You may use any image as long as it relates to an 8-bit video game. There must be some 8-bit artwork on there.

Lugi, you got to make the rules clear. They cannot be ambiguous in any way.
That means you can use picture that is not 8-bits for the NES game character and then use a separate 8-bit image for the background that is not related to the game.

You need to use some 8 bit in your pic from an 8-bit NES game. I suggest you search for sprites.
