Introduction

Hello World, my name is PatrickBrown. I've been playing multiple champions across multiple seasons but found myself falling back to Singed every time. Currently climbing up the ladder, but I've peaked masters for the last 2 seasons playing a variety of champs.

Singed has been my champ ever since I started playing back in Season 1 during the ELO system. This is a general guide for how I play Singed and how I find him strong in almost every meta.

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Amazing teamplay
+ AoE slow (with Rylai's)
+ Overall tankiness
+ Engage potential
+ Initial D God

Singed is a fun pick in solo queue. He may not be the typical tank top or ad bruiser that you'd imagine yet he does have his strengths. His dueling potential is huge due to Insanity Potion, giving a huge amount of free stats. Most important when considering Singed, is his team-fight potential. Singed becomes lightning fast in teamfights running at 600+ movement speed, with an insane amount of free stats. Kind of scary for any ad carry in a teamfight.
Cons

- Poor late-game
- Pre-6 really squishy
- Ultimate reliant
- Depends on summoners in teamfights
- Susceptible to hard CC in teamfights
- Lots of hard lane matchups

With every champion comes strengths and their own weaknesses. Compared to other tops, Singed is reliant on match-up knowledge. Singed cannot farm safely as other champions and has to physically go in to melee auto or run past the minion wave to farm, which puts many champions in dangerous position (nobody wants to be behind the enemy minion line). It takes a lot to consider when playing Singed properly and learning that would be the hardest part.

Runes

Aftershock
  • Aftershock: The rune gives you so many free tank stats as soon as you use your fling. Its also on a notably low cooldown. This is the best resolve keystone you can get.

Bone Plating
  • Bone Plating: Bone plating is crazy as it reduces a lot of damage during the laning phase while your trying to farm a wave. Its also good for Singed's play style as he is going to be taking multiple hits when he runs forward.

Conditioning

Unflinching
  • Unflinching: In almost every team fight, you will be using Ghost to run around like the insane green man you are. This will allow you to keep that pace up while preventing you from being stopped for too long.

Ultimate Hat
  • The Ultimate Hat: Singed seems to rely on his Ultimate being up to play aggressively, this helps him continue to run around while also being an indestructible green man.

Celerity
  • Celerity: Celerity gives extra movement speed, Singed is a one dimensional champ that thrives off movement speed. This is definitely the best sorcery rune for him.

Summoners

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
GHOST: Zoom zoom baby, just make sure to use this preemptively, there is a buildup to the speed.
FLASH: Typically only grab flash instead of ghost if they have a lot of cc that keeps you in place, or Jarvan IV
TELEPORT: The go-to top laner summoner, too powerful to not use. Can be used to gank bot lanes or threaten teleports when you split push.

Champion Abilities

Noxious Slipstream (Passive)

EFFECT RADIUS: 225
ON-TARGET COOLDOWN: 10
INNATE: Moving near a champion grants Singed 20% bonus Movement speed icon movement speed for 2 seconds. The effects of Noxious Slipstream can stack up to 25 times.

During a teamfight this can proc multiple times and have you moving at 500+ movement speed. Imagine a tank running at you that fast D:

Poison Trail (Q)

COST: 13 mana per second
COOLDOWN: 1
TOGGLE: Singed leaves a Poison icon poison cloud behind him for 3.25 seconds.

Enemies standing in the cloud's trail are Poison icon poisoned for 2 seconds, taking magic damage every 0.25 seconds for the duration, continually refreshing while remaining in the affected area.

This is what makes you Singed, the poison damage-over-time spell that kills everyone who chases you, always max first.

Mega Adhesive (W)

RANGE: 1000
COST: 60/70/80/90/100 mana
COOLDOWN: 17/16/15/14/13
ACTIVE: Singed covers the target area with a potent adhesive for 3 seconds, Slow icon slowing by 40% and Grounded icon grounding all enemies within.

Whats unique about this is the grounded effect, it can prevent summoners and also people from using Teleport in front of you!

Fling (E)

RANGE: 125
COST: 80 / 95 / 110 / 125 / 140 mana
COOLDOWN: 10
ACTIVE: Singed Airborne icon flings the target enemy over his shoulder 550 units, dealing magic damage, capped against minions and monsters.

Targets flung into Mega Adhesive Mega Adhesive's area of effect are temporarily Root icon rooted.

This spell ruins enemy positioning, make sure to remember the Fling-> Mega Adhesive combo for the root!

Insanity Potion (R)

COST: 100
COOLDOWN: 120/110/100
ACTIVE: Singed drinks a potent chemical brew, gaining bonus ability power, bonus armor, bonus magic resistance, bonus Movement speed icon movement speed, bonus health regeneration, and bonus mana regeneration, all for the next 25 seconds.

UNLIMITED POWER. 35/60/85 to all stats for every level of the ultimate. This is incredible and most people forget how strong it is when you pop it. Once you use this you can play like incredibly insane green person that you are.

Items

Below you fill find various items that Singed commonly buys. If an item is not listed on here, it is either too situational or simply not good. For information on what items should be brought together aka 'Builds', look at the top of the guide or at the section underneath this one. The combination if items you build is very important: some items are better brought early, some better late, some have good synergy whilst other's don't.

Starting Items

The Dark Seal
With the change of singed's passive, you might think Doran's Ring would be a more efficient buy instead of dark seal, but dark seal stacking still gives the advantage of increased potion healing, and overall gold efficiency.

Drinking problems
Buying a refillable just goes hand in hand with dark seal, they synergize completely.

Further drinking problems
Get this as soon as possible for the extra sustain and increased damage.

Boots

-OR-

Ninja Tabi > ARMOR
Right now Ninja Tabi are one of the most purchased items in League of Legends, and it has reason to back that up, its incredibly strong and reduces a lot of incoming damage from ad champions. You will usually want this unless there is a lot of magic damage and cc on the other team.

Mercury's Treads > TENACITY
There are games when you are being caught out by CC or if you're getting destroyed by ability power damage. Grab these boots instead of Ninja Tabi for the tenacity and magic resist.

Core Items

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
The current slow effect of Rylai's is a 20% slow when damaged by a spell. Singed utilizes this effect with his damage over time poison. Rylai's Crystal Scepter also gives 300 HP and 85 AP, which are 2 stats that Singed desperately needs.

Dead Man's Plate
Dead Man's plate is an amazing item on Singed, you would usually get this 3rd right after boots. The item provides movement speed, armor and hp while also giving you another slow to further boost your sticking power.

Spirit Visage
This item provides a lot of stats, as well as making your ultimate+corrupting pot regeneration a lot more noticeable. I would get this over Abyssal Mask in almost every situation due to the nerf in it's active range.

Situational Items

Liandry's Torment
With the change of Liandry's to % max health and the synergy with Rylai's Crystal Scepter this is an amazing item to have, if you can opt out of a resistance item grab this, if not you can always grab this later as it will still be useful.

Thornmail
Are there a lot of auto attackers or do you need the grievous wounds? (Looking at you Fiora), then this might be the item for you.

Randuin's Omen
This is a good item to get if you're going up against a lot of crit, opt out of Dead Man's Plate and grab this instead if you are against two crit users on the enemy team.

Zz'Rot Portal
I like grabbing this item whenever I think I need to group with the team but still need to clear waves or apply pressure. The movement speed is a nice bonus to help get engages off.

Righteous Glory
Great item to make picks with, and the stats are decent for Singed.

Banshee's Veil
Are you having trouble getting a fling off due to point and click cc? or are you needing extra magic resist and damage? Well perfect, here is the item for that.

Shurelya's Reveire
This is basically righteous glory but for your team! It has a lower cooldown than Turbo Chemtank and also lower speed but still enough to make an impact. The HP and AP works well with Singed so in all its a great item to pick up.

Early Game

Probably the most important part of the game is the early game, the early game dictates the flow and control of the map or lane. The early game would be roughly most of the laning phase, there may be a few fights or ganks, but usually never a team fight bigger than a 3v3. Unfortunately, Singed has a sub-par early game. Singed has a rough laning experience for most match ups, your goal in most lanes is to farm and make it to the mid game.

Aim to get Corrupting Potion as fast as possible, even if it means recalling at level 3 and using Teleport back to lane. Try to take efficient trades, and don't be scared to Fling them behind you into your wave and run past them while having a corruption potion tick. Your regeneration is a lot higher than you think when using a potion with a dark seal. Try to not die in lane and always be wary of the jungler's gank path. Use wards correctly and buy as many as necessary.

Also against many tops, Singed has an incredible amount of damage with auto attacks and his poison ticking. Typically at level 3 I would get a second point of Q just for a faster clear on the minion wave and more damage per second. I would only get Mega Adhesive for a gank that my jungler might pull off.

Once you get to level 6 you should be safe almost all of the time even when being ganked. Try to farm until the mid game, and then you can start to be aggressive when you have your levels and items.

Mid Game

The mid game is typically when you're out of lane and people are looking to roam more and try to find picks or fight over objectives such as dragon or herald. Thankfully, Singed shines in the mid game due to his map pressure, Mega Adhesive and Insanity Potion.

Map pressure is Singed's strength. Singed is one of the bigger split pushers as he is mobile and tanky enough to get away from most ganks, while also being able to threaten a teleport to any team fight. If a Singed is left alone in a 1v1 with a squishy target, he can easily be able to dive with his Insanity Potion and his damage over time. If he is left alone the tower will fall due to his amazing waveclear as it only takes Singed a few seconds with his Poison Trail to crash a wave.

If you would rather focus on team fighting its as easy as popping Ghost and throwing down a Mega Adhesive to ground the enemy. Then follow up with a Fling into the rest of your team and they should be able to focus down whoever you fling. Even if that person is a tank. You should be able to further follow up with the Poison Trail and Rylai's Crystal Scepter slow. If a teamfight were to break out, you're able to tank most of the damage due to the free stats you're given and also zone with a poison trail that slows the rest of the enemy team.

Lets say during the teamfight you're taking a bit too much damage. Well thankfully with Singed's new passive Noxious Slipstream you can just zoom out of there with the multiple stacks that you were able to gain by running into the fight. If you were to be winning the fight you can go back in and throw in more damage and possibly another fling. If you weren't winning that fight, you can now disengage and run down to a lane, to clear the minion wave and apply map pressure. This will rinse and repeat, and eventually with enough picks and objectives you should be able to gain a lead that helps put you in a position to win the game.

Late Game

Late game is similar to the mid game but a larger focus on team fights. Playing the team fight correct can make or break the game. If you can successfully pull off a Fling on a squishy target, you might win the teamfight off that one move alone. In most cases, that will be hard to do. You may want to have a flowchart in your head before the team fight begins, a flowchart that will dictate what you would want to do during the fight.

If your team can pump out more damage on the frontline, then there team can then you should work from front to back killing the front to the back. If you think that the other team can do that better, then you might need to zone with a Mega Adhesive on the backline and hope that they cannot get any notable damage off at the start of the team fight. You can also try to get their main damage threat into a bad position with a Fling. There are many ways you can play a team fight and all of that will be on how you gauge the 5v5.

Ideally you will be wanting to fight with Insanity Potion. If you try to fight without it, you will be shredded. At level 3 Ultimate, you are missing out on 80 armor and magic resist. That is a huge amount of stats that make you much tankier.

Try to grab Baron when you can if you win a teamfight or force a tower dive to get an inhibitor. Singed is very capable of tower diving with his innate tankiness and ability to fling the enemy champion back to the team.

So in general, the late game is similar to the mid game but you will need to consider more of how you can do as a team rather than just yourself. Try to gauge how much damage your taking in and get away with your life in every fight.

Summary

Singed has a pretty weak early game pre-6 but his mid game and team fighting are pretty strong. If you're able to get your team snowballing with the mid game, then the late game shouldn't be much of a problem. Just make sure to remember to focus on how your team is doing before every fight. Try to play the team fights well with Mega Adhesive being your main utility. Singed is a fun champ that can be very strong if used correctly even in his hardest matchups.
