reset from an enemy who would have died to the AA damage before E. Double rend is when you cast E in the middle of your attack animation. Have 1 stack on an enemy in range of e then AA a target and e right after the windup finishes. If done correctly will reset your E even though your attack killed the enemy and not rend
5. The hop range on Q is slightly longer than your attack hop range.
6. You can start recall and immediately E to rend even though you are in recall animation (great way to BM)
7. If you start attack animation then q right after the windup finishes you will create a visual bug. You can extend it by moving and stopping with S at the correct speed. (My favorite way to BM)(this is easier to do in lower attack speeds but looks better with higher attack speeds)
