My perma ban, if you don't ban him, it's possible to fight him, I just have PTSD with him, if he E's you, he's gonna Q, so you W into him, drop your combo, and then walk away with E, and repeat, eventually you'll have him low enough to kill him, after two kills and item advantage you should be able to kill him by spacing.
Ult is awful as you always do minimal damage.
Pantheon
His early is too strong, most go with ignite, don't try to fight him in the first 3 levels, afterwards you should outheal his damage.
Good ult for roaming.
Akshan
Typical range champion, it's nerfed also, put three points in Q and then just jump him, he won't deal enough damage as you'll outheal him, his ult is meh, go second wind and if needed, dorans shield.
Ult is good only for execute.
Aatrox
Dodge his Q sweet spots, oblivion orb is good into him, short trades dodging his Qs, and then walk away, it's even because the champ is strong and heals a lot as Sylas.
Ult is pretty decent, not the best, not the worst, increased healing is always good.
Akali
At level 1, try and jump her with E and E2, drop your combo fast and leave before she hits you with passive, you outheal her, never fight on her shroud.
Amazing ult for chasing.
Camille
If the champ snowballs, it does so hard, but it shouldn't be much of a problem except if she has ignite, never waste your E until she E's to you, dodge it with your E and drop your combo, short trades if she has ignite.
NEVER STICK CLOSE TO THE WALLS
Decent R to try and trap the ADC-
Cho'Gath
Go liandrys and conq, easy matchup, you outscale him with his R, and outheal him, dodge his Q and you're done.
Pretty good R
Dr. Mundo
Same as Chogath, albeit a bit easier, he doesn't have any threat aside if you don't have enough AH to heal, decent ult.
Fiora
True damage, strong level 1, a good fiora will try to take you away from the wave, just let her and wait to level 3, try to bait her W jumping to her with E1, throw Q, and that'll usually be enough to bait it, you're strong in levels 4-5, be careful, she can parry your W.
Her ult is pretty meh, you proccing the vitals of her R won't trigger any true damage.
Gangplank
Easy matchup, it's only hard if it scales hard, you have huge advantage in the game as you have a lot of AA speed because of your passive, jump towards the barrels with E and destroy them, you can do so consistently as he'll try and put barrels through the fight.
A good ult with good damage.
Aurora
Not a lot of experience in this matchup, but she doesn't deal a lot of damage, so you outheal her, because she's ranged, 3 points in Q works well too in here.
Her ult is really good.
Garen
Garen matchup depends heavily on how you play, usually, what you want to do is W when he Qs you, and when he starts to spin, E away, as soon as his E is about to finish, you E2 him, and drop your combo, if he has ignite be careful.
Really good ult for execution.
Gnar
Easy matchup, you deal a lot of damage in his mini form, his mega gnar form is a bit tankier, but his movements are much more telegraphed, so you can dodge the majority with E, jump at him with E, and try to wait to see if he Es away, that's when you E2 at him, if not, just drop your full combo.
One of the reasons this matchup is good is because his ult is one of the best on Sylas, it scales off AP if it hits a wall, and has really low cooldown, so it's pretty much always available.
Gragas
Pretty uninteractive lane, if you engage him, he'll make you disengage pretty easily, to try and fix this you can match his E with your E2, that will make it so that you stick to him, he has good sustain but you have better damage.
His ult is good for damage and for displacing.
Gwen
Champ has true damage, that makes it a threat already, thankfully, has a weak early, through levels 3-5 you should outheal and outdamage her, save your E to when she Es at you, drop your combo and disengage, if she has ignite it's major threat.
Decent ult, works to get stacks and to chase.
Illaoi
Major mainly because this champ can kill you without interacting with you, if you dodge her E you can engage her, if she hits you, try to get hit in a place without many tentacles.
Conq build works good.
Her ult is bad, don't take it unless you have no chice.
Irelia
Irelia, major by itself, extreme once she gets botrk, doesn't have much damage and you can easily dodge her E with your own E, if you feel like you need it, go oblivion orb, you deal a lot of damage to her, just remember to dodge her E.
Conq build works well.
Good ult, deals decent damage and works well for chasing.
Jax
Not that hard of a matchup, calculate his cooldowns, dont waste E until he jumps at you with his E, when his E is about to go off, you throw E2 at him and drop your combo.
His ult is good damage, though it bugs your auto attacks.
Jayce
This champs has it all, range, armor and mr, burst damage, mana recovery, if he has phase rush its overkill, if you find yourself in this lane, try short trades, at early is your best shot to kill him, throw your E2 when he E's you, hard to get it right, but its what works best.
His ult is one of the worst in the game
K'Sante
The champ's been overly nerf to the point of being ashes of his old self, conqueror build works against this man, be careful at level 6 as he still has enough damage to kill you if you're not careful enough.
Usually when you W at him, AA, Q him, he'll use W, that's where you E away, and when he dashes with his W you E2.
His ult is situational, works if you get to throw someone else under tower.
Kayle
Kayle's early game is one of the weakest, you can take advantage of that and go Electrocute build, and abuse her in the early game, just engage her with E and you'll be good to go, the problem comes when she gets to snowball.
Her ult is pretty good, when fighting her, always ult after she ults, so you get to dmg her with your ult.
Kennen
The champ is obnoxious, if you get to bait his E, you should be able to engage to him, you deal more damage and heal more than him, try getting short trades, you can go Electrocute against him.
His ult is one of the best in the game for teamfights.
Kled
Really strong early game and mid-game, a lot of damage from who knows where, usually they'll try to engage you with E along his Q, thankfully it's reasonably easy to dodge with your E, once he misses his Q, trade with him, and repeat the process until he's low on HP.
His ult is good for roaming, but nothing else.
Malphite
Easiest matchup for Sylas, if he has comet, E when he Qs you, to avoid getting hit by the comet, always trade with him, you'll win every single time, not much to say that hasn't been said as of now.
His ult is one of the best for Sylas, good for 1v1, good for teamfight.
Mordekaiser
Here's a tricky one, the matchup is usually easy, but if the morde's good and builds oblivion orb, it becomes a skill matchup, in early dodge his Q with your E, and trade with him, short trades.
Good ult, REMEMBER TO ALWAYS ULT AFTER HE ULTS YOU, that way you recover some stats.
Nasus
Pretty easy matchup, dont let him close to the wave, they'll always greed for minions, so take advantage of that and trade with him when he gets too close, he'll never do enough damage for him to kill you, and you'll outheal him in everything.
His ult is good mainly because it does AOE ap damage and gives you armor and mr.
Olaf
The champ's stupid, nothing you can do about that, do short trades, Q, AA, W, AA, and E away, keep it like that until the jungler pities you.
His ult is meh, good for chasing, but more of a last resort.
Ornn
Almost every tank matchup is easy, you outheal them, try fighting at level 4-5, save your E to dodge his W.
His ult is also a very good one, not for the dmg, but for the teamfight potential.
Poppy
This is the reason why not every tank matchup is easy, this mongrel has a lot of damage, and is really tanky, the problem arises because of her W, you have to be careful or she'll negate every damage you have with it, as Sylas has 3 dashes, if you want to fight her, save your E until her W wears off, if you W close to her, it won't count as a dash and it'll land.
Her ult is pretty bad, situational at best.
Renekton
Rougher matchup if Renek has PTA, take bone plating, and as always, start engages at levels 4-5, he will not have enough burst in those levesl to kill you outright.
His ult is decent, usually, Renek's ult gives him Rage, but for Sylas, it gives you Mana over time, so it works for that.
Rengar
Annoying matchup, it heals a lot, and deals a lot of damage, always try to have the wave in front of your tower so that you can farm, if you get advantage, always push the lane so he doesn't have any bushes.
Nothing more than that, if he jumps at you, W him, Q him, and jump away with E, dont stand close to bushes.
Riven
Never fight her at level 1, prefer 3-4-5 level trades, if she doesn't have ignite the threat it poses is lower, try to E away from her Q3 and engage as she's in the middle of the animation, you can cancel her Q3, take boneplating, as she'll always try to trade at level 1.
Her ult is pretty meh, it works to get passive stacks and execute.
Rumble
One of his hardest matchups, put 3 points in Q, its hard because the champ is overtuned in every aspect, you have chance of killing him at early levels, take second wind, and if you'd like, dorans shield, pretty uninteractive laning phase.
His ult is good for cornering people or separating people in a teamfight,
Sett
Sett has pretty telegraphed abilities, which make it easiier to fight him, take boneplating and save your E for his W, strong early so don't fight him until level 4-5, which your W damage spikes.
His ult is pretty good for starting fights or for running away, once you've got a good grasp of his trading patterns this matchups becomes pretty easy.
Shen
Typical tank matchup, with the exception that it has a pretty good ult for helping the botlane, be careful with his level 2 because he deals a lot of damage there and usually they take ignite.
Very good ult.
Singed
Uninteractive lane, he'll usually proxy you, just farm away and trade with him when you can, nothing more to say, be careful when you're close to his tower, if you E2 at the same time he E's you, he won't be able to pull you over.
Ult is pretty statchecky, good if you want more stats.
Sion
Tank matchup, dodge his Qs and you'll be fine, usually you'll want to go Conq build, if not you'll run out of mana.
Good ult for roaming, but not for anything else.
Skarner
Now this one's a little tricky, you'll be able to win against him with the usual conq build, but when he gets a few mr items he'll literally be kinda unkillable, besides his Q deals tons of damage, be careful to dodge his Q, and you can stop his E with your own E.
His ult is decent.
Swain
You deal much more damage to him than he does to you, and have much more sticking potential, besides, his ult is one of the best for Sylas, and my personal favorite.
Tahm Kench
Tank matchup, usually go conq, he's in this threat level because his ult has insanely low cooldown, one of the lowest i've seen, every time you have ult up again, you'll be able to steal it.
Teemo
Even threat level because the champ's annoying, but usually you'll deal much more damage than him, unless he spaces you well, go dorans shield and second wind, you'll need it.
Trundle
Save your E until he E's you, so you can dodge the pillar, usually you'll be fine, always remember to ult him AFTER he ults you, so you get the uppper hand, you should deal more damage than him in short trades.
Tryndamere
Annoying matchup, he'll always stick to the side lanes, though you'll be able to burst him more quickly, remember to always use your ult AFTER he uses his, that way, you'll be able to kill him faster.
Udyr
He heals a lot, but you have access to one of the best ults on the game, low cooldown, high damage for AP builders, unless you **** up very hard, he should never be able to win.
Urgot
Pretty minor threat, go 3 points in Q, always save your E for when he E's at you, and you'll be good to go, you should do more damage than him and also heal more.
Vayne
ranged matchup, go 3 points in Q, and lower her health bar with short trades, go dorans shield and second wind.
Vladimir
You can go 3 points in Q or usual W max build, his ult is pretty good for fighting him, consider building a oblivion orb, doesn't matter if you sell it later in the game.
be careful, he can cancel your W with his W.
Volibear
When he Q runs at you, try to always E away when he's casting the stun on you, that way you go out of the circle of his E, do short trades, when he W you, go away until the mark is almost away.
be careful on early, has really high damage.
Good ult, good damage, and nulifies turrets.
Warwick
He outheals you, but that's fine, keep it at short trades, you deal more damage than him.
Other than that, pretty uninteractive lane.
Yasuo
Pretty fun matchup, although if the Yasuo knows how to play him, it'll be hell, you can dodge his E+Q3 if you time it good enough with your E, and also, you can E2 at him, steal his ult, and in the middle of the jouney you can press R again to Yasuo ult him.
your best bet is to kill him when he has low AA.
Yone
Easier than Yasuo's matchup, normal trades, and it's easy to dodge his Q, they're pretty telegraphed once you learn their trade pattern.
His ult is pretty good.
Yorick
This champ is pretty meh, just dodge his E and then you'll be able to kill him, his maiden makes trading more difficult.
The champ itself is not too difficult, you just have to play around the enemy cooldownds, and if you die 2-3 times, you're out of the game, however, thanks to item changes, the champ is now more playable in the toplane, there isn't much to say about the playstyle, and there aren't many combos.
HOW TO PLAY
As I said, most of the time you want to keep short trades, because Sylas's cooldownds are pretty long in the early game, there are matchups where it's easier to trade at levels 1-3, like Gangplank or Kayle, but most of them you should trade at level 4-5.
Sylas has the potential to carry games, but this is greatly determined by how many good ults you have, unless you're really fed, there are many interactions with ults, and I'll post them as I remember them
COMBOS
You can E2+W at the same time, and its animation will play at the same time.
Also, if you E2 at someone, you can use your R as you're flying at them, you can also do this to guarantee a hit of a stolen R, for example, if you have Irelia's R, you can E2 at someone and through the journey, you can hit Irelia's R, being a sure hit, this applies for many ults
ITEMS.
ROCKETBELT BUILD: It's the most usual item, because it gives almost everything Sylas wants, except mana, it's the most used by me too, unless they have a team that has access to a lot of MR items, like two tanks in top and jg, the dash itself is nice for repositioning in case you're near the wave, or even clear it if the minions are low enough, clearing the way to hit your E2.
The build works pretty well if there's only one tank, and it works when you think you won't have mana issues or run out of mana in long trades, mana issues can be softly fixed by going mana runes, but it's not the same as the Liandrys build.
Champs that this build works against are ranged champions, Gangplank, Riven, Gwen, champs that usually don't buy mr or don't stack hp as much.
LIANDRYS BUILD: As I said before, usually I build this if I feel my damage won't be enough against my laner, or if there's more than 1 tank-ish champ on the enemy team, for example, Chogath, Dr Mundo, and it comes along with Sylas's second problem, running out of mana mid fight.
Black-fire torch and Liandrys synergize very well, and BFT's passive of 4% ap works wonders alongside Conqueror, usually with this build you want to go ionians and stack AH like that, you can get up to 70 AH with full build.
Some times it'll be complicated, because there are champs like Renek who sometimes buy Eclipse as first item, and other times they build Black Cleaver or tankier items, so it's ideal to figure out what the enemy laner is buying too.
